Tories say No Deal exit will rob Treasury of £90 billion

Said today by Chancellor Hammond in response to a John McDonnell question.

Mr McDonnell asked Mr Hammond if he would join Labour and oppose any EU exit without an agreement.

"I do agree with him, it would be wrong for a British government to pursue no deal as a policy and I believe it will be for the House of Commons, of which I will continue proudly to be a member, to ensure that doesn't happen."

He went further.

"But let me go further - the government's analysis suggests that in a disruptive no-deal exit there will be a hit to the Exchequer of about £90bn. That will also have to be factored in to future spending and tax decisions."

A couple of years' interest payments on all the money borrowed by Hammond and his predecessor Osborne.

Magic money tree, anyone?

A drop in the ocean it seems to corbyn and mc donnell nationalization plan for the energy and water.according to a research group that could cost £176 billion up to £306 billion if it went as far as comrade corbyn wants.

I'm sure this £90 billion would be just a small part of the overall UK losses, including just some aspects and for a very short period.

There should be a special tax code for those wishing to support an exit and no deal, so that they help offset the damages.

Yes, it is just the calculation of the revenue lost by the Treasury.

In the plus column, lower or zero payments to EU and some taxes collected on the 15 per cent of imported goods subject to tariffs.

In the minus column, lower receipts from economic activity, e.g. income tax, NI, corporation tax.

Nett: minus £90 billion.

How about a special tax code for remainers who have stifled the economy and investment by causing all the uncertainty about leaving over the last 3 years.Which will happen by the way.

How about Tories and brexiteers being made to pay for any losses caused to remainers by brexit?

I am realistic enough to know that regardless of how well or (as I believe) badly brexit turns out I will be one of those who will be made to pay. I only hope that enough of the heard that believed the lies of BoJo, Lord Snooty and merchant wanker Farage will wake up and shake off their yokes when they work out that they will also pay for brexit while the above mentioned and their mate 'spaff' the profits they make from our misery up the wall!

If you think the Corbyn scare stories will convince former Tory Remainers to switch back your living in cloud cuckoo land. Corbyn may or may not do some harm but if he goes too far at least we can vote him out and get back on track. The Tory 'no deal' BREXIT strategy, which has no democratic mandate at all, will damage the UK forever, and they don't even want to put it to Parliament never mind the people who's will they claim to be acting on. Currently the Tory Party and all 'no deal' Leavers represent no-one except themselves.

Will you be so condescending telling everyone to man up if we find ourselves in a worst possible outcome situation and the shops are running out of food and you too find yourself on the receiving end of this piece of Tory madness? Or will you be turtled up with the lights out and curtains closed hoping that the mobs pass you bye?

"Shops running out of food????? get a grip this brexit hysteria makes me laugh."

I said WORST POSSIBLE OUTCOME...

Maybe you have not noticed but every sensible organisation is making plans for just that sort of outcome and only an idiot fails to prepare for the worst and only the most fanatical of fanatics would suggest that preparing for the worst is not prudent. And any that claims that making preparations for the worst possible outcome is hysterical is either a total idiot or someone who would sacrifice lives for ideology. Which are you?

The House of Lords voted 245-99 yesterday to set up a joint parliamentary committee of MPs and peers to produce a report on a No Deal Brexit by September.

Good move - they want to strip away the rhetoric and find the facts.

The proposal now goes to the Commons. If MPs support it, we should get the most accurate picture yet of the implications.

Will enough MP's want the truth to be spelt out clearly though?

What I do find a little disconcerting is that 99 people don't want the truth to be spelt out in a report on a No deal outcome.

I wonder what they want suppressed?
