You could take his speech, replace "referees" with "Theresa May" and it would be spot on

Did you feel sorry for CM Punk/Phil Brooks when he decided to have a go at fighting in the UFC and got his face rearranged? Brexit, like MMA, is not something you just have a go at when you're clearly not cut out for the job.

I guess the good old British public thought with all the money we were chucking at the EU , bailing out Greece etc..... that we would be better off using the said money for our own ailing NHS . And yes , think the majority if leavers thought it would be that simple .

Fact is there are so many what ifs and but this and but that , borders , etc.... that we all knew nothing about . And after all the years of austerity the money we save by leaving isn’t really going to make any difference at all .

She was on a hiding to nothing trying to sort this mess out . Of course we aren’t happy , the leavers hate her appeased leaving document , the remainders hate it , and the ambivalent hate it too . She couldn’t win , and when the guy she employed to come up with the exit strategy quits when it’s done saying he can’t be held accountable for such a debarcle , you know we are fucked .

Why has no one said to the EU, you won’t be allowed to trade with us.

It will hurt them just as much as it will the UK.

Like everything EU it will come to a corrupt deal.

Why do you think the EU has its HQ in Brussels?

The least influential country when it all began.

The Germans chose to put it there so they can keep control.

Why won’t they sell cars? Japanese have been selling for years without being in the EU.

"When there was a vote to leave or stay I was a leaver. Now I want us to stay or at least have free movement. I'm going backpacking next year around Europe. Think they said the rules and regs won't actually change until 2021?

Are your brexit views based on a back packing holiday

It is now yeah and it's not a holiday I'm going to live abroad. There's no time limit I'm just going to France and see what happens. Work as I go. I don't plan to come back to UK. I plan to do the World. At least I got 2 years to do Europe

What if we get no deal Rhys? We all know parliament is going to vote against this deal so it’s a no deal brexit.. what would you do then?

Why has no one said to the EU, you won’t be allowed to trade with us.

It will hurt them just as much as it will the UK.

Like everything EU it will come to a corrupt deal.

They want to stop us so the rest don’t follow suit.

But the other 26 countries can trade with each other and all the deals they have signed with the rest of the world.. it’s going to hurt the UK more.

I agree they want to make an example so other countries don’t get any ideas

Why do you think the EU has its HQ in Brussels?

The least influential country when it all began.

If they don’t have a trade deal that allows them to sell their products or import them into the Uk of course.

And who is at the top at JLR at the moment.

Think he may be thinking, I may lose my job here.

Feed the fear, that’s all they are doing.

Our friends,,,, across the water have short memories.

During the Second World War millions of British, Commonwealth and allies were killed freeing Europe,, not Britain. In the late 40's Britain borrowed over 120 billion,,,,, to fund the war to free Europe, that loan was paid back, which took over 60 years,, by the British tax payers,, no one else.

Maybe EU should contribute towards that before we pay our bar bill !

yeah.... because the UK hasonly been getting a rebate on their EU conributions since.... erm...1985!!!!

the "rebate" we get this years is almost 5 billion pounds!!!

sometimes i wish people would know some fact before they write jingoistic and nationalist bullshit!!!

if you want to know how much in terms of GDP for the nation it costs you to be part of the EU... it's 0.5%

which means we spend 99.5% of everything else non EU related...

A fair point too.

Love her or loathe her Maggie would’ve had this done and dusted 18 months ago. We’ve a weak, low-majority party in office, all backstabbing and jockeying for positions of power of their own personal agendas. A characterless, spineless leader carrying a poisoned chalice of Brexit, which she herself was against, and a bitter, divided nation. We’re a laughing-stock globally as it stands.

We need a leader, a good one and I’m sad to say I don’t see one, in any of the parties.

May's deal delivers as close a Brexit as I think is possible at this time.

