"I want to dedicate this post to the natives as it is americas independence day, we should never forget "
There's increasing archaeological evidence that the current "native" Americans (Clovis people) aren't actually native to the Americas but emigrated from much further north and massacred the original "native" tribes. This is believed to have been around 15000 years ago, which, considering the age of hominids, isn't very long. |

"I always wounder with these kinds of that land belongs to... sorts of narrative as to how far we're ment to go back? "
Perhaps it's because the American Indians had no concept of ownership of the land that they were pushed around so much by the European settlers..... |

Apart from the inconvenient fact that they did have a concept but they lacked muskets etc |

That's not really the case - tribal differences meant that various prime hunting grounds were jealously and violently guarded by the local predominant tribe. Like every other race of humans, they were continuously massacring those who were different to them. |

It doesn't really belong to anybody really. As a species we seem to think that the planet is up for grabs, that it and all of its non-human inhabitants are ours for exploitation. Agent Smith wasnt wrong when he called us a virus. |

Agreed, it was not difficult for the white men to divide in order to conquer.
As for whether we in the UK should celebrate American Independence, I would say that would be the UK celebrating our own mismanagement of the colony that could have been the jewel in the Crown. |

My point was more in the 1000s of years of human's having war, conquest, changing boarders/lands by force, rising/falling empires and the resulting mixing of ethnicities and cultures do we draw the line when it comes to giving descendants of those people a hard time for their historical legacy?
Also I'm not sure that's entirely the case. The Nations that existed in the North American continent definatly were not shy to go to war over such things as resources and expansion (even if they didn't have a complex system of ownership paperwork and clearly defined boarder). I'm not convinced (despite the romanticism around Native American Culture) they were inherently less capable of evil. They were deffinatly capable of a massacre or two. |

That’s true but we are all guilty |

Yep and we are all beneficiaries. However hard up we think we are on this island we all still share in the spoils of the human game of winners and losers just by being born here. If I'm honest I quite enjoy the trappings of the developed world, especially after seeing the poverty, violence and filth of so much of the world in my time first hand. More in terms of the freedoms, health and lack of fear from violence than material trapping. But this lovely life was made off the back of the world's wealth. And I'm pretty sure if our ancestors hadn't been so successful others would have and maybe we'd be the abused humans that others wealth and health was built on (Not a justification, to the world as I see it).
Anyway I think parasite is a more accurate description for humans than virus. |
