My hope is that it will fire up enough people to get out and vote and sink the GOP.

A) says the person who gets their information from RT

B) the midterms... basically the dem attack ads will all write themselves over the next 4 weeks and they will all involve how republicans don’t respect women with all the things they have said over the last couple of months

They will have solidified the base at the expense of the independents and especially women...

The dems will win the house! The question is will they win the senate....

Every prediction I heard said that if his nomination went to a vote he would get the job. The fact that it took a corporate Dem who has consistently supported Trump in close votes to get him across the finish line sort of says it all. The question is will there now be a backlash and is it going to cost Trump the presidency and maybe maybe his and his children's freedom?

I think the likelihood of his impeachment and the GOP losing both houses have increased massively, as have the odds of Trump attempting to nullify the midterms if the GOP lose.

Let me correct you Fabio

I watch multiple news sources and read multiple news sources online to get different views and opinions and then form my own.

When you only watch one source like you did during presidential election which was CNN.

You was so brain washed and convinced trump was going to lose that you even laughed at and mocked someone (cant recall their name) that was watching fox news and saying that it's going to be a trump win.

I really thought after that and how wrong you got it that maybe CNN wouldn't be your main go to source for news.

For a fantastically sane look at what Trump has done 'weaponising' Kavanaugh's 'victimhood' go google:

"Trevor Noah Trump Weaponizes Victimhood to Defend Kavanaugh". and find the video from a few days ago.

It is an amazingly good, and frankly fucking scary, look at what Trump is doing.

At no point did it ever look like Kavanaugh was more likely to lose the vote than win, it was a close run thing bit Collins and Flake never looked likely to vote no.

As far as the mid terms this is going to energise both sides which is bad for the Dems because they already had an energised base and the Republicans didnt.

But Dems are still going to win the House and are still going to be a long shot to win the Senate. Theres going to have to be a couple major upsets (like Beto over Cruz) to see the Dems win the Senate.

I could not think Trump could sink any lower.

Then I heard him a moment ago apologise to the judge on behalf of the United States for the "lies" and "unfair treatment".

The professor must be mortified.

What message is Trump sending out to victims of sexual assault.

He is a vile and hideous man, a self-declared sexual predator.

They aren’t sending her death threats... they are raising funds against her so in 2 yrs time when she is up for re-election she will be in a dogfight... the republicans will stab her in the back as I bet she will get primaried by her own party for not being trump enough ....

And the democrats think they have found the perfect opponent for her in the general election which would be former un ambassador Susan rice

Anyway if you are looking at senate races to watch.... would not be surprised if the republicans snatched North Dakota back and the democrats took back Nevada so they will even each other out! democrats will win Arizona ... will win Florida going away...

The big fights will be Missouri, Indiana, Tennessee and Texas ( if Beto beats Cruz all bets are off... just the fact Texas is in play is mad enough!)

If you want something else to look at... look for the governor races in Florida and Georgia

The republicans will pick up 2 , maybe 3 seats in the Senate

And based how the democrats have energised the republican base they may just retain the house. I know it's only been done twice in history but I feel number 3 may be on its way.

Nothing seems to step then voting for the republicans. Whatever happens they seem to get the votes. If Trump boasting about sexually assaulting women didn’t stop them, then his pick for the Supreme Court being accused of the same won’t make a blip on the votes.

Also she originally wanted the Secretary of state job. I'm glad she's going. She's too much of a neo con war hawk.

The reality is that she deliberately gave minimal details of the alledged attack so she could avoid perjury. That's why he mocked her. Personally i feel a bit sorry for her as she was clearly manipulated into this by the Democrat party. They were trying to do exactly what they did in the Reagan years to block a Republican nomination.

nope... trump has so taken the party to the right you could absolutely see a traditional small "c" Conservative run against him.. like a haley, or a john kasich, or a ben sass for example....

it would be interesting test of how much "trumpism" has taken a hold of the party... i think again we will have a better sense after the midterms especially if trump gets beat badly in the house

on the "other" side.... i think it is interesting that michael bloomberg has re-registered this morning as a democrat..... because he was playing with running as an independent if 2016 had ended up being trump vs sanders....

i think he did a good job as NYC mayor... socially liberal but fiscally conservative.. he and biden would probably take up the same space of the traditional side of the party...

on the progressive side...you are probably looking at 4 names. Warren, Booker, Harris and Sanders

if Warren runs i don't think bernie will... if harris/booker runs i don't think the other will.....

