Today's Eu elections should be a good indication on the electorate's opinion on Brexit, we will finally see if most of the leave voters have died as remainers on here keep saying!
Who is right and who is wrong, we may have the answer by Sunday when the results come in.
Let the battle commence. |

To have a proper "battle" as you put it between leave & remain then then that would need to be a referendum on that question, not on a vote for who to best represent us in the European Parliament.

It's an unofficial battle, if people vote for the Brexit Party they are saying they don't want to be represented in europe surely!

"i thought the remainers would relish this election to prove how the country has changed its mind but it seems by some comments they are not so confident now. "
Thats very poor thinking! The rabble roused will vote for brexit and the indifferent (disenfranchised?) wont....its not going to be an indicator of very much except that populism is winning out over parliamentary democracy. Wave your flag if you want to but its not a revolution in politics....its a failure in society |

The concept of parliamentary democracy not the fucking idiots in power at the moment. They haven’t got the numbers and to make them they had to make a costly deal with the devil that was pointless because of their own infighting. In the past a government would have accepted that they cannot govern and would have made a coalition with a party large enough and reliable enough to get their bills through or would have gone back to the country. Meanwhile that hair brained fuckwit farage is trying to destroy parliament. Anyone for an emperor? Oh wait a minute though....we need an empire for that dont we? |

Its hilarious how the Lib dems were crowing just a couple of weeks ago how the local election results in which they made big gains, were a sure indication on how the country felt about Brexit, and that people wanted a 2nd referendum to stop Brexit.
Now it seems the liberals have soon changed their tune as the Brexit party top all the polls by a country mile!

From labours POv they could argue Mays deal is not the level of SM/CU they talked about. I would imagine the ERG would argue that there were better deals out there to get. I can’t square off any one supporting no deal and their manifesto pledges. |

Farage is going to do very well for the same reason the Leave campaign did well in the referendum. They have deliberately kept it vague. They have no manifesto, no plan, just 'leave means leave' over again.
That means, once again they can unite a wide, disparate group of people by pretending that they can be everything to everyone.

Thats wrong as the Brexit party have a very clear policy to leave the EU with no deal, called a WTO Brexit. Seems its the most popular option now amongst leave voters, if the Brexit pary romp home to victory in these European elections as the polls indicate they will. |

Socrates on voting:
If you were heading out on a journey by sea, asks Socrates, who would you ideally want deciding who was in charge of the vessel? Just anyone or people educated in the rules and demands of seafaring? The latter of course, says Adeimantus, so why then, responds Socrates, do we keep thinking that any old person should be fit to judge who should be a ruler of a country? |

I never have much faith in opinion polls . Let us see the results on Sunday.
We are however now entering very dangerous territory with the real risk of a Labour Government.
The best thing the Conservatives can do now is promote a no deal Brexit and merge with the Brexiy party.
We would all then be winners.
The refendum result was one of the happiest moments in my life , hopefully Sunday will be another defining day.
We can treat today's poll as being the second referendum. All those who wanted a second referendum got what they wanted and we will know the result on Sunday.
Despite all the comments of the merchants of doom and gloom on here the Stock Market is still performing well and unemployment is at at all time low.
Planes are still flying despite some posters claiming that they would be grounded.
People in the UK have never had it so good .
I am sure we all await Sundays results with eager anticipation

A majority amount a small majority is most likely a minority. What is key is whether those leave voters who don’t prefer wto would be okay with wto (it’s just not their preference). I have no feel for that as until recently all sides have inly talked about a deal. No one really talked about WTO until we saw Mays deal. |

Whilst it will of course show how many people have been duped yet again by the self serving con man that Farage is it is not an actual referendum, people like you would and have been running scared of an actual referendum for months and whilst I don't think there should be in the initial question it is no surprise that in desperate need for some fillip of comfort the spin is rife..
Mate take your head out of your arse, people are struggling to feed their kids properly..
Essential services are cut to the bone with high levels of stress for those having to pick up the pieces of a tory government that believes in cutting services to give tax cuts to the well off..
Food banks are everywhere, fucks sake teachers are feeding some kids who turn up at school hungry..
And don't spout employment figures when zero hours contracts is your idea of a success, Victorian practises are not the indicator of a modern society..
It's complete bollocks to say people in the UK have never had it so good..