No deal throws everything in the air including NI border with no plan as to how anything will work out

No Brexit, stay as we are

So,

No Brexit = no risk

May's deal = low to medium risk

No deal = high risk

It's so complicated to leave because the EU, over many years, have manipulated new laws on us that have made it that way. Then billed us shit loads of money every year for more bollocks rulings to follow next year.

EU directives are the scourge of business

Pull out with no deal - they'll soon fall into disarray and we'll survive. Poland and Hungary are already telling them to fuck off

Your argument is flawed!

The reason and only reason it's difficult for us is the GFA. Without that it would have been easier! It's not about New laws - A50 has always been there - written by a Brit by the way! Poland and Hungary both takers not givers will soon realise their mistakes (well the people will - not the right wing leaders). I do think the EU will start action against both countries - Poland first, and just watch the multinational companies leave and the Russians move close to the border.

We've not broken any contract and we're leaving the EU legally. Article 50 was written into the EU treaties, it's a legal mechanism that allows countries to leave legally. We've followed the rules of the contract and triggered article 50 which is our legal right under the EU treaties. So we leave in March with or without a deal legally.

In reply I'll point out that the high priests of brexit are continually making public statements both inside and outside Parliament calling for us to do that very thing. Even suggesting that if brexit causes a return of a 30 year violent insurrection in NI that is a small price to pay for brexit.

Well I had a very interesting conversation with a friend in the pub last night who knows Aaron Banks professionally and had a phone conversation this week with him. Mr Banks brought up Brexit (my friend was avoiding the subject) and said two quite astonishing things. 1. If he had realised what was going to happen he would never have bankrolled the Leave campaign. 2. Given the choice he would vote remain now. I have known my friend for 15 years and his job brings him into contact with many very high profile people so I trust what he tells me implicitly. I wonder if that will alter your viewpoint at all Centy?

I think your friend is full of shit, has spun you a line and he heard it on the BBC Andrew Marr show. Aaron Banks said this on his recent appearance on the Andrew Marr show a couple of weeks ago and differs somewhat to the version 'your friend' came out with. Aaron Banks said on the Andrew Marr show that looking back now at the demons the referendum released and the subsequent corruption in government and attempts by the establishment and media to subvert democracy has been appalling and he may now wished we had remained. It's on the BBC iplayer if you want to watch it.

i am guessing mr banks probably realised that is it not a wise position for his "isle of man" business..... plus the amount of money he now can't move around the EU because of removal of "financial services passports"......

that and the whole "overspending and possibly getting the money via russian sources" thing........

Just what I expected from you centy.

Dogmatic to the point of becoming irrational. “My friend” knows what he is talking about and has known Mr Banks personally for a number of years so don’t try and belittle me or him because the information doesn’t conform with your world view. Man up and accept that life is fluid and that given the way that Brexit is heading It’s just possible that one of the main instigators of the scheme is now having second thoughts. I’m not saying he has had a conversion but I am saying he has regrets.

FFS it was on the television! The information doesn't have to conform with my world view, Aaron Banks did the interview on the BBC Andrew Marr show for the whole world to see and I just quoted what he said publicly (not what your imaginary friend may or may not have heard in private). As I said if you're in any doubt go and watch the interview yourself on the BBC iplayer , it's freely available to anyone with a television licence.

“The corruption I have seen in British politics, the sewer that exists, and the disgraceful behaviour of the Government over what they are doing with Brexit and how they are selling it out means that if I had my time again I think we would have been better to probably Remain and not unleash these demons.”

It sounds like he is saying he would vote remain unless we have leave supporting government. However, that government was democratically elected albeit in a minority.

It sounds like he is blaming other people for not delivering the Brexit he promised.

It sounds like he has little regard for the system of government who's sovereignty he claims to value.

How else should this quote be interpreted?

My imaginary friend? You need to go and have a lie down son!

