Great to see that in the event of a no deal Brexit Next the retailer will be passing the price reductions from reduced tariffs on to consumers.

Next is an outstanding success story in a highly competitive market.

Not heard this. When was it announced, as their timing may give them greater credibility too.

"Great to see that in the event of a no deal Brexit Next the retailer will be passing the price reductions from reduced tariffs on to consumers.

1. Lord Wolfson, Chairman of Next is a rabid Brexiteer

2. Savings for Next from No Deal tariff production would be between 12 and 15m

3. The "modest savings" will be passed onto consumers

4. "In the context of £1.7bn of stock purchases, the savings would be relatively modest." quote from Wolfson

That's hardly earth shattering news is it?

So should they happen 12-15M savings from tarrif reductions but given Next is an import based business how much added to their cost base due to Brexit weakening the pound?

I guess that the Chairman has factored that in otherwise it would not be a saving . In any event the current exchange rate makes out exports a lot more competitive .

As I understand it typically UK import tarrifs on clothing are about 10% and the fall in the pound post the referendum is around 15% which would suggest a net increase in cost unless the value of the pound shows at least a moderate improvement as the uncertaintly settles.

You seem to be forgetting about the tarrifs that will be imposed on all exports from the UK.

Hi. Maybe you should speak to Lord Bamford, Tim Martin , Dyson or the Chairman of Next .

All run very successfull companies and I am sure they could explain the implications of exchange rate movements to you .

Bamford? You mean the boss of JCB? That company owned by a Dutch parent? The guy who paid BoJo £10K to stand in front of his diggers and extoll the virtues of Brexit?

Tim Martin? They guy who's company Wetherspoons profits plummeted 19% in the last half year? To which his response was to blame remain voters? Nothing to do with his shit business sense? I mean c'mon pissing off half those that voted and make your staff distribute brexit propaganda isn't going to go well, is it?

Dyson? The guy who has been relocating his headquarter to Singapore?

The chairman of Next? Wolfson? They guy who has urged the government not to rush negotiations, warning that the economy would suffer from a botched or rushed deal? The guy who's company has had 3 straight years of falling profits (but of course is nothing to do with Brexit)?

Small?

They vary from a few % to 50 %.

Irrelevant?

Foreign companies exporting to the UK will pay no duty, but UK companies exporting to those same countries will have duty added to their products.

That makes UK manufacturing less competitive, not more competitive.

It is also exacerbates the UK’s chronic balance of payments problem.

Bamford JCB earns the majority of profit from Asia, North & South America

Tim Martin can buy any old cheap shit booze from anywhere

Next use around 97% of their suppler factories in low cost slaver type countries like Vietnam, Cambodia, China.

Dyson makes NOTHING here now.

So, good examples of British business supporting Brexit

Luckily we leave in a free society and people are allowed to express an opinion . I guess you would not dare walk up to someone in a pub and accuse them of talking tosh. It is of course very easy to be brave behind the anonymity of a keyboard .

For the avoidance of doubt I admire men such as Lord Bamford, Tim Martin and Dyson. We should be gratefull fit the employment that they provide .

You may think it tosh to admire success , many others do not. At least the majority of people appreciate their contribution to the UK economy , clearly you do not.

If your base source is sound facts and figures are irrelevant. Why would anyone was to post facts and figures on here .? Members are on this site to seek other people's opinions , not to obtain facts and figures .

If I required them there are plenty of other sources from which the data is available.

It does not matter what you say wether you present fact or opinion, The hardcore Remainers will always shout you down. For every fact there is a counter fact, for every poll there is a counter poll, for every opinion there is a counter opinion. For every business there are pros and cons. I work for a company that is in both export of goods and services. It is a British company that has a turnover of 4bn The CEO has made sure that the company is ready for any situation, although he would have preferred a good deal to be achieved. He is a realist and is ready to exploit every opportunity that no deal brings. He voted Remain, but rather than sit and cry about it he had ensured the company is ready to prosper whatever happens.

The fact is Remainers love the EU and hate the UK.

Leavers love their country and believe in the countries ability to prosper outside the EU.

So ten years of austerity under a tory government had no influence on brexit?

I love my country so much that I want it to be an honest truthful caring place that pays people fairly for a days real work instead of trying to emulate the American dream of winner takes all and hang the losers. My country, the one I grew up in and love dearly....not fantasy bloody island

Is this a fact or a "counter fact"?

If leavers love the country, why are they happy to flush it down the toilet to benefit a few ultra rich individual who orchestrated the whole thing?

This last part is key "believe in the countries ability to prosper outside the EU". Theres zero evidence for this, so your belief is based purely on faith that everything we know about Brexit, is false.