A 2020 Warren/Bloomberg ticket for example would work for me and that would cover all parts of the party for me

"

Not even the tiniest chance. Trump was at least a household name and had money to back him. Shapiro is a niche conservative writer who's made no impact on wider society. That would be like saying Ezra Klein could be the next president.

"The republicans will pick up 2 , maybe 3 seats in the Senate

And based how the democrats have energised the republican base they may just retain the house. I know it's only been done twice in history but I feel number 3 may be on its way."

The Republicans arent going to net 2 or 3 seats in the Senate and they are going to get hammered in the House. Since the Kavanaugh hearings the Republicans have seen an enthusiasm increase but the Democrats are seeing even bigger gains.

Sadly I agree. The President isn't about being the smartest guy in the room, clearly. It's about getting shit done, usually by negotiating with unpleasant people. Trump is actually good at getting shit done. The fact that I don't agree with a lot of it is neither here nor there. It's no good being a first-term Obama and promising the world, then going home with your tail between your legs because the nasty party blocked you on everything.

But he hasn't "got shit done". He has mostly blustered about *saying* he is getting shit done. But apart from the tax breaks from the rich, and removing environmental protections around the fossil fuel industry, what has he actually got done?

This is exactly it.

Plus you have to question why he constantly praises himself. If he was genuinely achieving more of his fucked up self serving agenda. He wouldn’t need to bang on about it all the time.

He got an anti-abortion judge on the Supreme Court despite the democrats most vicious attempts to stop it. He imposed huge trade sanctions on China and various other protectionist measures. More notable changes than Obamas entire first term.

I would suggest the Obama sadly achieved very little of the positive things he said he would do. He stabilised their economy and got a piss weak version of the affordable healthcare act through. Foreign policy stayed as aggressive as ever. Didn’t close Guantanamo bay etc.

Trump got some of his evil agenda achieved, tax break for his rich buddies, inflamed racial tensions and exasperated problems in the Middle East by moving their embassy in Israel and the Muslim travel ban. Other than that he’s achieved a big bag of fuck all.

Obama did not stabilise the US economy. He inherited the emergency economic stabilization act from Bush, which was enacted 3 months before Obama took over. Personally i don't agree with the act so I don't blame Obama for it, but his hands were tied on that issue.

Fair point. I guess it takes around four years for effects on the economy to reflect policy too.

You can't measure a presidents worth solely on fiscal policy .His record on the environment is impressive .Renewable energy boomed under Obama .

Now today we have a gibbon who promotes the idea that coal is clean and his tariffs on imported solar panels has led U.S. renewable energy companies to cancel or freeze investments worth billions in large installation projects.

Even Republicans dont think Bill Clinton fucked up the economy.

The level of ignorance in your last few posts is astonishing.

Clinton lifted the economy out of the Republican led recession. He left a record surplus for the country which W. then have away in tax cuts for the rich. Republicans then passed the law that allowed the derivatives market be unregulated which led to that market becoming larger than the GDP of the entire globe. When that market crashed thats what led to the recession in 2008. 2008 in case you forget is the 8th year of W's presidency. To blame that on Clinton is idiocy.

Obama in his first term stabilised the economy through TARP which gave the economy the platform to recover. He also passed the biggest health reform since Medicaid, repealed Dont Ask, Dont Tell, passed Dodd Frank, the American Recovery act, Job Creation act, saved the auto industry in America and the small matter of killing Osama Bin Laden. He also appointed 2 women to the Supreme Court in his first term including the first justice of Hispanic descent.

And thats all within his first term.

