How do you think the meeting will go today, will it go smoothly over a cup of coffee and a bun? I am not sure but I think that merkel will be having the upper hand

She won't have any of his political poker play. It most likely is a reality check for Boris.

I assume that Merkel will repeat that the deal negotiated over 2.5 years, including Johnson's time in cabinet with May, where it was concluded, produced a comprehensive agreement that is a whole and cannot be taken apart, removing bit of it.

He's pretending to be in talks but is doing nothing of the sort.

If he's wanted to renogiate, he would need to agree an extension or cancel, by revoking Article 50, to then start afresh with a full 2 years.

This is so important to all of our futures that it should not be played with. He's there purely for himself , he wants to improve his image to some dimwits, to vote in a general election in the near future.

Poor Merkel having to suffer such an incompetent fool.

I expect at some point BoJo will tell her to "Oh fuck off! We won the war!" when he finds he can't bully or bamboozle her, and that will be the end of the meeting.

"How do you think the meeting will go today, will it go smoothly over a cup of coffee and a bun? I am not sure but I think that merkel will be having the upper hand "

Boris will declare that he holds all the cards and will convince Merkel that she must inform the EU 27 immediately that they need us more than we do and give us everything we want

Mrs Merkel will say exactly the same to Mr Johnson today as Mr Macron says to Mr Johnson tomorrow. And Mr Tusk on Friday.

They are not about to throw Ireland under the bus.

Boris and all those who support him show a truly staggering level of denial; to the point where they blame the EU for their failings.

It's an expected deflection activity from anyone who's had their own way and never been told no for most of their lives. They're unable to cope with it when it happens.

He shouldn't expect to be taken seriously by her (but he will) on a new deal, since she knows he and his government are actually spending money on preparing for no deal.

He will say that the stuff on the leaked report is all true and that if they don't give us a bucket to help us bail our canoe out with they will soon be joining us. We'll go and buy our own bucket with the 39 Billion quid we'll save.

I think that is the negotiating stance he will take. Doomed to failure though. My guess is he will claim that her tried to negotiate.

The 39 billion we owe is to cover the commitments we signed up for, nothing to do with any deals that might be made.

No doubt there will be deals between the EU and the uk just not free ones.

Remember tariffs work both ways so if a country puts a tariff on something then there will be a tariff added to stuff going out of the uk.

I’m all for proper borders goods can be expressed according to what they are, there have always been spot checks in goods and people even on the Irish border

At the moment he's blaming MPs - who are trying to block a no-deal - for jeopardizing his negotiation position with the EU. Eventually he'll blame the EU when all his 'well-thought-out' tatics fail.

Is the divorce bill even something he is talking about.

It seems to be, tweak the backstop, and we are good to go.

Which assumes it is just the backstop which is preventing MP's from voting yes.

And his solution seems to be 1) commit to finding alternative arrangements and 2) in recognising alternative arrangements may not be fully in place, agree what commitments may help.

Which I struggle to see is that much different from the current backstop.

A lancaster would be more appropriate.

She will ask if he has anything to add to his 4 page letter that contained no alternative to the Backstop. He will say no that he is only there to blame the EU for a no deal, she will say ok, well good luck, and they will part ways.

Mrs Merkel: If you want a different agreement, come up with an alternative.

Mr Johnson: We will in the next 30 days.

The EU leaders will offer tantalising words a néw set of terms could be on offer...

Boris then has to decide whether he will explore...

And what happens if come October 31st itv feels close but not quite there...

Will he no deal just to keep his word... Even tho lot better solution is close... Or will he swallow his pride...

The extremist wing of the Conservative Party says it will vote down ANY agreement with the EU. Johnson is trapped in the same bond as Mrs May.
