Divided by votes and how well each side can manage to protest in the streets.....

The other 95% of the population are trying to get on with it.... There is no real division today.... The vast majority of people just want to crack on.

It's not a civil war for goodness sake

I don't think it is Brexit that divides Britain - it is inequality. Brexit is just a symptom of that.

The fact of the matter is, those that didn't get what they voted for can bleat all they like, that's democracy for you.

People can say what they like about Cameron, hat off to him, being a Remainer he resigned because he felt he could not deliver what the country had voted for. What should have happened is he should have been replaced by a Brexiteer as at least they had the commitment to the "cause".

However, we are where we are, we will get to where we end up, the country will survive and move forward

Divided and conquered we shall be.

Ensure my European Citizenship rights are retained, or give me a factual, legally binding replacement that gives me the equal ability to self determination. Then I’ve no problem with anything or anyone.

All that business, trade, regulations stuff will just be piddle about with anyway so that some rich guys gets richer and some rich guys don’t. They all stay rich.

Take my rights and give me your “beliefs” is only going one way. We all know where “beliefs” get you eventually.

Bleating about people fighting for their rights cos it irritates you, threatening insurrection if their rights aren’t taken away, is not exactly open arms is it?

So yeah. Divided we are and it’s getting wider.

Weather you were in or out, the people voted. Whatever happens, the country will adjust and move on. My kids will grow and work within whatever happens. We will just change, it's always been this way.

But, my belief is how this has highlighted our politicians, how it has shown that the desire to score points against the other, the desire to add a strap line to their rhetoric. The people, the country come second.

We as a nation need to trust loom at who and why we vote. Our politicians need to change their way of doing politics.

Point scoring helps no one, only gets you a 5min slot on radio 4.

The country, the communities, the people should always come first, always

Sad part is the people who lied about how good it would be to leave were doing so for their own ends and truly expected to lose. Then put in positions to assist leaving and ran away!

When all major party leaders are in agreement to stay and UKIP are wanting to leave, us president BO advised us to stay, you gotta think staying was the better option. Plus...why not have another vote now the people who voted out realise they were lied to ???

Out of interest, can someone remind me when being in Europe protected us from several recessions? Over priced travel? More expensive products? Basically can someone remind me when Europe was a Utopia because it certainly wasn't and this fear mongering is unproven bullshit. The EU has shown so much contempt for the UK, they were offered a chance to be more flexible before the vote was to take the place but they proved and have continued to prove that they're not interested in a democratic union and have completely caused this and the vote by themselves. The ridiculousness of some of Scotland wanting to break away from one union and join another one is amusing too

Realise you don't want a reminder but there was Jo Cox MP. I think there's a real ill sentiment both from the far left and right (see EDL, see reaction to Kensington Council, threats to life on May and Corbyn), that all surround national policy which if pushed could easily turn into localised riots. Once prices go up and unions start co-ordinated strikes, a sense of identity gets easily lost.

Central

The division that was fomented, largely intitially by the opposing politicians in either camp, was predictable and didn't get reigned in appropriately. There was hatred that was stirred up, which was latterly projected onto foreigners in the UK, who met with severe violence and anger from citizens. It was completely abhorrent and yet the brexit camp that played on peoples' fears stoked it - scare tactics of out of control immigration; worse to come with millions coming if Turkey joined the EU; using posters of refugees fleeing war zones, with the promise of these people coming to you - these were but a selection of images and stories that were told as if fact.

When peoples' most base fears are cultivated against others, it creates a divided state. This is even more so when people have endured tough times, such as from stagnating income levels, benefit freezes for years that in effect cut the income that millions needed, when services are depleted, following cuts to local budgets by the conservative government, shortages of somewhere to live with security of tenure. Such conditions are akin to brainwashing, where essential security issues are degraded, emotional persuasion and targeted emotion at other groups, support the adoption of extreme views, potentially very different to what they'd normally associate with.

Ultimately the conservatives continued aspects of their commonly used technique of divide and conquer, where misdirection of malign intent is shifted inwards, within the population - people divide and shift their negativity towards each other - typically instead of it being directed at those in charge, who have failed in their obligations to deliver government and service levels at suitable levels.

The division was thus orchestrated and magnified by those in charge. It clashed leavers and remainers with each other as well as many against 'others', who were essentially non UK citizens. It is the responsibility of government to heal such division but it won't be achieved by striking an EU deal that parliament votes for. Obviously it would also require motivation to do so and the current no-hopers in May's cabinet (possibly one of the worst governments in living memory) are almost certainly not the type of people who care or who would have the mindset to achieve anything.

