For years, I have had this idea of living for six months in Spain (winter) and UK (summer).
In Benidorm at mo and listening to a Brexit help slot on the local English-language radio station.
In the event of a hard Brexit, or at the end of the transition, it no longer will be possible to be a resident of both countries.
If I opted to remain a UK resident, I would be allowed to live in Spain for a maximum of 90 days and could not return until another 90 days have passed.
If I became a Spanish resident, the same would apply in reverse.
It looks like Brexit has f*cked my idea up.
Is anyone else affected? |

"Yes.
I’m exploring my citizenship options as to how to get round this.
I’m wondering if I can revert back to my Mothers Country but it’s catch 22 with the Uk then.
Bit of a clusterfuck. "
My mum has a house in france and a flat here and she’s now having to seriously reconsider her retirement options and may end up moving to france especially if the uk goes down the pan because of brexit! Me, I am looking for an Australian or New Zealand escape route, although with global warming that might bollox everything up anyway! |

Everything can be an opportunity in life. I plan on making and offer soon on a property abroad so low it will feel like they've been kicked in the balls.
There will always be positives.Although I'm not moving until my nippers are through university and by that time we could of left and rejoined .
The expats will be desperate to to sell over the coming years at bargain basement prices.Itll be an opportunity for some. |

We were going to do the same....
So will alter our plans to suit the new rules.
No biggie for us, as I will be able to modify my work accordingly. |

Was looking at doing the same. Winter in southern Spain and summer back here. So yes it’s got a whole lot more challenging.
That said I could always get Spanish citizenship and kiss the u.k. good bye. |

Is anyone else affected?" I planned to go and live in Greece when I retired, maybe Canaries but health problems have put paid to that nothing to do with in or out of the EU.
So be thankfull your healthy enough to be able to consider this,I am sure you will sort something instead of moaning and being so selfish,Brexit is not about you and your personal wants.
Also Greece has become less attractive because the EU ruined a beautifull way of life that is not suited the the selfish EU ideals.I am off to Greece later this week but no it is no longer the laid back land I first went to many years ago,it has been destroyed by the EU |

Yes indeed, the reality that they were bankrupting their own country and basically forced to sort themselves out properly and live within their means was totally out of order wasn't it |

Wishful thinking.
The bottom of the Spanish market was 4/5 years ago when you could really steal some places (we did twice )
Prices are now on an upward curve, not to the dizzy heights of 2004/5 but upwards nonetheless.
In our area a town house that could have been bought for 60/70,000€ in 2014 will now set you back at least 100,000€ and the 40/50 grand apartments are now around 70/80.
Some people think that the Brits are the only buyers but the Scandinavians (especially Norwegians) are buying places like there is no tomorrow, and the Germans and French are starting to be players again.
Waiting for a post Brexit price collapse is akin to waiting for a lottery win. It won't happen. |

I've never been aboard, could you not own a place in Spain, own a home in the UK only used for you in a family name, and come to an throw on a long holiday visa. Or work as technically you don't own a home official in the UK |

Some posters on here cannot think beyond the UK. As you rightly said there are many more buyers than those from the UK .
No doubt it is will disappoint the anti Brexit brigade on here but they will simply have to face reality. |

That's an idea. Three months in Portugal and three months in Spain.
It would mean a shorter let on a property and a little more travel but it could work. I would avoid becoming an illegal immigrant. |

You could probably do the same for Gibraltar as well. |

Add another country and you could be a PT (perpetual traveller) and getting tax out of you would become a nightmare job for any one country. |

Only if I became a resident of one of the countries.
My idea is to keep my status intact in the UK - a permanent address, bank account etc - and basically go on holiday in the winter.
So any income tax etc would be to the UK treasury. |

Rellies in Oz but NZ is more appealing so maybe marriage of convenience |
