The man is deluded, surely.
Here we have another who cannot come to terms with the fact Britain "won" the war but "lost" the peace to Germany in post-war politics.
Who is he referring to when he says the "the world expects" the UK to now fulfil its post-1945 destiny of being a global military power?
I thought this man was immature. I now believe he is deluded, if not dangerous.
Does any subscribe to this nonsense?
I cannot see how the UK can ever come to terms with its true place in the world until people like this learn to move on from WW2.

The 1945 analogy may be apposite in one regard.
After pulling its forces back from Europe, a country wrecked and on its knees, shortages of everything.
A determination not to return to the awful deprivation and squalor of the late 1930s.
And a landslide for the most socialist government ever, determined to slay the five great evils of the time with the most radical programme of nationalisation.

I’m certain that I never posted that, it doesn’t sound like something I would say, and is not a reflection of my beliefs.
I’m being misrepresented here, I never served, was a cadet when I was a kid but things in the 1980’s led me to the building trade.
I am proud of the achievements of our brave lads and lasses in our forces. Even if our cretinous politicians do send them to fight and die in wars I don’t believe we should be involved in.
That is what I believe and I’m not being told otherwise by any twat online... |

Brexit is a disaster. We're not even out of the EU yet and we're seeing sharp falls in sterling. Britain is a small country on the fringes of Europe who think they are still centre stage in the world. Well we're not. We haven't been for a long time. If you think the EU is bad wait till we're out. We'll be over run by big US corporations. To get any trade deals with America we'll end up being controlled by American corporations. Privatisation of the NHS to American insurance firms, beef thats been injected with growth hormones, chemicals and GM food from Monsanto. The corporations will insist on being able to trade without limitation meaning everything will be up for sale and our government will be powerless. At least just now we have the protection in the EU by being part of one of the world's biggest trading powers. That will be lost. We'll be the whipping boy of every major power in the world. |

Really my property has gone up in value,and there are more people in work than ever before.Jobs go new ones are created that is an economic fact nothing to do with brexit.We also have the lowest unemployment in the EU |

Here we have another who cannot come to terms with the fact Britain "won" the war but "lost" the peace to Germany in post-war politics.
Who is he referring to when he says the "the world expects" the UK to now fulfil its post-1945 destiny of being a global military power?
I thought this man was immature. I now believe he is deluded, if not dangerous.
Does any subscribe to this nonsense?
I cannot see how the UK can ever come to terms with its true place in the world until people like this learn to move on from WW2.
If anyone wants to know why the rest of the world thinks we’re a laughingstock. This is a great example of the pro-Brexit rhetoric that they all find so funny. As would I, if I wasn’t going to be effected by it.I spend alot of time in spain and have many spanish friends and i can tell you from talking in my local bar it seems to me the average working man is not laughing at the uk they are jealous and wish they were leaving too.
Perhaps when we have actually left and severed ties such as the single market and customs union, the Spanish will see that it is possible in the real world and leave too. As might the Italians and even the French!
We could set up our own trading bloc in the future, of former EU nations with no political ties."

Fancy answering your my first question, pal? You know the one where you insinuated that the current Germany is like the one that lead the Axis powers in WW2?
FYI, I doubt anyone who wants the EU minus all the politics (what you are basically suggesting there) would leave.
Most of the fringe left and right parties in EU member states which are Eurosceptic or align that way, talk about leaving as a last resort, and that EU reform is more preferable. |

Productivity did actually increase in the UK in the last half of 2016, and into the early part of 2017, after the Leave vote. Was the biggest jump in productivity for many years. I even did a thread on here about it. |

Individual governments and people their own decisions in how to invest and develop.
Some did better than others. Poland didn't even see a recession after 2008.
Employment was growing before the referendum. The rate of change has leveled of but stayed on a similar trajectory.
GDP has, however, dropped significantly relative to before the referendum. So we would, as a country at least, be wealthier and there would have been even more jobs created over the same period.
Jobs have also been lost on a large scale. Look at retail and Jaguar Land Rover.
However, bear in mind that the global economy had a very unexpected period of synchronized growth from late 2016. Pure luck. This meant that our fall in GDP did not lead to recession.
The Bank of England spent £3.1bn of our money to mitigate the consequences of the referendum vote.
This is not "doom and gloom", it's just a realistic, dispassionate assessment of the information available.
The remain campaign exaggerated the immediate consequences of a vote to leave in line with the Conservative party election book.
The fact that things are worse but there was no diaster does not that everything predicted by that remain is untrue nor that anything that leave promised is true.
If you have an alternative please lay out your thoughts as a coherent narrative rather than quote individual pieces of data.

Productivity today is no higher than it was in 2008. It is stagnant. |