"People in the UK have never had it so good ."
Tell that to those that have lost their homes through universal credit
Tell it to those left behind to try and survive following a suicide because of U/C
Tell it to the thousands sleeping on the streets begging
Tell it to the NHS nurses having to swallow their pride and use food banks to ensure they eat... Or better still, swap with them for just one month and see if you still think "we've never had it so good".
The truth is, this Country is one of the worlds top ten richest, but the reality for countless thousands that live here... It's fast becoming one of the worlds top ten 3rd world existence. |

It is very easy to dismiss the argument that this election is a pseudo referendum. I am sure many remain supporters will.
However, why can't they maintain that there is any appetite to remain if the leavers do well?
Because they cannot muster enough support at the ballot box again perhaps?
I suppose they can ask for another EU election if the results go against them. |

I can only call it a dictatorship as even with a Technocratic approach you'd need someone at the top to overrule any decisions made which would be detrimental.
Now we all know power corrupts but honestly, apart from local people doing what's best for their local area (direct democracy) I can't see another way out.

Numbers are historically low in any EU election yes, in some ways the forore over the brexit party of late will garner support but will also have some looking and thinking what is the point..
Think it's true to say that the vast majority on both sides of the leave or remain camps have had enough and just want the whole sorry mess to end.. |

I think the turnout will be higher than that this time. When I rolled up at the polling station this morning at 7:45 there were other people in there voting. I always go and vote on my way into work at about that time and it's usually empty.

"i thought the remainers would relish this election to prove how the country has changed its mind but it seems by some comments they are not so confident now.
Its hilarious how the Lib dems were crowing just a couple of weeks ago how the local election results in which they made big gains, were a sure indication on how the country felt about Brexit, and that people wanted a 2nd referendum to stop Brexit.

I think you'll find it's a closer than that. The polls suggest BREXIT and UKIP will get about 33%; LibDems, Greens, ChangeUK, SNP and Plaid about 33%; Labour and Tories about 33%.
I guess it all depends on whether the Remain parties get their vote out or the BREXIT parties.
As quick guide I'd say that a vote for BREXIT/UKIP is a vote for a hard 'no deal' BREXIT; a vote for Labour/Conservative is a vote for a May stile deal; a vote for LibDems/Greens/ChangeUK/SNP/Plaid is a vote for Remain.
Either way you can be pretty sure that whichever of the Hard/Deal/Remain groupings gets the most votes (not seats) will claim that that is a clear indication of the people's will whilest the side which gets less will claim that it's not really relevant.

"I do wonder what the turnout will be?
Will they be doing exit polls?"
Yes, but they can't publish until all the polling stations close, which, because it includes all polling stations across Europe too, is sometime on Sunday evening.

"A bit like the referendum then cracken ?"
A bit. It's all going to depend on who gets their vote out.
My prediction is that the BREXIT/UKIP seats will hold or be slightly up but won't sweep the board. 30 seats maximum.
The Labour/Conservatives will lose seats, possibly the Conservatives will get 0 but between them no more than 20
The LibDems/Greens/SNP/Plaid will gain seats and end up with between 15 to 20 seats.
We'll just have to wait and see.

That's quite unfortunate, I am sorry to hear that.

Ha, let's pretend this election is for something completely different... That's bordering on delusional.

Never had it so good "all the while being a member of the European Union"
Interesting that you want to change all that then, never had it so good stuff...

so 1 DUP (arseholes) 1 sinn fein IRA (communist arseholes) 1 UUP (just glad to make up the numbers arseholes)... doubt if it'll change away from that. |

Thats some pretty epic levels of spin you're engaging in there, Alistair Campbell would be proud, LOL.
The reality is that the Conservative votes and Labour votes are still votes for Brexit, they both have commitments to deliver Brexit in their party manifestos!
So Ukip, Brexit party, plus Conservative and Labour are all votes for Brexit in one form or another, which vastly outstrips the Remain/Revoke percentage of the Lib dems/Greens/ChangeUK/SNP/Plaid. |

