From the 19th May 2019 all pensioners who have a partner of working age will have to claim universal credit rather than getting the pension they have paid into for a lifetime.
No doubt this is just the first of many brexit benefits we will soon be hearing about. However I am sure all those retirees who voted for brexit will happily sacrifice their pensions for the new blue passport. |

i am afraid OP... you have misinterpreted what is going to happen....
its revolves around pensioners and Pension Credit..... its a bit of a quirk that if effect is being rectified...
its because the minimum guarentee for a pensioner and the minimum guarentee for a work aged person are set at different levels.....
at the moment the award is based on the age of the Elder person
if you have a couple where one is receiving the state pension, and one is of working age, and they need help... at the moment they get a joint pension credit award, regardless of how old the person of working age is.... (so you could get someone who is 30/40/50 getting something that was designed for someone over 60)
what is going to now going to happen is they will get in effect get individual awards to reflect the different ages....
if both people are entitled to pension credit, whether of state pension or working age.... they will still get the full pension credit benefit...
hope that clears things up a bit....
