In an upcoming Panorama programme, several EU figures are going to give their take on the Brexit process so far.

One interesting thing to come out, is the offer from Martin Selmayr (Juncker's deputy) to David Liddington, that Brexit be put on hold for 5 years, so that the UK, France and Germany can work out a new deal to keep the UK in.

You obviously have no idea how the French think en mass but you really want them to think like you. So much so you’re willing to make things up in an attempt to make your viewpoint seem plausible. . Truth is...the French are overwhelmingly pro eu.

You’ve been divided, conquered and manipulated into thinking that the French lorry drivers striking effecting our shores is anti EU. If they were striking it was for them and the collateral damage on our shores is not their issue. In fact the French have a track record and spine for that sort of that thing...and stand up for themselves a bit better than most. Having worked in France, have family in France in the north and south, having met many 1000s of French people over 40 years or so I can assure you they are overwhelmingl Pro EU.

The perspective from the EU is that the UK triggered Brexit, and wants to leave the EU.

The UK must honour previous promises and signed agreements like the good friday agreement.

The UK is the one that decides what it wants to do, presents anything at all it wants to the EU.

The EU has accepted several "agreements" and each one has been then refused by the UK after presenting it.

The UK can now uphold its integrity or go a no deal. Its up to the UK.

The EU is preparing for several possibilities right now, one of them is the UK coming back to the EU, but also they are preparing for the destruction of the good friday agreement, and have put in place a mechanisim for the EU and the US to recognise the north as part of the Republic as soon as that happens. They are also preparing for a northern Ireland temporarily aligned with EU rules, and preparing for a mid sea check point between UK and Ireland.

There is still a feeling in some EU countries that the UK will reverse brexit, there are a few countries that feel the process should be allowed take much longer and these scenarios can not be discarded as it will be the UK that decides so the EU has to take all these scenarios into account and do initial planning for them.

Most of the EU thinks there is going to be a no deal, and its about 50/50 for the GFA being torn up by the UK now they have to stand up and do their part of it.

Yes, leaving the EU has always been in the control of the UK.

Except its cheerleaders continually promise things that are not in the UK's control and never have been - what the EU and the rest of the world will do for us once the UK does leave.

I just wish they would set out what THEY intend to do improve the UK, instead of continually setting out what others are going to do for them.

Every time they do it leaves egg on their faces.

Where was the plan in 2016?

There wasn't one.

Where is the plan in 2019?

There isn't one.

Just rhetoric.

This is from the same BBC programme:

"I was very much under the view that there would be somewhere in No 10 a very small, very secret group, putting together an almighty chart, a big plan of how we were going to negotiate and crucially what our overall objectives were. So, the prime minister - rather like a Bond villain - would be sitting with her white cat on her lap with this big plan behind her. I'd love to say that that room existed. I never found it."

- Lord Bridges, Brexit Minister, 2016-17

After three years, the Brexit brigade still cannot agree what it is even supposed to look like.

So now we are down to the desperate stuff - just leave and to hell with the consequences.

I'm being polite describing it as incompetence.

Van Der Leyen has laid out her stall :

“ A common consolidated corporate tax base would provide businesses with a single rulebook to compute their corporate tax base in the European Union. This is a longstanding project of the European Parliament and I will fight to make it a reality.”

"I will make use of the clauses in the Treaties that allow proposals on taxation to be adopted by co-decision and decided by qualified majority voting in the Council."

This could be very bad economically for Ireland... however in order for the system to change to qualified majority they would have to unanimously vote for it

Unless of course they have a shot at changing it in a similar manner to the way they changed away from the Spitzenkandidaten system and instead had 3 days of closed door meetings to decide she would be the candidate on the ballot

the taxation thing is actually not that far away from what the UK actually wants to do... which is set up an international framework to stop multinational companies from shifting around sales in one country to money in others to get round paying taxes.....

so for example if amazon were to sell something in the uk, it would be taxed in the uk...

but like most things you need other countries to have the same rules... which is where the EU are going to be able to set up a multi-national framework for 27 countries!!!!

The record of the EU27 on Brexit these last three years is one of unity and consistency.

They do not want the UK to leave but recognise it is a sovereign decision of the UK.

That has been repeated over and over again by all 27.

The only union that is divided and consumed by rancour is the union of the British isles.

It cannot even agree amongst itself what it wants to do, so any negotiation with a third party is doomed to fail, as Mrs May discovered.

Saw some of it and it seemed very clear just how inept the UK conservatives have been, whilst the EU members have consolidated their strengths in effective response to a fully predicted act of self-harm by the UK, following voting puppets, who had their strings pulled by unbelievably wealthy overlords, in what has already become the outdated reflection of a bygone era's public mood. Gullibility had a short shelf, although some public Pinocchios were as equally inept as their duplicitous puppet masters are morally bankrupt.

Well said. We do not need a deal paying the EU billion after billion if we can aford to pay them that we can prosper on our own. After all a trade deal is not needed to trade with the EU. And what Mrs May lied about was not a trade deal it was a list of EU demands they want placed in UK law before they tell us what there trade demands will be. At which point we will have no right to walk away. We will be like good fabers bend over and take it up the ass lol.