Brexiters excited to vote on thing they know jack shit about again
LEAVE voters have confirmed they will be turning out in large numbers to vote on a thing they do not have a clue about.
Brexiters are keen to vote in the European Parliament elections, despite having no idea what it is, what it does or whether electing some Brexit Party idiots achieves anything.
Roy Hobbs of Chichester said: “I hate the EU Council of Parliaments. We don’t need those unelected fascists telling us we can’t eat fish and chips without filling in a form.
“I haven’t done any research, obviously, but I reckon it’s based in Berlin to run the new EuroArmy. Thank god Farage will be able to put a stop to it with his hundreds of Brexit Party MEPs.
“My daughter says if I google ‘European Parliament’ I’d find out it’s democratically elected and they deal with a lot of dull-but-necessary stuff like business regulations and recycling.
“It makes me sick that so many young people have been taken in by Project Fear.”
Retired shopkeeper Mary Fisher said: “If Nigel gets enough votes they’ll have to let him be prime minister. He can move into Downing Street on Friday and stop all this political correctness.
“It’s like the referendum all over again. I didn’t really follow it but I do know there’s too many foreigners and it’s only two minutes’ walk to the local primary school.” |

Or 66? for a deal better than we have now or no BREXIT and 33? for 'no deal' BREXIT.
Or 66? for 'no deal' BREXIT or Remain and 33? for better deal than we have now.
We can all add up. What's your point?

Let the battle commence. This is probably the only good thing about us still bring in the EU.
I am sure we all await Sundays results with eager anticipation
.
" The very point about people feeding children properly was the topic of a number of letters in the national press today.
You can hardly blame the government for this. How are these parents spending their child benefit ? . You can be certain that those who claim to be struggling to feed their children probably have the latest model of mobile phone and a Sky package and buy lots of takeaway food.
The issue to which you are referring would appear to be due to a failure of parents to cook food from raw materials.
Unemployment is at an all time high and zero hours contracts suit many people. It gives them flexibility and an opportunity to prove themselves to potential employers .

The very point about people feeding children properly was the topic of a number of letters in the national press today.
Businnes have to adapt to survive. "
Adaptation is obviously not your strong point Pat! Doh! |

"Brexiters excited to vote on thing they know jack shit about again
I didn’t really follow it but I do know there’s too many foreigners and it’s only two minutes’ walk to the local primary school.”"
Would you like a pint of Bitter to go with your sour grapes? |

The EU wide election is not for remain or wasted leave voting.
A referendum or general election can do that properly. Divide and conquer is only a good tactic for rabble rowsers if you are herded like sheep.
A small number of elderly leave voters have sadly died and I mourn their loss as much as similar remainers. The bigger change for people is now what they have since learned upon the subject |

"Today's Eu elections should be a good indication on the electorate's opinion on Brexit, we will finally see if most of the leave voters have died as remainers on here keep saying!
Who is right and who is wrong, we may have the answer by Sunday when the results come in.
Let the battle commence. This is probably the only good thing about us still bring in the EU.

While I wouldn't be suprised some people who say they are struggling are making poor decisions, you really think those going to food banks have the latest iPhone etc?
And while zero hours contracts may suit some people, that doesn't show that everyone who is on them thinks they are great.
I'm guessing you haven't looked at the latest report (which included anecdotal evidence you put a lot of weight on as well as the wider evidence). |

To have a proper "battle" as you put it between leave & remain then then that would need to be a referendum on that question, not on a vote for who to best represent us in the European Parliament.
Yeah the second referendum and the next election will be the true test .This is just a foreplay before a proper fucking..
The results are not in but the excuses are coming in thick and fast. Thick being the operative word!
You may be making some yourself come Sunday evening.
"
Nah, I will almost certainly be laughing out loud. If the impossible happens and the BREXIT Party are not triumphant, I will accept the result with profound disappointment. |

Well i haven't died since 2016, and i haven't changed my mind either. Just been to the polling station and voted for the Brexit party. "

It could be....but at least we will have fought a good clean fight unlike that lying pretend, man of the people, you all love, farage! Dont forget that under his camouflage he is just another london posh boy who went to dulwich college. Google it and you might think again about his common touch! He is a fraud and if you are gullible enough to fall for it well god help you and the country! |
