this bojo govt are trying to spend money like its out of fashion... trying to set up for a snap general election... but beware the "jedi mind tricks" they are trying to pull in their big spending announcement....
a) the police....
the Claim: 20,000 more police within the next 3 yrs...
the fact: 20,000 policemen are due to retire in the next 3 yrs......
b) the NHS.....
The Claim: £1.85bn extra.....
the Fact:... not exactly the 350m per week promised on the side of the bus
plus £1 bil of that is already announced money.....
plus when asked where the other 850 mil is coming from they said "we don't know"
c) Prisons..........
The Claim: 10,000 more spaces will be available
the Fact: same claim made in 2015 by Gove... and 2016 by liz truss... and in the 2017 tory manifesto......
only 3,000 extra spaces have been built so far.....
so when this general election comes around... just beware of the "money tree shaking" that happens...... |

No mind trick a blind man can see there is going to be an election as soon as we are out on the 31st oct.Labour and the lib/dems can see it too but dont have anything to counter it with.Boris will have a bigger majority once the brexit party are made redundant. |

It didn't say 'could fund the NHS'. It said 'let's fund our nhs instead'. It was a slogan used by the official Leave campaign to sell the idea that leaving the EU could be beneficial to the NHS.
To argue that it was merely a suggestion with no obligation to follow up on it is pretty weak. |

I'd love to see the detail behind their proposals...
Let's stop more people (partly to get more arrests)... Let's get more convictions.... And when we convict keep them in for longer...
So that should be a chunk more people in prison at any one time.
Yet 10,000 places just about gets prisons back to being just safely overcrowded (I think)
So I fear we will make a bad position worse as everything is being done piecemeal.

EY also flagging up something else.
In the event of No Deal, the UK becomes a "third country".
That means migration from the UK to any EU27 country becomes a national competence, not an EU one.
Each country sets it's own rules, with it's own interpretation.
The default is no return with 180 days after a visit of up to 90 days.
The CBI sees this as a serious problem.
At the moment, an engineer in the UK can travel to Italy as often as they want to fix an engine, without any need for work permits or restriction on return.
Free movement ends on Oct 31 and business will have to navigate work permits on a country by country basis.
The CBI warns this will be a problem on day 1.
"If it becomes clear that no deal is to be a permanent state, businesses which rely on sending their staff to the EU - particularly service exporters and international companies with their European headquarters in the UK - will consider relocating operations, activity and jobs to the EU."
Taking back control of your border works both ways. |

Warning from EY in today's FT that business is not prepared for staff being turned away at borders from Nov 1 because they do not have the right paperwork for that country.
"As of November 1, assuming a No Deal exit, businesses will have to navigate red lines across each of the EU27. This is a sea change for UK business used to the flexibility that has come with free movement," said EY.

It seems to me there are still people clinging to the idea you can keep the benefits of being in the single market without being in the EU.
The single market being made of four indivisible freedoms.
As of Nov 1, and in the absence of the Withdrawal Agreement, the UK will be treated the same as any other third country with no preferential arrangement.
That might be a rude awakening for some.

Johnson's record is one of trying to be all things to all people, throwing promises about like confetti.
And as soon as someone asks what happened to this promise or that promise, he'll throw out some more to distract you.
As a strategy, it works in the short-term. But eventually enough people begin to realise how vacuous a character he actually is. |
