Netflix jobs boost for Brexit Britain

Jump to: Newest in thread

By (user no longer on site) OP     over a year ago

Technology giant Netflix has announced it is looking to more than double its office space for its headquarters in London, as it searches for a new site of 50,000 sq ft, more than doubling its current office space of 20,000 sq ft at its headquarters in Oxford circus, which will create hundreds, possibly thousands of new UK jobs. In a show of confidence in Brexit Britain Netflix has boosted its UK presence in the past year, and has made 40 new productions involving more than 25,000 cast and crew.

Netflix is not the only technology giant to signal its confidence in Brexit Britain, as Facebook, Apple, Google, and Whatsapp have also committed to new and larger headquarters in the UK or had new recruitment drives in the UK, since the UK voted to leave in 2016.

The UK has already seen overall jobs numbers in the uk reach record high's since the Brexit vote, and Official foreign investment figures showed that the uk attracted more foreign direct investment than France and Germany combined in 2018. The doom and gloom predictions of remoaners peddling project fear have well and truly been put to bed.

Netflix make an announcement that has nothing to with Brexit, yet you dress it up as that, whereas the Japan PM makes a very clear warning about investment in Brexit Britain but you completely ignore it. Same with Vauxhall, warning that its production of a new model on Merseyside depends on the outcome of Brexit. Real jobs, real manufacturing.

Are you suggesting that new jobs at companies like Netflix, Facebook, Google and Whatsapp are not 'real jobs'?

Besides UK manufacturers like JCB have also committed to building new production facilities in the UK to increase production and output, Real jobs, real manufacturing in Brexit Britain at JCB.

Yes, all the jobs with Japanese companies are going elsewhere in the European Union, just like Honda.....

That’s the cost of brexit

The Japanese have said a few times now they needed the uk as a bridge into the EU; Now they will go into another EU country because that will give them the gateway they need to ship their products fast and cheap

Absolutely sweet fuck all to do with Brexit.

Nice try though, well no, it was quite lame really but you're only spouting the latest Express headline that fits your narrative, bless you

As an indication of further confidence in the UK , British Car Auctions have been sold to a private equity company and will now be delisted.

I ignore all the posters of doom and gloom on here . With the stock exchange maintaining a consistent level, lots of foreign investors eager to invest in the UK , and unemployment at an all time low some of their arguments are simply laughable.

Share prices would have collapsed if there was a remote possibility of their doomsday scenarios actually happening. In addition banks would stop lending or start calling in loans.

A few tweaks to duties are hardly going to make much difference .

Boris Johnson and his team are more that capable of resolving any issues associated with Brexiy for the UK.

And one more bit of good news . Dividends are close to an all time high. This benefits both pensioners and anyone who has invested in a pension fund in addition to those who have invested directly in shares.

The poor also benefit as charities who invest legacies will have additional income to give to the poor.

Can I just point out, listing Facebook and WhatsApp as different companies is a tad stupid and shows a lack of research.

As they are separate legal entities they are different companies. The Ops research on these topics is inn the top quartile , if not the best on these forums.

These jobs are great news.

Brilliant.

They are not going to Leave voting areas of the country.

They are going to open, liberal, immigrant-riddled London. They are jobs for the well-educated "elite".

They are also service companies. Internal departments. No trade. No imports. No exports. No profits to tax.

If you want to put this on the context of Brexit find what tax incentives, grants and promises have been made to secure these investments.

All companies horse-trade, but we will now be paying over the odds.

Remember the £61 million grant that had nothing to do with Nissan saying that they were staying in the UK but they won't receive when they moved future X Trail production?

Japan signed a trade deal with the EU. They don't need a 'gateway' any longer. They'll just ship cars produced in Japan straight to their EU dealers tariff-free.

What they absolutely won't need is a manufacturing base in a country whose exports to the EU will almost certainly attract tariffs or the like.

We'll be importing them too. So we lose jobs and gain extra fees. Spin that 'win-win' please.

They have excess capacity in Japan so they will manufacture there.

There is a cost to shipping half way across the world but that is lower than the capital expenditure in planning for and building a new factory.

They already have an efficient plant in the UK, but that will now be outside the biggest local market so it actually makes more financial sense for them to ship from Japan.

What does that tell you about post Brexit manufacturing competitiveness?

Car manufacturing is hardly a booming business . Ford closing plants in France, Russia (as well as UK) and cutting shifts in the plants in Spain and Germany.

12,000 jobs going in a bid to turn around global profitability.

Once the EU / Japan FTA was agreed it was always going to be jobs being relocated from the EU back to Japan. It's in their psyche. Wherever those jobs are in the EU...the car industry is just the start of it.

No. Japan Is 5300 miles away from Europe. Much further by see.

There is a time and financial cost to that.

The capital investment had already been made here. It would have made financial sense to maintain that for the most popular European models.

How many Japanese do you know to read their psyche? In my experience it takes time for Japanese to be open but once you have become part of their wider group they are fiercely loyal. They have made very few redundancies in the UK and even the USA in the leanest of times.
