Regardless which one of the overpaid twats got voted in you would still have ended up with a prime minister that doesn't give a shit about you or what they can do for you.

At least with Boris he will go about it with charisma - not much of a consolation but its all I'm hanging on to with regards to the situation.

Way over Yonder, that's where I'm bound

He will do what he has always done: someone else will do the work. He will front it, say stupid things that make people laugh and they will therefore think he's great.

I don't trust him but I know he can be charming and affable. I speak from personal experience.

I'm more concerned about who his paymasters are and what he will agree to keep them onside. Again, experience.

The problem is that we have no credible opposition

I mean, it's like they're not even trying

There just isn't a national passion for socialism right now

We are a nation that is increasingly inward looking, selfish, greedy and comfortable on our fat surpluses

It won't last

I just hope by the time the cracks widen, that the opposition parties have got their acts together

As for making Britain 'Great' again, lovely (if somewhat romantic) concept, poorly executed

The vast majority of that party have, it really wouldn't have made any difference whatsoever who ended up as the current pm. Which is exactly my point. This is too much P forum now, but, we haven't left yet. Ask the leave voting pensioners in Europe complaining that their money isn't stretching now that the exchange rates are what they are if they think it's all rosy? Mind you, a lot of what I've been reading suggests they blame the EU and not our actions.

And that is what we will be left with. It's not the Imperial Brits' fault. It's everyone else not doing what we want.

Both sides have their good points, both sides talk an awful lot of shit too. And both sides have so much hate (talking about far far left/right) that they lose any respect their arguments had in the first place.

I'd love it if he made a success of Brexit and the UK became more prosperous. People would likely still moan, even walking around with more money in their pockets!

It’s just not very likely though is it? Seeing as pretty much every economic forecast suggests the exact opposite.

Brexit has been a lot like turkeys voting for Christmas.

We were told that the country would fall into deep recession if the country voted to leave. Hasn't happened. "

I don’t know if you’ve noticed, but we haven’t actually left yet.

But already there is a lot of uncertainty, and economic predictions agree that we’ll be worse off, not better off.

Just because it might not be as bad as any worst case scenario is a moot point if it is still likely to be considerably worse for the economy than staying.

This is very true. The thing is no one side is better than the other when it comes to arguing. Yes there are some very level headed people on both sides, but the general masses of both sides turn ugly as soon as their own views and beliefs are challenged.

A lot of people are agnostic and will vote where there is a popular message with their peers.

The right has been better (much) at harnessing press and media. Guess which 'side' the press and media generally support? Repetition is a powerful tool, put a ribbon on it and it's made pretty. Ask the marketing people.

"The problem is that we have no credible opposition

I mean, it's like they're not even trying

There just isn't a national passion for socialism right now

We are a nation that is increasingly inward looking, selfish, greedy and comfortable on our fat surpluses

It won't last

I just hope by the time the cracks widen, that the opposition parties have got their acts together

As for making Britain 'Great' again, lovely (if somewhat romantic) concept, poorly executed"

The irony of socialism is socialists want everyone to be equal, but to only be equal as they are. They want wealth from the top 10% shared out to their level but when you point out that they are in the richest 10% in global terms they are not so keen to share.

I'm with this guy.

While Boris craves fame above all else, he doesn't want to be famous for being the only PM to last less than a week.

The only possible way for Boris to avoid an immediate vote of no confidence, massive embarassment from mass resignations, and to deliver brexit would be to go for the very softest Brexit available.

Basically EAA membership only rebranded to call it something else ...... because PR

The tiny hardcore of far right nutters who got him in will either be too embarassed with themselves to call him out on it - or will be easily gulled into thinking that was what they wanted all along - or will find out that they don't wield nearly enough power as they thought they did.

Boris delivers a super soft damage limitation brexit

rational brexiters are happy with the compromise

rational remainers are happy with the compromise

nutjobs are fucked in the arse

The Express and the Mail continue to be serial bedwetters for a couple of weeks then STFU because Tory government

Nah. Not unless you're one of those snowflakes that thinks milkshaking fascists is the worst thing in the world. Lefties aren't the ones committing terror attacks or working to deny women bodily autonomy in the US or stirring up xenophobia.

No he's racist because he describes black people as 'piccaninnies' with 'watermelon smiles'

He's homophobic for saying things like 'tank-topped bumboys'

And he's a proven liar who has been sacked from multiple positions for lying and fabricating stories...

Not exactly a great choice of leader really...

and to top it off we have now lost the right to say the Americans are dumber...

And while squabbling over who says more mean things to the other we have children in detention centres and attacks on women's rights in America, a global refugee crisis as a result of global superpowers funding either side of a war in order to run off with the oil while everyone is fighting, hungry children in schools that can't afford books and pencils, disabled people starving to death after being found fit for work and then not being able to afford to eat. And to top it all off we are destroying the planet to the point we will likely finish ourselves off soon anyway so I guess none of it really matters that much.

“They voted for Anthony Charles Lynton Blair to serve as their leader. They were at no stage invited to vote on whether Gordon Brown should be PM… They voted for Tony, and yet they now get Gordon, and a transition about as democratically proper as the transition from Claudius to Nero. It is a scandal. Why are we all conniving in this stitch-up? This is nothing less than a palace coup… with North Korean servility, the Labour Party has handed power over to the brooding Scottish power-maniac.”

Exactly! And the majority of the time, the arguments are not even over big things like you have said. If it ever is, it quickly spirals out of control to just being petty name calling.

