David Davis again makes a statement that is simply jaw dropping. Remember that this guy was Brexit Secretary for TWO YEARS. He knew little about the subject matter when he was appointed, he clearly learned nothing in his tenure and now he says this...
"If we need to leave with no deal and negotiate a free trade agreement during the transition period, so be it. Let's be clear and honest and tell the EU that's what we are prepared to do." |

Davis - someone who thinks he can persuade 27 European states to give him everything on his wish-list, but cannot persuade 48 of his friends to send a letter. Kinda says it all, really.

The guy was Brexit secretary for 2 years, as you pointed out, so I'm guessing he knows his way around the subject.
I'm also guessing that, if he made that statement, it was based on the situation as he sees it, and he's probably privy to a lot more info than Joe Bloggs.
So, care to provide evidence to support your claim that he doesn't know what he's on about? |

Well... As I am sure that you know the term “no deal” means ... “no deal”
I can’t actually tell you what “no deal” includes because it doesn’t include anything because it is “no deal.”
It would therefore be somewhat difficult for “no deal” to actually mean “some deal” or “part deal” that includes a transition. That would be like saying we are leaving and we are not prepared to negotiate anything (no deal) but we will actually be staying for two years as well after we storm off without a deal to allow us to stay for another two years.
Remember, this guy has form for being what a former colleague called “thick as mince.” He anticipated Theresa May concluding close on 100 free trade deals by September of 2016 (yes - the September after the referendum).
These are the absolute clowns on whom we are supposed to entrust our future and this guy even wants to put himself forwards as a replacement for Theresa May. |

The concept of a transition period has been covered at quite some depth in the media, including from around the first stage of the negotiations completed in December 2017.
The NO Deal problems have been discussed in the forum, highlighting many of the issues that could immediately be imposed on each of us, if the UK just walks away, such as having no transition period, allowing all parties to achieve a smoother end point, where the UK would be out of the EU. It also means that UK businesses will have a tougher a life doing business in the EU. |

"No Deal" means that we start trading under WTO rules.... and the EU will have to deal with that. There would be friction in both directions, but ultimately the EU would trade with us, they need our custom, as we need theirs. The "Project Fear" rumours about various things like needing visas for every country if you travelled across Europe, different insurances and licences, planes not allowed to fly, ports closed, and many others, have been slowly chipped away.
The EU stated that the UK would be "punished" for daring to want to leave, and it would be a "deliberately painful and expensive" lesson for us, not the language of a group who were interested in doing a mutually beneficial deal.
IMHO we should have pulled up the drawbridge right there and then and told them to shove it where the sun don't shine, you cant negotiate with a bunch of politicians who have a vested interest in keeping the status quo going, they know if we make any form of a success of leaving we wont be the only ones bailing out of the sinking ship. |

As a matter of interest. What has anything that you have said got to do with David Davis?
I get it that you would want to try to deflect the story away from yet another Brexit leg-end who shows themselves to be a half-wit dingbat but this was a fairly crass attempt.
What is your opinion about David Davis - ex Brexit Secretary and Prime Minister in waiting, not understanding the concept of “no deal”?