The UK certainly will undergo great further great stresses, if it undergoes leaving the EU. It's likely that the economy will suffer, with individuals and regions facing declines, which will likely result in greater potential stress fractures. Implementing great changes also creates potential foundations for others too. We can expect there will be greater friction between the nation states and possibly with the Irish Republic too imo.

I've forgotten what Shag's post was now, other than it was upon division.

Interesting site.

On another thread where someone was saying that the government "should deliver Brexit" I pointed out that it they couldn't deliver the impossible. What if we had a referendum to cut taxes and double spending then demanded that the government delivered.

It seems that was what was promised by Brexit. Imagine if we spent the money "saved" from being sent to the EU 20 times? We'd have everything we want

If anyone “believes” anything pushed out through this sorry mess and acts solely upon those “beliefs” ... can’t be much hope for anything.

40 years of economic growth??? It's funny how remoaners try to rewrite history to suit their pro EU agenda. We never had 40 years of economic growth in the EU, did you forget about the recessions (plural) we had over the last 40 years, are are you deliberately out to tell lies and spread bullshit here. "

Hilarious.

Are you saying that leaving the EU will prevent recessions?

I certainly didn't even imply that being in the EU would.

The thing about the capitalist economy as it currently runs is that we lurch from boom to bust in a repeating cycle. However, if your internal market is large then you can better ride out the booms because you have far more people to sell to.

Please give me your alternative facts

"Plenty o countries are not in it and do fine

We are the 5th richest country in the world

I've listened to radio chat programmes explaining all the major positives and huge financial gain for our country and people being out of the EU

Once your hear all these they totally out weight staying in .

I'm still brexit all the way .

What financial gains? 8% reduction in economy. At best. Even JRM conceded it'll take 50 years to recover!

I'm still waiting for the easy trade deals we were promised, especially as leaving the EU will tear up many of the good ones, and these clowns think they'll get better deals somehow?

You do realise we can't actually sign any new trade deals until we've left the EU. We still haven't left yet because the article 50 leaving process takes 2 years.

we were also promised no economic issues, believe that ant there's no hope for you. A few of the other promises leave made:

https://www.voteleavewatch.org.uk/leave_campaigners_try_to_drop_their_false_promises

What about the things remain said would happen if the country voted Leave then. A 'deep and immediate recession', a drop in house prices, 500,000 job losses, and plagues of locusts sweeping over the land, blah, blah, blah, and all other manner of bullshit, none of which happened. If you believed all that then there's no hope for you. "

The vote, very happily for us, coincided with a coordinated global boom. Go and look it up.

We managed to keep growing but we did far worse than we would have done without the referendum.

Go and find some graphs and tables and words and try to understand them

People can say what they like about Cameron, hat off to him, being a Remainer he resigned because he felt he could not deliver what the country had voted for. What should have happened is he should have been replaced by a Brexiteer as at least they had the commitment to the "cause".

However, we are where we are, we will get to where we end up, the country will survive and move forward"

Remainer colours nailed to the mast there .. and if everything goes well, ship all Remainers out the country over to Europe?"

That's the way they are I’m afraid, bitter and twisted because they lost a referendum.

Thing is there is a downturn, it’s happening all over the world, not just here, and not specifically because of BREXIT. Which as you rightly pointed out, hasn’t happened yet. In any case we can expect teething problems to start with when we do leave, the remoaners will think it is Christmas all over again...

As far as I see, remainers have certainly been disappointed but it's Leavers who remain angry. The most bitter name calling is by leavers about remainers. Look what you write.

UK growth dropped from top of the G7 to bottom immediately after the referendum. Just go and look. Stop denying reality. That put us in a weaker position now that a global downturn has arrived.

You have still failed to list these "teething problems". What will they be? Who will they effect? How long will they last? What will the actual benefit be?

As soon as you actually have to define anything leavers vanish. Vague promises you're all over

All this post does is show your lack of understanding of the situation.

The Daily Mail and the Express promote this idea of uncertainty, we don’t know what will happen.

What they are twisting is, we know it will be bad for the country, for a very long time. We don’t know exactly how bad and for how long.

The most optimistic economic predictions say that we will be much worse off for at least 5-10 years.

So yeah, you can believe the “we don’t know what will happen line”. But it has a more specific meaning.

Besides why were you all so keen to vote for something when you don’t know the outcome.

The point you are ignoring or trying to distract and avoid is that we have since the time we joined had growth and during the period also had recessions, slumps etc in that growth..

It does not mean that the long term trend in the economy was downward does it?

To use the USA Post ww2 as an example may help you in understanding that within periods of growth there will be given the system we have times when growth pauses..

But the overall economy is still growing..

Hurrrah, let’s play semantics.

