I read some gossip that Mrs May fully expects Article 50 to be delayed.
There is not enough time left to straighten out the laws and regulations that need to be in place on March 30.
People like Kier Starmer have been warning of this for months.
Proceed with the March 29 deadline and the law will be full of holes on March 30.
But she does not want to be the one to be seen to be delaying Brexit.
So the assumption is Parliament will instruct her to delay.
Then she can say it wasn't her who delayed it.
That strategy requires the EU to agree to an extension.
If it is simply a case of delaying the inevitable, why would they?

Because the EU don't want a no deal Brexit because they at least can see it's damaging to both sides. |

...kicked down the road.....
the longer the vote is kicked down the road and they try to run down the clock the more i think A50 will likely be extended.......
may's stubborness on appearing to side with the harder line people will eventually rebound! problem is that she is more interested in putting party before country, and so do her party who scorn any suggestion coming from elsewhere....

Not so well then...
I am more inclined to the pushed/fall off the cliff outcome. I think the EU has lost patience with May and her 'negotiating' style and team and that Donald Tusks last comment about hell was the final not so diplomatic but very public notification to the British government that unless May and her cronies show with good faith that there is movement by us on the Irish question then the EU are going to pull the plug on the UK at 2300 and implement the contingency plans they have been putting in place for the last 2 and a bit years while we can sink or swim depending on how well Mrs May and the Tory ministry for brexit has planned for a 'no deal' brexit.
Personally I expect we will find out that we are up shit creak, but will be very relieved to be proven wrong. |

"Can A50 be revoked by Theresa May only or does she need the back up of the parliament? "
As Prime Minister she has the legal right to revoke A50 and given her games over the last two years I would not put it past her to revoke it March 28th and resign on the same day. Thereby being both honourable and the ultimate twat in the same instance. |

it "could" be done by TM herself... but I bet she will wait on parliament to make her do it, and i don't think a revocation of A50 is coming without a 2nd referendum... which isn't coming soon....
I think we are more likely to see a 9 month extention till xmas... and at that stage if we are still at where we are... thats when i think you may see ref 2.... |

I've lost track of what the current situation is... does an extension require agreement from supermajority of the EU27?

The UK can revoke Article 50 unilaterally. That was the ruling of the ECJ late in 2018.
An extension or delay to Article 50 requires agreement of the EU27.
Brussels has said previously it would countenance an extension for a constitutional purpose - e.g. an election - but would be unwilling to do so simply to delay the inevitable.

Weak retort just changing names. Also wrong as silly little england on its own won't prosper half as well as a United Kingdom on board with the modern globalising world. |

Democracy failed as soon as Cameron called a referendum on such an issue. And voter apathy now is so high with all parties that openly dumping Brexit would unite remainers. Especially as it is the obvious thing to do as it benefits the country. There isn't a single reason to leave the EU. No benefit at all. |

Not weak at all.....just showing that your responses have as little meaning and with as little substance as the opposite point of view.
I assume you actually believe that comment in your next resonse about it being undemocratic to give people a say?
Truly unbelievable that allowing a vote is undemocratic unless you don't agree with the result. |

It wasn't just England on its own that voted Leave though was it. A majority in Wales also voted Leave. |

Truth as I see it
In sways and sways of working class people wanted to leave
The business mans vote got abolished years ago the problem we have is we think rich business men know what there talking about they don’t just worrying about there pockets, there family’s and children don’t need to worry about poverty or the future of the grandkid.
Leaving the eu is mainly because of imagination I’m sure people don’t really care about trade deals they just wanna work
I and we all have said the English are lazy
It’s our fault for giving everything on a plate.
I’m not racist I just don’t ike the fact you can or could clam for benefits for you wife and god knows who else living miles away when I’m paying extreme tax rates.
I suppose the same as mps expense scandal not to long ago own own lol
Again it’s the rich that benefit from foreign labour
I work in the building trade I see an a regular basis the labour master of an Indian group abusing him physically Moden day slavery.
The supervisors think is funny
Why is that oh yeah cheap labour |

You need to look up the definition of democracy as you appear to have no idea what it means! All votes counted towards the end result and there was a large turn out, sounds very democratic to me. You just didn't like the end result and want to overturn it, now that's undemocratic! |

"

I really don't see how you come to that view point.
Democracy cannot fail by giving the voting public a democratic vote.
Democracy fails when the voting public are asked to vote and the result is ignored, that's failed democracy. |

The democratic decision may not be the best idea, it may well be very damaging to the Country but that potential damage has been democratically voted for. |

People don’t care about trade deals because they can’t see the direct link between them and working. Some of those in the motor industry may start caring.
But the “just want to week” point is slightly moot when we’re at low unemployment and have vacancies in the book. Sure, some will argue about supply and demand suppressing wages. But it’s complex. (If supply of jobs goes down, then pay will go down, all things being equal. If both supply and demand reduced it depends...)
I know it was a throwaway comment, but I can’t see the link between brexit and Indian labour. |
