I don't know - we've had some awful ones, so perhaps the safe bet is to assume it's going to be as bad - or worse

Douglas Home, unelected then lost an election.
Callaghan, unelected then lost an election.
Major, unelected then fought elections.
Brown, unelected then lost.
May, unelected then fought an election.
Could go back further but it is less rare than people think. Over the same period, Wilson, Heath, Thatcher, Blair and Cameron took up the role directly after elections. |

Dependent on how the next few days/weeks go, it could come down to a straight fight between a hard right candidate and a more moderate centrist candidate.
Personally, I like David Liddington. He commands great respect and is naturally engaging, something Mrs May sadly lacks. |

He votes against fox hunting bans
He votes against equality and human rights
He votes for decreasing benefits
He votes for reducing housing benefits
He always votes for war

A beauty parade among Tory MPs all trying to position themselves as their next leader.

Really?
We vote for our local MP. None of us get to vote for the PM.
Technically speaking, a party can change leader after securing victory in an election.
Here's a thought. Lets say you have a party that wins an election, but the party leader loses their seat in the process. That leader can not become PM, so the party would have to select a new leader. What do you do then? Rerun the election? |