Well having just returned from florida, i would not be surprised if he held on to it, over 10 billion a year in infrastructure spending and a lot of people who see him as the only way of not being completely overrun with hispanics

"Well having just returned from florida, i would not be surprised if he held on to it, over 10 billion a year in infrastructure spending and a lot of people who see him as the only way of not being completely overrun with hispanics"

there is a lot of blowback on trump and how he reacted to critism of how he dealt with hurricane maria last year....

the other problem trump may have in florida is that it was known as the home of the old.. but now 53% of those people registered to vote in florida are 35 and under....

if they turn out.. the dems win... i have more confidence in Gillem winning the Florida Governors race over DeSantis, Nelson may hold onto his senate seat over Rick Scott....

the georgia govenors race just got interesting because the republicans are trying to keep 53,000 people who have just been registered from voting... most of them are minority voters...

Do you realise that it is the likes of you who are the first targets of those you support? Because you bend over and ask for more as they shaft you. It is only after they have totally fucked you they move on to the likes of me, after all we tend to fight back.

I’m not supporting anyone who is targeting me, nor do I bend over and allow anyone to “shaft me,” thank you very much. Also I’m getting on a bit now, but have done my fair share of fighting back. Should I ever feel the need to, like if the govt manage to cancel BREXIT, then I will be ready to fight again.

Sorry, I forgot your a former Chelsea football thug. I guess while I was serving in NI and the Falklands you were honing your 'fighting' skills in pubs and on the terraces when in the centre of a mob and of course your running away skills when the police turned up. And of course those you vote for are not targeting you, that is why you are poorer than you were 8 years ago and those you vote for and their mates have doubled their wealth.

Chelsea? WTF?? - And how am I poorer than I was 8 years ago???

I am a football supporter, but not Chelsea or anyone else in the top two leagues. Also I have had a few rucks at matches but was never part of any hooligan firm. As for how I’m fixed financially, I’m not well off but am way better off than 8 years ago.

I think you have got me confused for someone else.

Sorry to disappoint...

Apologies for confusing you with another football thug (they are all the same to me), but you miss the point completely. It is one thing to be in a few 'rucks' as you describe them, it is another to continue to do ones duty when people around you are being killed and maimed. You talk about fighting and doing it again if you do not get the brexit you want. You have no idea what fighting really is, if you did you would not be so ready to do it again.

As for you being poorer, unless you are in the top 10 to 20% of earners in this country you are, the fact that you are so well conditioned that you do not even realise you are being reduced to serfdom and penury eloquently makes my whole point. And to be clear it it those you so volubly support who are shafting you and you are such a 'Pavlov's dog' (that is a simile) you even deny your conditioning while salivating to every blast of the whistle.

So when I say I got into a few rucks but belonged to no football hooligan firm, you still think I am a “football thug.” Once again I’m sorry to disappoint but the only rucks I got involved in were when attacked by actual thugs, I would fight back, just self defence.

I went to cadets as a kid, but didn’t apply to join the armed forces as I had always wanted to move south and work in the building trade.

The fighting I meant from the past was political, it didn’t usually involve trading physical blows. I’m talking about demos, protest marches, days of action, meetings etc. I didn’t go looking for political opponents, that was never my style.

I don’t even know as to whom I am mistaken for.

Oh and FYI I was out of work 8 years ago...

see.... peace, the funny thing is that Will actually has a point (before you tried to shift the topic to brexit, which is what another person here does on a regular basis.....

see... lets that you, and what you said in your last paragraph and use an example....

you said you are getting on a bit, so lets use the topic of healthcare as an example of the person you are advocating for (trump) screwing you....

see... the funny thing about the affordable care act, is that what it basically has is a "branding" problem, because when you ask people if they like certain parts of it.... for example the fact that it covers pre-existing conditions, which is a biggie! or the fact that it has allowed states to expand and increase medicaid and medicare coverage

when republicans talk about being opposed to single payer... they forget that medicare is single payer, its the biggest single payer system in the world!... its basically the NHS for the poorest people!!!

but when you all the ACA "Obamacare".... thats when the outrage happens, that its the republicans that have basically made it toxic....

the republican what to scrap the ACA, they want to take away things that you as some of the poorest have... they want you to have to pay more, or in some instances for you have to rely of medicare because private insurers won't cover you, and they are wanting to cut back the money being used on medicare thru the ACA to fund that tax cut for those rich people

Obsession with killing babies? Did I miss something, somewhere?

