"Just read about this, a clause in many EU trade deals states that any deal offered to a country outside the EU must be equalled to the EU... This probably means that we will never never get a better deal than we have now, because if they offer a better deal to us, than they have with the EU then they will have to extend those terms to the EU as part of the trade deal they have with the EU. Google "Most Favoured Nation clauses in EU trade agreements: one more hurdle for UK negotiators" and there is an article by Sussex university. It's highly unlikely any country will offer us more favourable terms than a current deal we have through the EU if it means they have to automatically give that deal to the EU as a whole... So much for cheaper food, unless it's chlorinated chicken from Trump " CETA (Canada/EU Trade agreement) has that exact language in it... so does the new Japan/EU trade agreement, to name but two..... I don't know why so many brexiteers spouted the "MFN" myth for so long, because they were told it was not true from the start.. moggsy, davies, bojo, rabb, the ERG, ect ect ect i heard it again mentioned today and yet again it was shot down. this time by the BoE chief mark carney..... its snake oil salespeople once again promising unicorns... | |||