Did he mean 40 years of growth overall. Or 40 years straight of year on year growth? And is that calendar years or can we pick any 365 day period?

Does having a recession prove the statement wrong given a recession is two quarters of negative growth. We “could” have had two qs of negative offset by two as of positives.

(I know there have been years which have shown negatives eg 2009. I’m just being an arse in line with this thread).

Another attempt at a micro-victory. Bless you for trying though

There is no uninterrupted growth anywhere in the world. That is how capitalism tends to work. It doesn't have to bit people are greedy so we het boom and bust.

However, the bigger the market you can sell to without barriers and the larger the diversity of suppliers in that market the better off everyone is.

This means that the troughs in the cycle are evened out.

If you would like to look at a chart (although data is not your friend) you can find our GDP at start and at end compared to every country in the world and the EU.

We have had 40 years of economic growth. 2008 alone has created a genuine reversal.

You are wilfully ignorant which is far worse than just not understanding.

I think this all answers the original exam question ... people will always disagree.

The petty back biting and point scoring is ridiculous.

What no one knows is what would have happened if we weren't in the EU for 40 years any more than anyone knowing what will happen in the next 40 years.

The global trend will always be upward as we exploit our natural resources ... develop technology etc etc

1. We voted leave ... by a narrow margin

2. But sides bent the truth on the campaign

3. We don't know what will happen over the next few years

4. We don't know if we would have been punished somehow by the EU to even think about leaving if We had voted to stay

5. Every divorce ends in a period of difficulty for both parties whilst they rebuild their lives and move on

Do we know that with absolute certainty? Do we know it will be a direct response to leaving?

There is a general global downturn currently ... look what has happened to all the markets

And it has to be a simplification ... We know nothing of the future with absolute certainty!!

My degree isn't in economics so I wouldn't want to attempt to go into detail based on the scaremongering on the press evidence ... or political back biting

Number 3 is not true. We know it will be bad, what we don’t know, is how bad and for how longs

Saying “we don’t know what will happen over the next few years”, is an oversimplification."

We absolutely know what no deal would mean .We know it will be grim and severely disruptive and costly to the economy .Thats the view of brexiters in goverment the remainers think it will be far far worse...

"I think this all answers the original exam question ... people will always disagree.

Which is sort of my point. Take away the rights of all the people this country, half of which don’t want to lose them. Millions of your countrymen. For something nobody can know.

It’s divisive to take things from people.

As for 4 ... the EU isn’t a separate entity, we are part of it, like an individual is part of a nation. We made most of the rules and input to all of them. We are the EU. It’s right hand if you like.

It’s not a divorce it’s an amputation.

"Do we know that with absolute certainty? Do we know it will be a direct response to leaving?

There is a general global downturn currently ... look what has happened to all the markets

And it has to be a simplification ... We know nothing of the future with absolute certainty!!

My degree isn't in economics so I wouldn't want to attempt to go into detail based on the scaremongering on the press evidence ... or political back biting"

It is just common sense isn’t it?

If you make big changes to your life without planning and preparing for them then those changes will cause problems until you adapt.

Imagine that you decide to leave your job, sell your car and your house and move to the other side of the country without actually planning it - do you think it will go well without looking for a new job, how you will commute and how the local property market is?

For the record, its Less than half, as only 48% voted remain.

Besides your argument can be turned on its head, in that a fair percentage of the country were taken into the EU in the first place against their will. Millions of your countrymen voted not to join in the first place.

It's divisive to take people into things of which they don't want to be a part.

Point 4. The EU is a separate entity. It is a foreign body which we are now thankfully leaving. We have never been comfortable bedfellows with the EU and it has always been that way. All along we've pushed back at integrating with it, we've opted out of the Schengen and the Euro, and now we've democratically opted out of it altogether.

"Not much we can do at this point anyway, May is making sure of that, we just hope that when things take a down turn the pro-Brexit voters will be the first to lose their jobs/benefits as it's only fair right?

WTF??

Remainer colours nailed to the mast there .. and if everything goes well, ship all Remainers out the country over to Europe?

Nobody can define anything with any accuracy, BREXIT hasn’t happened yet, and none of us can see into the future. So it is all speculation, but then so is your scaremongering.

There will be teething problems though, that is fact, as when changes are made there always is. I am not about to guess what they will be specifically, remoaners will guess and attempt to convince everyone their guesses are fact. I’m just happy that whatever our fate is, it will be in our hands.

So first you say my post shows my “lack of understanding,” and then you quantify your condescending remark with a load of crap about “predictions,” and stuff about what was written in the gutter press.

If we want to get into the numbers, it's more 33% of the country voted Remain, 34% voted Leave, 33% didn't bother to vote but spoke up after.

