Seems they are putting all their workers on permanent contracts from zero hour contracts due to brexit.Worried about the lack of cheap labour from the eu.Should please all you that keep banging on about zero hour contracts when it's pointed out we have increased jobs since we voted to leave.

The zero hours contracts where one of the biggest cons ever invented, nobody I know is happy on one always struggling to get enough hours to make it worth it.

They abolished zero hours contracts last year.
They intend to offer flexible working and family friendly hours to future employees, in case there is a employee shortage in the future.
Their gender diversity policy is also bringing in more employees, so it seems that progressive working practices are reaping due reward. |

So a single unintended benefit from Brexit for one set of employees working for a single company.
Assuming this is true, I haven’t looked into it to see if is, or to see if the contracts you say they have been offered are actually much better than their zero hours contracts. This is the first minor benefit that anyone has managed to mention on these forums since the start. So well done on that.
Is this worth the epic 800 million a week we’re haemorrhaging due to Brexit or all the other businesses that are exodusing the country and all their workers that are being layed off, even before we’ve left! |

People deserve respect and the right to be treated decently with terms and conditions applicable to the modern age not serfs to stand about at the beck and call of some lackey of the boss..
Economies like Germany have proven they can have standards in the workplace that not only protects the workers right but is shown to be successful..
Whilst some elements of flexible working are good the type of zero hours contracts used by some here are not acceptable.. |

The UK has serious shortages across various skilled sectors, not least in health, engineering and construction. If what you say is correct, it looks like employers are starting to feel a shortage of unskilled labour, too.
I’ve been arguing for a while that Brexit is likely to expose serious deficiencies in the education and training of people here. |

The director of Reed Employment was interviewed in one of the weekend papers and they are expecting business to increase ( not decrease) . It makes Project Fear look laughable now. |

There are plus sides to zero hours contracts. It gives employees flexibility and the opportunity to prove themselves for more permanent roles.
Like it or not it is business that keeps people in work who in turn pay taxes that fund public services .
In many businesses competition is cut throat and employers have little choice but to adopt zero hours contracts.You need to be able to adopt quickly to changing circumstances . |

I don't think you understand how temp employment works. An increase in zero hours and temp contracts at the expense of proper jobs isn't a win for Brexit. |

It's good that he is so confident, but he is an outlier in his opinion.
There are several major businessmen who supported Brexit. Several have now relocated themselves and their companies abroad. |

That is the biggest load of bullshit to ever be propagated. Business only has 1 aim and that is to MAXIMISE PROFIT. It does this with the smallest workforce possible paying as little and with the minimum worker security it can get away with. It is customers and government (when it invests inwardly) who create jobs and through those jobs wealth. |

I disagree. I know that my situation is probably not the same as many who have been forced into taking these sorts of contacts against their will but not all, including myself. I do believe that the situation has been abused my some employees but for some people, like myself, these sorts of flexible contacts have worked well. Whilst I hope the abuses of the contracts is addressed, and some already have, I would not support the abolition of these sorts of contracts and the flexibility that can comes with them.

But, as long as the playing field is level, competition would remain the same. What you seem to be saying is that employers are forcing employees into zero hour contracts because the competition is. If they were made illegal then the competition would not have them either. That seems to me to be a reason to ban them, not keep them.
Zero hour contracts are only a good idea if the employee wants the flexibility they can offer.
