Yes great achievement, perhaps Mr Armstrong kept a personal record of the technology used, as NASA appear to have lost it somewhere!

Something about radiation belts?

Looking forward to those 2025 missions.

It's pretty amazing what can be achieved when so much resource is directed towards it. Over 4% of GDP in some years.

As achievements go, it's pretty wow.

Imagine what could be accomplished now with that focus.

"If they could use hand-knitted computer code to make a frictionless re-entry to Earth's atmosphere in 1969, we can solve the problem of frictionless trade at the Northern Irish border."

- Boris Johnson in today's Telegraph

Where is it, then?

Where is it, then?"

It was an incredible technological solution to a simple (to articykate) problem and one which I suspect many experts thought was achievable (a lot of the technology was there given both the US and Russia had done manned space flights)

Even then it took a huge amount of time (eight years) and money (usd 600 bn) and effort.

And while it was achieved I'd be willing to bet they wouldn't have sent something up on Dec 31st 1969 if the tech wasn't ready. Just because of a loose political statement.

So he's changed his mind on opposing the backstop.

A sensible move but the ERG, the Mail and The Express are going to wet the bed over it

But if we can't do this in 100 days then I'm happy to crash and burn on re-entry..

Let's also not forget that if it hadn't been for a bunch of very clever Germans, the moon landings would never have happened