Facts

1; Aaron Banks lives just outside Bristol which is where I hail from

2; my imaginary friend works for a very big financial organisation who I am not going to name and knows lots of wealthy people who he has a working relationship with

3; I am retelling a conversation that actually happened in reality.

Your attempts to belittle anyone who opposes your point of view are unpleasant and you calling me a liar who makes up stories that are general knowledge is a classic deflection attempt. I’m telling the truth, you don’t like it and therefore you attack me personally. Classic bully boy tactics.

Same old tactics. He's like the MP Mark Francois (great British name btw), who when asked if he had read the whole 550 pages yet - NO! Like the other idiot Peter Bone who tabled a question that we could leave and pay nowt! Muppet! Someone obviously threw a bone and he took it. We are locked in until 2020 which is when the current EU budget runs out - another reason why they would offer a 2 year transition as part would be in the new budget period!

Oh a slight critism it's Arron, not the correct spelling which you have, - his dad cocked up on registration of birth - good omen.

Aren’t foxed and centy agreeing on what Banks has said, just disagreeing on the source. And while he did say that on the Marr show, and foxeds friend may be pulling a fast one, if his friend does know Banks it shoudlnt be a suprise he’s saying the same thing again. It’s an odd argument to be having.

Not really. Centaur frequently argues vociferously in favour of positions that undermine his own standpoint primarily because it is against someone whom he takes exception to in general.

Centaur just "argues against" as a matter of course.

It’s true that we may actually be telling the same story but I don’t feel the need to call someone a liar with imaginary friends. I was relaying an open and honest conversation which I had with my friend in a nice pub in a nice part of Bristol. He is a professional and is not one for spreading innuendo and gossip and it’s only because we are old friends and he knows that we don’t swim in the same business circles that he told me. I know him and trust his word and if there is any value in what he told me it is that it was a direct conversation he had with Mr Banks. Brexit is a shit storm and I worry what will happen tomorrow but I won’t be shouted down by barrack room bullying.

You do realise that works both ways. Remaines kissing the Lords arses and putting them up on a pedestal saying they know best and are very well informed when they voted against the EU Withdrawal bill, and yet when it comes to what the Lords said on the divorce bill suddenly they can't be trusted and they know nothing about contract law, lol.

As usual, you only read headlines.

The legal position of the Upper House is that a strict legal position is that we would have a good case for not being liable to pay a divorce settlement if there is no agreement. It is, however debatable.

You had previously unilaterally decided that we weren't liable to make a payment under any circumstances ever.

They also say don't go there if you can possibly avoid it.

"However, the strictly legal position of the UK on this issue appears to be strong.

Article 50 provides for a ‘guillotine’ after two years if a withdrawal agreement

is not reached unless all Member States, including the UK, agree to extend

negotiations. Although there are competing interpretations, we conclude that

if agreement is not reached, all EU law—including provisions concerning

ongoing financial contributions and machinery for adjudication—will cease

to apply, and the UK would be subject to no enforceable obligation to make

any financial contribution at all. This would be undesirable for the remaining

Member States, who would have to decide how to plug the hole in the budget

created by the UK’s exit without any kind of transition. It would also damage

the prospects of reaching friendly agreement on other issues.

Nonetheless, the

ultimate possibility of the UK walking away from negotiations without incurring

financial commitments provides an important context.

Given the legal and political void that would be created by a disorderly exit,

we share the Government’s view of the advantages of achieving a negotiated

agreement. This is particularly the case given the provision in Article 50 for a

withdrawal agreement to take account of the framework for an exiting state’s

future relationship with the Union. If the Government wishes to include future

market access on favourable terms as part of the discussions on the withdrawal

agreement, it is likely to prove impossible to do so without also reaching

agreement on the issue of the budget.

Many figures have been suggested for the UK’s ‘exit bill’, with the European

Commission’s chief negotiator, Michel Barnier, reportedly putting the bill at

close to €60 billion. This report seeks to examine the factors contributing to

these suggestions and highlights the difficulty of arriving at any definitive

figure. We explore the wide range of figures it is possible to produce, depending

on the chosen calculations of liabilities, assets and any UK ‘share’.

