"Twice, in the space of a few days, the Secretary of State for Defence is on the back foot."
Obviously, the assault allegations need properly looking into, but as for the "target practice" incident, I'd hope somebody in the Labour Party is having a serious think about why a bunch of squaddies felt the urge to do that and is looking to try and mend fences between the rank and file and the guy who'll probably be the next PM. |

“The reality is that every terrorist we have dealt with has sought inspiration from the propaganda of others, and when they can’t find it on Facebook, YouTube, Telegram or Twitter they only have to turn on the TV, read the paper or go to one of a myriad of mainstream media websites struggling to compete with those platforms.”
- Neil Basu, head of counter-terror policing, Met Police, March 2019
Darren Osborne, the Finsbury Park terrorist, was inspired by "far-right messaging found in mainstream media", according to Basu.

Your fixation with the Daily Mail for a start, your assumption that everyone who disagrees with you must read it!
Perhaps they were having a laugh (firing paintball rounds at a poster as I understand it), you should try it sometime you might enjoy it! |

Not totally sold on that one, wasn't he talking to Sinn Fein as an elected official as part of the peace protest?
Though, yes he has sat down with some other questionable groups, to say the least.
Maybe sitting down with that group of soldiers and discussing exactly why he held those meetings and addressing their concerns might not be a bad PR exercise? |

I use the daily mail as a phrase, when really I mean the enteral right wing media.
But yeah you’re right, I don’t really care about what a couple of people in the army did. For me personally, it’s a non-story.
Off to fire some paint balls at copies of the Telegraph.... |

Strange that you say it's a non story but decided to comment on it!
Why not, it would be good to get some of that resentment out! |

Which is why I suspect it is a rival trying to smear Williamson by drawing media attention to a video on social media that otherwise would pass un-noticed. |

May has fired the starting gun on an election, but none of the candidates want to be seen doing anything overt, so they’ll resort to covert in order to position themselves (and reposition their rivals). |

Im not sure his duties included making statements such as "I'm happy to commemorate all those who died fighting for an independent Ireland". I'm assuming if he ever makes PM he'd expect HM forces to put their lives on the line to protect his sorry ass. |

You seemed to be concerned about the video as you were quick to draw peoples attention to it. Personally if they were members of The Salvation Army and not The Parachute Regiment I would be concerned, it's just high jinx and letting off steam! |

I'm more worried about the quality of the leadership (officer or NCO) who was in charge of this lot and the crass stupidity of the bloke who posted up the video than the act itself. Not the brightest clearly |

Believe it or not these actions are not new by any means! They have been going on since the 70's and probably before! The Paras have a reputation, the "airborne " psychic is instilled in them. They are great to be with them in war situation, but I can only describe them as "animals" most of the time based on the 5 years I was seconded to them! I thought it might have changed but clearly it hasn't! |

"I'd hope somebody in the Labour Party is having a serious think about why a bunch of squaddies felt the urge to do that and is looking to try and mend fences between the rank and file and the guy who'll probably be the next PM."
OMG are you really that uniformed? Do you really think that squaddies are issued pistols and just slope off to an indoor, or for that matter any range for a little target practice with 'butt fuck' ammo whenever they feel the need to let off a little steam and shoot up a poster of the Labour leader they just happen to have lying around (in an active service war zone if you failed to notice)?
Let me point out a some glaring inconsistencies to you.
1. Whoever took the photo was standing in front of the firing line while firing was supposedly taking place.
2. Use of ranges is strictly controlled and only a 'range officer' can book or draw the keys to ranges and must be present while the range is in use.
3. Only authorised personnel can draw weapons and ammunition (even if it is paint-ball ammo).
4. Except for highly specialised units pistols are only carried as personal protection weapons by officers (and in my experience most officers preferred to carry rifles).
5. Every man and woman (in the ranks) of HM Armed forces would know that if a photo of them as part of a squad taking potshots on the range at a photo of any celebrity let alone the leader of HM Opposition were to be seen by any Officer or SNCO (forget making it to the national news) then they would all be looking at court-martial, a spell in Colly and discharge. The only thing that would stop this from happening is if they were acting under the orders of a senior officer.
Considering the above, and how there has been no announcement of charges against those on the firing line, the question has to be from how high up did the order originate?

You do not understand the purpose of the post.
Millions of videos are posted to the internet every day.
Someone drew this particular one to the attention of the national media.
The reason for this post was to ask about the motivation of that person (or, more likely, a rather expensive agency hired by one of the front-runners to damage his or her rivals).

You originally posted about the video on your "Terrorism" thread commenting about the army needing to purge itself of extremists with guns no mention of anyone trying to damage the defence secretarys credibility! |