The fact that the right have to throw around things like snowflake (regardless of how insulting it is or is not) is proof enough that it is both sides can't go without lowering the tone.

If both sides did away with the arguing and actually discussed things, shit would get done (pipe dream I know, but still!).

What I didn’t realise until I came into the fab forums is how left wing the vocal minority are on here.

I’ve always said that my right wing leaning is the exception on here. I worked bloody hard from when I left school in 1977, and did well enough to own my first home at 21 despite being married with a son at 17. And it was the tories that made it possible.

I am now happily retired, and comfortable. On my third marriage now and a father to a total of five kids, and a grandad to five more. Never claimed a penny, and paid a shedload of child support and tax but don’t mind at all.

I am delighted to see Boris in charge, a bright, intelligent man who is a breath of fresh air. Someone who believes in Britain, and a man who truly wants to put the Great back into this wonderful country of ours.

What so many of you seem to forget is that over half of the country voted to leave the EU. He’s probably the only politician who will deliver that.

I wish him well

Hi. A great post. It is probably inevitable that the majority of posters on here are left wing. No rational person is going to spend endless time posting on here to a very small audience . Those on the right are probably too busy working and taking responsibility for their families to have too much time to post in here .

Left wing vocal minorities? Right wing exceptions? None of that is making any logical sense to me. Why are you surprised that a lot of people anywhere are left wing? Or even right wing? What is the surprise? And what's it got to do with your or anyone's success stories?

People can be successful under right wing and left wing governments. In general if you are of the 'right' mind you can make it quicker and higher under right wing governments, but far more people can make it under left wing ones, they have better public services and their markets don't crash as much. But it's more evenly spread.

There was nothing to compare Thatcherism to, as most of the decade was between crashes. One killed Labour, the other killed her. Then we suffered Major and Blair. I recently spend over 10 years of my life looking after my mother though, each and every single day, because we never got back the nursing home skills Thatcher took away - and nobody else could do it. The Social Services watched me do it 24/365 for 9 straight years - there was nothing else in my place. I added up the hours once. No society, Thatcher said. Every straight couple for themselves. It may have suited you mate, but it didn't and doesn't suit everyone. And look where we are now. Selfishness everywhere we look. The 1% of the Boris's of the world (and stashing foreign fortunes is all he could ever do) owning half the world's wealth. She certainly had the legacy, I can't deny that.

Yeah, and on my third marriage now? It sounds like a hobby. No wonder he doesn't mind paying taxes - the tax payer's been paying for his, as indeed we should. Thatcher wanted 2.5 kids and lifelong fidelity though - she would not be amused at all. Nor by his communing with homosexuals.

I couldn't care less, I just don't understand why left wing people are somehow to blame for - what - his happiness? I don't get it. And I'm left wing and voted Leave too. I don't get that part either. I think some people just like to flex their political superiority, have a boast and have a moan - all at the same time.

That was whole point of the market liberalisation of the Thatcher years which no one has challenged since.

You would pay less tax - financial markets would be deregulated to make it easier to accumulate assets - but in return, the responsibility would be passed from the state to the individual to provide for themselves in times of hardship.

This is what that generation voted for.

You begin about the 'vocal minority', but it's really clear that the most vocal people here are right wing, and that's why I've been on it here. You are just noticing people you disagree with, that's all. But left-wing people react to things (even if reactionary), it's ever been the way. I found this place horribly right wing when I first saw it.

You brought up your 'on your' marriages, not me. I don't have kids, I lost out that way, and so on balance I pay for those who are raising them. It's fine - I don't grumble either. But I'm also out of work at the moment, but don't you dare lord it over me and others on that. Like most later-age Tories, you've just had a luckier life, that's all. But of course you've worked hard, 'damned hard'. But who doesn't. It's just so boastful and condescending. You have no idea.

Every leader, however awful, often have something to commend them. For example Adolf not only brought forward quite enlightened animal rights laws but even more commendable Adolf was the person who actually killed Hitler, and that was probably the best thing he ever did for his country, the world and all mankind.

I'd love it if he made a success of BREXIT and love it even more if the UK became more prosperous either with or without BREXIT. I just don't believe it's possible to achieve the latter if you do the former.

"WOW, a lot of Johnson apologists, I guess you're Trump apologists as well, and while you're at it give a shout out for Adolf, at least he looked after his dogs...

Every leader, however awful, often have something to commend them. For example Adolf not only brought forward quite enlightened animal rights laws but even more commendable Adolf was the person who actually killed Hitler, and that was probably the best thing he ever did for his country, the world and all mankind.

"

.

could we also stretch it and say hitler initially gave Germany hope something this country doesn't have at the moment, without a strong leader

"What I didn’t realise until I came into the fab forums is how left wing the vocal minority are on here.

I’ve always said that my right wing leaning is the exception on here.

This. I own my own business so a conservative government would probably suit me financially but I've seen how a conservative government has destroyed the schools in my area and also how the failing social care system failed my nan who had dementia in her last days.

"Is everyone on fab left wing?

Nope there's some far right types about.. "

And quite a few either side of the centre but now days, to the left if you're not a Corbynista you're a Red Tory, fascist or part of the Liberal Elite, and to the right if you're not a BREXITER you're loony left, a traitor or part of the Liberal Elite. I've been called all the above and worse.

"What's the worst that could happen? "

We'll find that out when he gives top cabinet posts to intellectual lightweights and proto-fascists like Patel, McVey and Raab.

Boris likes other people to do the hard work for him. It allows him to avoid blame.

Things are going to get really bad.
