I recently came a across a book on meritocracy, now in this day of utter farcical politics of Brexit. it was the only system that actually made sense to me. The basic premise of the party is one of pure merit, so all people are the same all educated the same. There is no party as such but people are voted as MP's and then are divorced if you will from party politics and just represent the people. The prime minister is not the party leader but voted for by the whole of the commons. There is a 100% inheritance tax to do away with the 1% elite. imagine a country where we are all the same. there is no unelected titles screwing over people. The banks are in state hands. The inheritance tax helps pay for education. all children are educated equally.
It is a fresh approach by those who have screwed the country over time and time again. No Race involved no sexism, just all people equal |

But we are not all born equal.
I wish we where.

It can never work for the simple reason we are humans and all have different traits.There are lazy people,hard working people,liars and cheats,honest people,people who want to lead and others who just want to follow so everyone being equal is just an ideology.Who wants to live in a country where we all live in the same houses eat the same food drive the same cars wear the same cloths? i personally could not think of anything more boring. |

I never said we would live in the same house or eat the same food. Very true we are not born equal but if I took two babies and give them to each others parents would the poor baby grow up thinking that it is downtrodden even though it had a rich upbringing? would the rich baby given to poor parents grow up any different to the people in the poor area? we are held back by ourselves because w think in terms of elite or common. The clever are only clever because of education. luck as nothing to do with it, make your own luck. chance and luck favours a prepared mind. Break the mould people. |

Half asleep and ill, but I'll try and put something coherent together:
The idea of everyone being equal is sort of Utopian thinking, for most people they say, "yes that would be the best way, but some people are cheats, liars, greedy, more industrious."
This underlines a reality of Biology we are not all equal.
My best mate is 6t odd and we do Jujitsu together. He wins more times due to brute strength, I score higher points in competitions due to being more skilled. We are not equal, he has a natural advantage, but this is offset as he admits I want to win more, and therefore train harder for tournaments.
A better way to approach equality is not to shoot for equality of outcome, but for equality of opportunity. We try this here, but we struggle. For example a child going to a private school vs a state school for their entire compulsory secondary education gets just over 3x the resources over the other, plus more one to one tuition. Yet both children and their parents are equal under the Law, yet their equality is not replicated in their basic needs as individuals in complex societies.
In short the issue is complex, and it requires a rigorous discussion about personal liberty vs entrenched advantages.
Trying to make everyone a statistically average equal is a bad idea, but ensuring that equality of opportunity starts at birth and ends at death is horribly complex and to many it might sound like socialism. |