Hillary Clinton's love of late term abortion, the fact that being pro-life bars you from being a Democrat candidate now and the fact that 28x more Americans have been aborted than die from the gun crime the democrats wail on about.

Obsessing about trump is one of the greatest risks to human productivity in the western world these days.

Worry about your own life, do something with it and you'll inevitably have more success and less to fret about in general.

I Just listened to her talk about it and checked her own voting record. Yes your grasp of proportion.

86.6m evangelicals and 11 murders of doctors. Compared to Antifa and other left wing terrorists who have a membership that is just a fraction of the evangelicals, but have committed 23 murders.

Not to mention that you'll never find a proper church advocating murder. Whilst there are ample examples of antifa and BLM calling for violence.

Yep, I fail to grasp the fact that you conflate that those who claim to be PRO LIFE have ONLY MURDERED 11 DOCTORS to save lives, while the antifascists in the USA have murdered more FASCISTS!

I guess that by the same measurement I fail to see the similarity between Nazis (and their allies) murdering some 20 MILLION in death camps and the allies killing Nazis and their fascist allies. After all they were also all ANTIFA...

Got a comeback or feel its time to shut up now?

Please, don't play dumb. You don't need me to explain what act utialitarianism is. The only contraction is that evangelical Christianity doesn't follow act utialitarianism. Putting things in capital letters doesn't make your point more valid either.

Indeed.. People can pray to whatever species of deity they like and perform any rituals that make them feel happy.

It's when they start insisting that their particular ideology is the supreme truth and that everyone else should conform to it that problems arise.. M

Why? The world is carved up into a nice boundaries for historical reasons. Why can't Muslims have countries and atheists have countries and communists can have their own hell hole countries... see where I'm going with this. I think problems are inevitable when you try and mix incompatible value systems together in the same legal boundary.

There's just too many silly people on here to argue with, I mean who the fuck thinks abortion is good? Who the fuck thinks r@pe is good?. This isn't religious doctrine of anybody's, no right minded person of faith or not thinks abortion is good we all think it's bad!.

Pulling a fetus to pieces with forceps is not good and never will be, there's 27 effective forms of contraception available in the 21st century, if you can't be arsed with it, there's at very least the morning after pill available free.

I'm probably somebody on the fence with abortion, I'm neither a fan nor a banner, however to somebody of deep faith killing children is a mortal sin and I fully respect there want to protest it.

Lol, too true. I've been away on holiday for a week but if Fabio makes a prediction on here you can pretty much guarantee the opposite outcome to what he says. When he said on a previous thread Kavanaugh wouldn't get confirmed it was bound to be a sure thing he would get confirmed in the end.

The reality is that in 2018, abortion is used as birth control. It's utter bullshit to imply abortions are so rampant because of the cost of birth control or it isn't widely available.

The reality is pro choice is the right humane choice! ,the religious right would like women to suffer at the hands of back street abortion clinics .Its safer in a legal clinic than to have to suffer the insertion of the wire from a coat hanger – or a knitting needle, or another thin rod or stick – into the cervix of a pregnant woman, with the aim of opening the cervix to induce a miscarriage.

You see making decisions based on what your imaginary friend wants is always going to be the wrong choice.

An old tired argument from the pro life religious right .No doubt for you it's at conception as every sperm and egg is sacred .

It's a question of choice and in particular it's a woman's choice .

It's simple.

Don't like abortion don't have one

Don't like porn don't watch it

Don't like gay people don't be one

Don't like your rights taken away don't take the rights of others .

The right want to control people and their bodies ,plain and simple ..Why ?because they folllow a Bronze Age cult .

I think science and medicine have already decided when and when not an abortion should take place. The religious want an outright ban based on feelings and emotions .They lack objectivity.

How many women should die bleeding on the floors of backstreet clinics for the self righteous to feel they aren't doing the good work of the almighty ?

It's not an argument for totalitarianism in the sense that I agree there are human rights that aren't optional in any country.

I think you prevent a naive view of morality if you think there's such a thing as a 100% private or 100% public space. The general problem is that the poor life choices of others invades my private space. We know the factors that lead to crime so my liberty is threatened by other people's shitty life choices.