Besides, if Brexit is the will of the people, why are you scared to hold the vote again? If you're that confident surely it means Brexit will easily win again right? Or do you know deep down it just barely passed and want to cling to that?

Considering how drastic this is don't you want to know the result of the additional third of the country? And what people think now that they know more? Or how about what people think AFTER seeing how all pro-Brexiters just upped and left with the money? Or even how it was revealed the Russians had a hand in pushing our media to Brexit and how May refuses to acknowledge that because she wants to cling to power?

Or let's put it this way, you're on a night out with a group of people, when it comes to ordering food, 3 of you say steak, 3 of you say whatever you're not bothered and 4 of you jokingly say fresh shit. You wouldn't want a do over then? You'd happily eat shit for the will of the people?

Face it, you're just scared because you know Remain would win by much bigger numbers this time.

Oh come on. Don’t fall back on that. Nearly half then.

37% of the electorate, 26% of the population - 17.4 Million people - deciding the rights of everyone in the country - 66.5 Million people and everyone yet to come - is not a place to look down from. Round it up or down it’s a divided nation, so half want their rights, half don’t. My conjecture at the percentage would be different, but I don’t like conjecture. Why don’t we have another vote and see what it stands at after all these many months?

That’s democracy after all.

67% to 33% like in 1974 and you would not hear a word from me either way.

It’s not exactly divisive to give people more rights if they don’t want them, as they just don’t have to use them.

If you believe the EU is a foreign entity, I’m not going to convince you otherwise, because it’s your “belief”.

Fact is - it isn’t.

But currently it will be come April. Against mine and *nearly* half the populations will.

Almost everyone from the more authoritarian and monotheistic and monoracial side of the political spectrum always seem to start trying to make some sort of "rational" and "logical" argument.

Eventually we always end up here.

Anger and hatred and increasingly open racism.

Brexiteers aren't even British. They're just "English" it seems.

Tiny dreams and ambitions.

Through all this they accuse everyone else of being negative and bitter.

No doubt they will then say that they were "only joking".

Wow

"Was brexit worth the devide and could they ever be united? .

Yes it took a catalyst the magnitude of Brexit to finally unite the sons of Englishmen, now it's just a matter of time before we finally defeat the liberal globalists and have our home back."

What does this mean and how do you plan to go about it?

The conceit of our rights being stolen from us will not be forgotten. Nor who stole them. This is a terrible seed. I think it’s the fundament of a new sectarianism.

Pointless just “thinking” things. Always someone who will argue to the death with you as they “think” differently.

We all have to look and speak about this with knowledge and fact. Else we divide.

"It’s like some public schoolboys watched too many Sissy-Hypnos and hit on the idea to get those Aristocratic Alpha Elites back on top.

Serf-Hypnos.

Putting the people back where they belong.

Throw in simple lines of rhetoric; Control Our Borders! Corrupt EU! Migrant Crisis! Beurocracy! Blah, blah, blah.

Worked well for them didn’t it.

At it again already, petrified we might have another vote!

We are the bloody EU.

What are our rights worth? We don’t live in a free society, we are governed. We, the people, are a Nation as the sum of our rights. So we lessen them? How is that greater? Where’s the balance?

The Aristocratic Alpha elites wanted to remain, you don't get much more Aristocratic Alpha elite than David Cameron and George Osborne. "

"Was brexit worth the devide and could they ever be united? .

Yes it took a catalyst the magnitude of Brexit to finally unite the sons of Englishmen, now it's just a matter of time before we finally defeat the liberal globalists and have our home back.

This guy should be all the evidence needed that we should never have another referendum ever again, on any subject. .

Last time I looked this is a nation called England it should be ruled by Englishmen(or Englishwomen) from England.

You have your own globalist agenda and we have ours.

It's interesting.

Wow .

I'm far from joking, I'm a proud white ethno nationalist,I don't hate others I don't wish other nations harm, I recognize that our past leaders have not had either English people or other nations peoples best interests at heart, there globalists with their own agenda but it's never been the interests of the majority of English people.

What does this entail, what ate your goals as a white ethno national ?.

Were 15% of the world population and within 2 generations that's set to drop to 6%, we simply want a white nation for whites, no different than a Jewish state for Jews (Israel) or a black state for Blacks or an Islamic state for Islamists, we don't hate anybody or wish any nation harm but we do realise that were all different and want different things.

Where do you intend to set up this white nation? Which bit of my country are you going to annex?.

We don't need to annex anybody England is and always was a white state we just want to promote whiteness as a normality within our own white country.

Name another country in Europe that isn't majority white!"

.

Who gives a fuck I don't live in Europe, I live in England and I'm English