We hope that a withdrawal agreement can indeed be reached within the two

years of the Article 50 period. It is contingent on both sides recognising the

gravity of the alternative and being willing to reach agreement on reasonable

terms in the spirit of reciprocity."

I do luke the idea of an independently appointed upper house that reviews legislation based on knowledge and experience = wisdom. Not driven by short-term news cycles or five year election cycles.

As for hereditary peers, I agree - meh.

Remaines kissing the Lords arses and putting them up on a pedestal saying they know best and are very well informed when they voted against the EU Withdrawal bill, and yet when it comes to what the Lords said on the divorce bill suddenly they can't be trusted and they know nothing about contract law, lol.

So maybe take a long hard look in the mirror when it comes to u-turns.

Keep up the good work.

I don’t like the house or lords at all. I don’t like the hereditary peers system and I think we should get rid of them and go for the Irish model for the upper house.

I do luke the idea of an independently appointed upper house that reviews legislation based on knowledge and experience = wisdom. Not driven by short-term news cycles or five year election cycles.

As for hereditary peers, I agree - meh."

I mostly agree with you however now is not the time. We all know that the only reason Lords' reform or abolition is being pushed right no is because the right wing want to punish them for not blindly falling into line on their BREXIT agenda. Let's get BREXIT sorted first (preferably killed), let things settle down, then look at Lords' reform, but not abolition.

"Aren’t foxed and centy agreeing on what Banks has said, just disagreeing on the source. And while he did say that on the Marr show, and foxeds friend may be pulling a fast one, if his friend does know Banks it shoudlnt be a suprise he’s saying the same thing again. It’s an odd argument to be having.

I’d never agree with anything Centy says though. O

You'd be really good presenting Jackanory. The difference between my version and yours is my version was a public broadcast on the BBC that anyone can watch on the iplayer. Yours is a private conversation that only you can confirm. I'll take the public broadcast on state television rather than some randoms word on a swingers forum, thanks.

You’re posts are entertaining.

BBC = liberal propaganda.

BBC = the only trustworthy news source

House of Lords = enemy of the people

House of Lords = only people who can be trusted about International law

Jeremy Corbyn = worst socialist ever

Jeremy Corbyn = brexiteer and anti-Semite

I’m paraphrasing of course, as I can’t remember your exact words. Your pro-Brexit rants are now legendary for their inaccuracy, complete ignorance of facts and evidence and your spectacular U-turns.

How? a) we have been getting a EU rebate every year for the last 33 years

b) if you decided not to pay stuff that you have already legally committed to and signed for.... what would happen to your credit rating? (bearing in mind the OBR figures for 18/19 suggest we will need to borrow £37.1bn pounds)

c) the euro in your words may say it all, but since the brexit vote the pound have lost about 15-20% of its value against the euro

We all know that the only reason Lords' reform or abolition is being pushed right no is because the right wing want to punish them for not blindly falling into line on their BREXIT agenda. Let's get BREXIT sorted first (preferably killed), let things settle down, then look at Lords' reform, but not abolition.

So much for a democratic Britain.

The leave won so just get on with it.

How? Without specifics of the exact measures, including how the Good Friday agreement is upheld, the Article 50's 2 year period having a few weeks left and all the legal changes that need implementation - not to mention air traffic etc out of the UK, it becomes like one of those platitudes the failed politicians have used, like brexit means brexit.

How did we ever cope before joining the ECC?"

What a simplistic comparison of a question that's so hard to comprehend the logic of it that it could be asked to start with.

It's questions like this that highlights the low level BREXIT mentality.

It's really very simple.

Brexit means BREXIT!

Theresa May, our DEMOCRATICALLY elected Prime Minister has now told us exactly what BREXIT means.

