"What's he doing about knife crime? Apart from failing young Londoners?" Why would you blame Sadiq Khan for the growth in violent crime in London when it is a nationwide problem caused by eight and a half years of Tory cuts to central government support of local government and therefore social cohesion to fund tax give-aways to mega rich individuals and corporations? Or have you forgotten that the first thing to be cut by the Tories ideological austerity was the Home Office police budget (which has forced the Met to shed approximately 10% of its full time officers and over 50% of its part time 'specials' since 2010)? Just asking, and while I am at it do you always victim blame or is that something you reserve for this forum?

"What's he doing about knife crime? Apart from failing young Londoners?" Rather than tackle knife crime he's been looking for buyers for water cannons.

"From the London Assembly website: "Here’s what the Mayor is doing: Boosting police power A new Violent Crime Task Force of 272 officers has been created using additional funding from City Hall announced by the Mayor in February. The £15 million task force will focus solely on violent crime, weapon-enabled crime and serious criminality Since being launched in April, the taskforce has made 2,096 arrests, seized 475 knives and recovered 348 offensive weapons, including 165 firearms The Met Police has introduced patrols using targeted stop and search for areas worst-affected by knife crime. We have seen an increase in weapons-focused stop and searches of 13,548 up to June 2018 - an increase of almost 20 per cent The Mayor is protecting the number of frontline police officers on London’s streets by investing an additional £140 million in the Met Police City Hall is paying a greater percentage of the overall police budget in the capital than ever before - up from 18 per cent in 2010 to 23 per cent now Preventing future violence In February, the Mayor created the £45 million Young Londoners Fund to help steer young people away from violent crime and in March set out the first £5 million of funding To help young Londoners and their parents find positive activities for the summer holidays and beyond, the Mayor launched the new interactive #ourLDN map in August 2018 Our Stepping Stones programme, supporting at-risk young people in their transition from primary to secondary school, has been expanded to 15 schools, helping 2,100 vulnerable young Londoners Knife wands are now available for every school in London to help keep young people safe, with 200 schools so far taking up the offer The widely shared London Needs You Alive campaign, viewed over 4 million times, brings together role models and youth influencers to send a positive message to young people - that they shouldn’t put their lives at risk by carrying a knife. The campaign recently expanded to engage community groups, faith groups and schools with a new educational toolkit The Mayor’s granted £7 million to projects to combat youth violence across London and £250,000 to community groups and grassroots initiatives The Mayor is working to bring in more Safer Schools Officers to help to drive down knife crime in schools The Mayor is investing £1.4 million to continue to provide youth workers in Major Trauma Centres, and place more youth workers in hospital A&E departments, to help steer young Londoners who have been involved in knife crime away from violence in the future Deputy Mayor for Policing, Sophie Linden, and the Metropolitan Police Commissioner, Cressida Dick, visited Scotland to learn about the successful public health approach deployed in Glasgow, which saw a massive decline in violent crime over a decade. The Mayor has already incorporated elements of a public health approach in his Knife Crime Strategy We are working with the MPS, Trading Standards and retailers to stop knives getting into the hands of underage Londoners. We are supporting and promoting the National Business Crime Centre’s Top Ten Tips for preventing the underage sale and theft of knives to all London retailers Tackling gang violence The Mayor is investing £2 million in London Gang Exit services to support young people at risk of or engaged in serious violence and help them into employment, education or training City Hall works with the police, charities and councils on two programmes aimed at ending and preventing gang violence and exploitation, working with victims and young people at risk Action plans under way The Mayor has published a new Knife Crime Strategy - a package of tough and comprehensive measures to tackle knife crime, taking in views from bereaved families and victims. It was the first by a London Mayor The Mayor has announced plans for a new Violence Reduction Unit. Building on existing partnerships, it will bring together specialists to work together to reduce violence in the capital by taking a public health approach He hosted an Education Knife Crime Summit in 2016, bringing together Ofsted, educators, the Met and families to work on anti-knife crime education in schools Every London borough now has its own knife crime action plan to tackle violence locally, created in partnership with the Met Bringing people together to take action In April, the Mayor invited the Home Secretary, London MPs, council leaders and Assembly Members from across London to a City Hall summit about tackling violent crime on the city’s streets In June 2018, the Mayor convened a knife crime summit, involving leaders of every London borough to discuss and share best practice on knife crime action plans. Later that month the Mayor, together with Deputy Mayors Sophie Linden and Matthew Ryder, welcomed more than 150 people, community groups and other organisations to City Hall to hear first-hand how best to tackle the root causes of serious youth violence"" But despite the words, what is he doing......and why isn't it working?
"So maybe he is doing something, it's just that it's not a sexy story for the media to report... Yeah, i expect his press team forgot to tell them..." Any thoughts on the list of things that he's doing?
" But despite the words, what is he doing......and why isn't it working?" What do you mean, 'despite the words'? The quoted text literally describes what he's doing, from more police to youth outreach.

