So, India (you know, the country with a viable space program) has build a statue costing £330 million, with plans to build another similar one.
In 2015, the UK gave India £150 million, I doubt that figure has changed much.
The absolute topper though, was when I found out that India GIVES AWAY more in International Aid than it gets.... so it doesn't even need our money! The kicker to that is, whilst the UK probably has a "naughty and nice" list, to decide where money goes, so it doesn't end up funding terrorism etc, we have no control on where India sends its money, meaning we could, indirectly, be funding some fruitloop dictator of "Xenophobland" who is partial to throwing gays of buildings and letting his army use questionable methods of "warfare" against his own, and other countries, citizens.
I really do think its time a large portion of this money was diverted back into the UK, to support communities where there are foodbanks etc. |

I agree too. The ridiculous 0.7% figure David Cameron came up with for foreign aid needs to be scrapped. As the UK economy grows each year that means the foreign aid budget keeps growing and is becoming more and more bloated each year, to the extent where we're now paying around £14 billion in foreign aid. It needs to be cut, and money diverted to priorities at home. |

"If we are the 5th lrichest country or 6th why are we the second largest when it comes to over seas aid why do ppl thinks it’s ok for Germany France China japan to give less than U.K. ?"
Ask your government. Wasn't Priti Patel in charge of foreign aid? How much do we give to Pakistan? Yes I agree that it's crazy we are giving aid to India - but maybe that because of historical reasons when we exploited the country before it's independence? I certainly don't know, but as a rich country, I do believe that we should help poorer countries - but with strict controls to reduce corruption! |

Why does the 5/6th richest country in the World have good banks?
I would say because the UK system is broken. Let's look at inheritance tax - who does that protect? Certainly not the people going to a food bank! |

Being realistic though, can you really say we are a rich Country when we borrow Billions EVERY month to get by ? I for certain don't and never will consider ourselves rich with borrowing at such a degree. |

America is arguably the richest nation on earth and has food banks. It's not a problem unique to the UK. |

If it helps you, think of it as reparations. India was the 5th wealthiest nation on the planet until we arrived and asset stripped it.
However, as we all know "aid money" in reality has nothing to do with aid, and is instead a buy- in for British industry- it tends to have strings attached (eg: we give you a million for small arms as long as you buy them from us). I wonder how much money we make from "aid" money? |

But it's not politically convenient to call it that is it?
In fact, instead of "bribery" you could call it a government subsidy of British industry, or, if you are a customer a "discount". |

Another great example of a failed system! Again why should the richest country in the World have good banks?
Could it have anything to do with uneven distribution of wealth or tax evaision by any chance? A country so rich that large numbers of the population have no health cover. Look to the future Britain because the could happen in the UK! |

By 2050, the GDP of India and China will exceed that of the G7.
India is growing rapidly, and so is the inequality.
I remember a scientist telling me the world will be in trouble when everyone in India wants fridge.
It has nuclear submarines, nuclear power plants, nuclear weapons and a space programme.
Strategic counter weight to China.
China is pals with Pakistan. India is pals with Japan.
Regional power blocs.
I agree about the money btw. It should really go to places that are impoverished.
India is fast becoming a super power. How it spends its money is its choice. It doesn't need ours, I think. |

Food banks reflect, not the wealth of a country, but how unevenly it is distributed.
I saw a graph yesterday showing how inequality has widened greatly in the UK since 2010 - much more so than any other "developed" country.
That is austerity - a political ideology that redistributes the common wealth, i.e. taxes, from those in greatest need to those with least need.

i read yesterday how India is celebrating the delivery of its "nuclear triad".
The first indigenous nuclear-powered on its first deterrence patrol carrying Indian nuclear warheads.
The "nuclear triad" is the ability to launch nuclear weapons simultaneously from land, sea and air.
The UK does not posses that ability.
Our aid money would be better spent in countries in need of help.
Then again, aid is a political tool used by countries use to buy economic favours for its corporations.

This is typical of the sort of populist rubbish that gets put out and people, believing it to be true, get rightfully angry.
The truth is this:-
All regular financial aid to India from the foreign aid budget ended in 2015.
The only financial aid from the foreign aid budget India is now entitled to is for disaster recovery; as all countries are including Germany, France, Japan and the US.
The amount of money the UK government currently spends in India is about £50 million not £350 million. This money does not come from the foreign aid budget it mostly comes from the security and business development budgets. It's not aid.

Now we have the truth maybe we can discuss this with out the outrage.

The UK total foreign aid budget is 0.7% of GDP, a figure that David Cameron got voted through Parliament when he was Prime minister. That now equates to around £14 billion for this year in the year 2018. Figures from the House of Commons library. |

So why do you believe that what “ The Times of India” report is the truth. The Department for International Development is responsible for administering overseas aid, I think I’ll base my opinions on the figures they release, however I won’t be arrogant and try and tell people “ this is the truth”