Stop Breximoaning and GET BEHIND BREXIT!

If you disagree do explain in terms of the arguments you've provided previously demanding support from remainers

I’m paraphrasing of course, as I can’t remember your exact words. Your pro-Brexit rants are now legendary for their inaccuracy, complete ignorance of facts and evidence and your spectacular U-turns.

Keep up the good work.

So maybe take a long hard look in the mirror when it comes to u-turns.

Keep up the good work.

I don’t like the house or lords at all. I don’t like the hereditary peers system and I think we should get rid of them and go for the Irish model for the upper house.

You're correct we have been fleeced by the EU for years. We're a net contributor and have been paying over the odds in membership fees for far too long. The EU also hits us with surprise bills completely out the blue as David Cameron found out during his time in office in 2014 when the EU sprung a surprise bill on him for £1.7 billion which the EU said was backdated and was to cover money Britain had made on the black market to cover things like drugs and prostitution.

Cameron said he wouldn't pay it and it was an unacceptable way for the EU to behave but later capitulated and paid the EU the £1.7 billion in full.... Just about sums up the spineless twat.

To top it off we don't even get a trade surplus with the EU for all this extortionate expense, we have a trade deficit with the EU.

West London

LEAVE voters who read newspapers from the back forward and watch the news twice a year have confirmed they would still vote for Brexit.

Journalists sent to depressed Northern towns and conservative rural villages are finding that their residents are not on Twitter, have never heard of a Guardian liveblog, switch channels when Newsnight is on and would not change their decision in the slightest.

Norman Steele of Craven Arms, Shropshire, said: “I’m not one for politics. That’s why I voted Brexit in the first place.

“Apparently she’s got a deal now, Trevor down the market told me, but it’s not a good enough deal so they’re going to send someone else back to get a different one. That happened to me with a washer-dryer at Dixons.

“Why would I vote any different? We’ve not even left Europe and people want us to go back in it? Doesn’t make any sense.

“I do get the newspaper, but mainly for the sport and the crossword. And it’s the Mail, so it’s not political one way or the other anyway.”

Londoner Nathan Muir said: “But I thought everyone had changed their minds now. It said on the podcasts.”

Silly boy. You just read the Daily Mail headline again didn't you?

Both Greece and Italy paid more for the same reasons. The UK also paid more because our economy grew more than predicted and as contributions are calculated as a proportion of the size of the economy...

You think the point of trade is to get a trade surplus? Is that "winning"?

Silly boy

But Douglas Caswell we could get a better trade deal once we left the EU. Gove said we would be able to negotiate a good trade deal after we'd left because we held all the cards. Non of the Leave campaigns said we would leave with 'no deal'. So, Leave having repeatedly said in the referendum campaign that we would Leave with a new negotiated trade deal, how does Leaving with 'no deal' actually fulfill that campaign commitment and, if it doesn't fulfill the campaign commitment, how can it be claimed to be 'the will of the people'?

I going to assume you ment the EEC.

But this BREXIT is not actually taking us back to 1973, when we joined the EEC. This BREXIT is also taking out of EFTA that we've been in since 1960.

And how did we ever manage before 1960? Mostly, with austerity since the war, pretty badly.

The world, and Britain has moved on since 1960. In 1960 there were no motorways. In 1960 most households were lucky if they had 1 black & white TV. In 1960 most households didn't have a telephone. In 1960 must households didn't have central heating. In 1960 no one new what a supermarket was. I don't know how people managed in 1960 but you're right they did manage but I wouldn't want to start living like that now, would you?

Remainder were stakeholders in Europe.

I've always been a USA/nigeria/thailand kind of guy.

Europe is a limited dream in a global world full of emerging new markets.

But the eu itself was absolution of power to Brussels.

I want my vote to count.

I didn't want my elected mps/prime ministers power being devolved to unelected Europeans.