"So maybe he is doing something, it's just that it's not a sexy story for the media to report..." Indeed. Glasgow had a serious problem 20 years ago. They developed a plan to attack it from every direction - the police, the criminal justice system, prisons, schools, NHS, community education and so on. No one agency had the answer but collectively they began to push it backwards. Not cured yet, but a heck of a lot less violent than it ever used to be. London has been talking to Glasgow. Every city's culture is different, so you need local knowledge to tune the response. But the principles are clear.

A lot of this work is recent and/or ongoing. It's totally fair to expect results, but perhaps not so fair to expect a complex problem to be resolved in a short time frame. We'll have to see what happens next.

He actually said he doesn't think it would work in London as it's totally different than Glasgow.
"Victim blame !!!!! Just to clarify its no ones fault but the Conservatives then " Well lets see... Tories form a government and take £20 BILLION from NHS and shortly afterwards the NHS starts failing. Who could be at fault? Tory led government slashes central government local authority grants, and block local authorities raising more funds through local taxes. 8 years later, local authorities are going bust and roads are falling to bits. Who could be to blame? Tory led government cut police funding causing every force in the country to have to cut over 30,000 front line police posts nationwide, resulting in total destruction of virtually all proactive policing and the rationing of reactive policing to only the most serious of crimes. 8 years on we have an explosion in violent and acquisitive violent crime nationwide and chief police officers issuing warnings that they can no longer guarantee that their forces will be able to keep the peace. Who could be responsible? We have had a Tory government for the last 8 1/2 years that has cut NHS, police and local authority budgets annually. So yes its the Tories fault and no one else shares any of the blame for the consequences of their fiscal policies.

"So maybe he is doing something, it's just that it's not a sexy story for the media to report... Yeah, i expect his press team forgot to tell them... Any thoughts on the list of things that he's doing? " Aye it's not working.
"So how will the labour party increase the number of frontline police without scaring away it's new breed of snowflake voter?" Clem, you really are idiotic at times. You ask a loaded question that has no factual basis. Then when fact-checked you counter by making stuff up to give some semblance of credence to your original question. Which was nothing more than a piss poor attempt to abrogate Tory responsibility for the shitty state of policing in this country. Which is solely due to fiscal mismanagement of UK PLC (as the Tories like to refer to the economy) by this Tory government. And before you attempt to counter what I have said remember it takes a very special kind of stupid to make cuts to save money that cost more to make than they save. Further when those cuts are to the support offered to the most vulnerable in society then we move from plain stupid to vindictively stupid. And that is what you are now indirectly defending, Clem. Do you really want to be doing that? Clem.

"So how will the labour party increase the number of frontline police without scaring away it's new breed of snowflake voter?" Maybe they can put Diane Abbott on the radio again so she can make a complete twat of herself while dreaming up some random police numbers from the top of her head like she did last time.

I can't imagine why that would be.

"What's he doing about knife crime? Apart from failing young Londoners?" What has anyone done about knife crime? It's been an issue for over a decade. I used to remember the knife amnesty. The difference is that they are now reporting them in the national news. Ten years ago I never saw it televised. Seven years ago there were still 30,000+ knife crimes in London. Yes it's higher now. But it's higher in the whole country.
"What's he doing about knife crime? Apart from failing young Londoners?" Khan corbyn and abbot. Khan can't technicly be a traitor because his loyalty will always be to Islam and not Britain. Abbot is British but she's too stupid to be aware of anything. Corbyn is chief traitor Marxist scum.

"Make it legal for me to shoot dead anyone who comes at me to rob me or attack me." How has that policy worked out for the USA? Do you know that most illegal firearms were once legal held firearms but that they are stolen in violent home invasions? Have you any idea how many are killed and injured each year in the USA through negligent discharges where children get hold of unsecured firearms? Have you any idea how may spouses are shot by their partners in the heat of the moment during domestic disputes? Do you understand that if firearms are commonplace then criminals carrying firearms will also become commonplace, which will in turn require that police carry firearms. Do you really want criminals carrying firearms and frightened police reaching for guns every time a suspect makes a suspicious move or they see a gun or they visit a house where there may be a gun (and that would be every house in the country).

"That escalated quickly. " Plus when was this a left wing country? If May is left wing then I think you need to adjust your compass.
"Stop knife crime by giving honest citizens the right to bare arms and self defence. Make it legal for me to shoot dead anyone who comes at me to rob me or attack me. No more left wing lodgic runing our country. We don't really have freedom if we aren't allowed to defend ourselves. "Knife amensty" is bizzarley stupid. Just put a bullet into the criminals brain and instead of appeasing the scumbag family we should shame them. Deportations for all criminals who were born in other countries. Strip them of passports and throw them back into the desert where they came from as filthy begging refugees. If they are British and not sentenced to death they should get the same prison conditions as Thai prisoners 80 to a cell. Tax money shouldn't be wasted on human fecese like criminals. " Well I’m all in favour of arming this guy and letting him shoot and kill punters whenever he feels like it. Kind of like a less accountable Judge Dread.