I felt the European union was a threat to culture/nationality making us "all the same"

It's a shady illuminati New world order one nation type structure and I wanted to hold onto my culture.

The European union felt like we had sold ourselves cheaply into a partnership with weaker nations.

Europe is going nowhere. They have wine and cheese but we need oil and copper.

The Germans chose to put it there so they can keep control.

If the can’t sell their cars in the Uk, they will lose more than JLR selling theirs to the EU."

I dont think you understand the German car industry very well do you?

"It's so complicated to leave because the EU, over many years, have manipulated new laws on us that have made it that way. Then billed us shit loads of money every year for more bollocks rulings to follow next year.

EU directives are the scourge of business

Pull out with no deal - they'll soon fall into disarray and we'll survive. Poland and Hungary are already telling them to fuck off

BBC = liberal propaganda.

Keep up the good work.

As for hereditary peers, I agree - meh.

How did we ever cope before joining the ECC?

"

A lot of things have been invented and reinvented since the 1960s. You cannot seriously believe that none of that would have happened had we not been in the EU (or whatever other names it went by in the past,) surely nobody is that naive.

I went to France in the 1970s, and most places I visited didn’t have proper toilets. I don’t know if they are still squatting above a hole in the floor to poop, but if they are not then it will be nothing to do with the EU.

We would all have moved with the times, and we will continue to do so...

Doh!! You totally missed the point & got the whole thing the wrong way round.

Someone said how did we ever manage before in the 1960's and the reply was to say we can't compare now to the 60's at all, they wern't saying the EU built the motorways, made colour TV's & invented supermarkets

Yes as long as you remember to remove your trousers and pants befor using as otherwise you might find an unwelcome lodger as you pull your trousers back up - it happened to a friend of my uncle and he’s never lived it down (or gone back!)

Interestingly there is a market in German and Nordic countries for urinals in bathrooms (sometimes with a loo seat type lift up flap to stop the kiddies fingers going where they should not).

Funny how many of the french think our sit down loos are disgusting too.

The leave won so just get on with it.

Get on with what?

Leaving of course

And which Leave should they get on with. May's Leave, Mogg's Canada+++ Leave, the EU's original EEA leave, Mogg's revised WTO+-+ Leave, what ever Leave the cabinet gang of 5 cobble together this weak or 'no deal' Leave?

Just any leave god damn it *stamp* *stamp* *stamp*

Pay nothing and leave

Use the billions to invest in the UK instead.

After all we have been fleeced for years

The Euro says it all.

Times not going to be your friend! But by judging on the time you spend on these post you probably don't need any. Get yourself a holiday...Europe's great...no red tape."

I've had 2 holidays this year, one on the south coast of the UK in Weymouth and one in Gran Canaria, Spain. It was actually hotter in Weymouth than Spain when I was there, who says you need to go abroad for the Sun.

As for the amount of time I spend on here looking at your verifications compared to mine it looks like I spend considerably more time meeting on here than you do.

With respect, I wasn't trying to say that, if we hadn't been in the EU/EC/EEC/EFTA since 1960 we wouldn't have made any progress. What I am pointing out is that the world has changed since 1960 and, where as we may have managed without things in the past it doesn't mean that we can easily go back to managing without them now.

Saying we managed OK before we joined EFTA in 1960 so why can't we manage again now is a bit like saying we managed OK in 1960 before the M1 and M6 were built so why not dig them over and manage without them again now.

I remember back in the 70s, on camping holiday in France, going for a shower and wondering surly that plugholes too big! How does it stop the soap falling through. And where the bloody hell is the shower head. I was really surprised when I pulled the chain, thinking that would start the shower, to suddenly find freezing cold water squirting around my feet. Bloody EU toilets.

Sorry to be so vacuous about brexit but did anyone see that Zara Mcdermott on TV this morning. I bet she could persuade Michael Barnier to let us off the hook a bit. She certainly had the date rolling his eyes and tongue out by the end of it.