There is no way for a democracy to work with just warring factions of radically different (or absent) value systems. It's just tribalism with lipstick on it.

Come on, I don't give a flying fuck whether you want to believe in a resurrection or not. I'm talking about whether we agree on values like:

- A single legal system that presumes innocence until guilty and a jury of your peers (I.e. no sharia law, ever)

- We agree that people have the right to own private property without fear of it being arbitrarily seized by the King or government (I.e. no communism, ever)

- We agree people who invest their money in private businesses are risking it and the government should not bail out their investment

- We agree that it is immoral for the government to run up unsustainable debts for future generations

If we can't agree such basic ideas as that then no democracy can't work, we can't share a society and it is just glorified tribalism.

It seems to me that you lose any political argument when you argue for something on the basis that it is what. God /your religion wants.

As believers in God generally want diametrically opposite things (some Christians say their faith means they are against capital punishment and others say their faith means they are in favour of it), bringing God into it gets you nowhere.

"The reality is pro choice is the right humane choice! ,the religious right would like women to suffer at the hands of back street abortion clinics .Its safer in a legal clinic than to have to suffer the insertion of the wire from a coat hanger – or a knitting needle, or another thin rod or stick – into the cervix of a pregnant woman, with the aim of opening the cervix to induce a miscarriage.

You see making decisions based on what your imaginary friend wants is always going to be the wrong choice.

When does human life begin?

An old tired argument from the pro life religious right .No doubt for you it's at conception as every sperm and egg is sacred .

It's a question of choice and in particular it's a woman's choice .

It's simple.

Don't like abortion don't have one

Don't like porn don't watch it

Don't like gay people don't be one

Don't like plastic being thrown in the ocean, don't look at it. How dare you tell me what I will do with my plastic. See how fucking stupid that logic is? You want to live in an integrated society where our actions effect each other, but nobody can tell anyone else what they should or shouldn't do!? "

While the topic is BS, i like this little play on logic

It's an interesting take on tolerance.

To be fair, although I disagree with him on the abortion issue, he does have a point.

If your moral position is that abortion is akin to murder, then it's no answer to say that people who think like him should just not have abortions, no more than to say that murder shouldn't be illegal and people who disagree with murder just shouldn't do it.

The answer, it seems to me, is that what is permissible behaviour and what is not is decided by the norms of a democratic society. So murder is illegal because virtually everyone things it should be and abortion is legal because most people think it should be.

This stance is a bit bogus - it sounds lovely but the logical extension is living with people who think you are scum of the earth for engaging on a swinging site.

Or in my case, my (true) liberal ways and open mindedness match me with liberal girls who turn out to be full retard brain washed feminist lemmings who come out with original sin statements they don't even understand about "while, male privilege"...usually blind to their own education and affluence.

I'd like to live around those who share a sound ideology.

It's a good question but the answers lies in the scale of it all. So no I don't think there's an inherent problem with nationalising the railways. The assets are mainly public owned already and it wouldn't be an arbitrary seizure (I.e. they would wait for the contracts to run out). It's a different matter when ideologues start telling certain businesses that they effectively shouldn't exist based on a logic that actually believes all private property is wrong.

So if the majority of a democratic society decide that Jews are a bit annoying, we can unperson them?

Or if the majority of people think black people should be classified as property, is that ok?

Where are you factoring logic and reason to some value system that isn't flexible?

There's nothing much you can do if the majority of a society decides that something should be permitted that you think is abhorrent.

You can fight against it or argue against it, but if the other lot feel sufficiently strongly about it and have sufficient power they will do it.

I suspect we both consider you shouldn't burn different sorts of Christians to death, on the grounds that religious freedom is a good thing. If you had tried to argue that with virtually any European government in the 16TH century you would have got nowhere because they didn't think there should be freedom to believe error. They had acres of biblical justification for that belief.

"There's just too many silly people on here to argue with, I mean who the fuck thinks abortion is good? Who the fuck thinks r@pe is good?. This isn't religious doctrine of anybody's, no right minded person of faith or not thinks abortion is good we all think it's bad!.

Pulling a fetus to pieces with forceps is not good and never will be, there's 27 effective forms of contraception available in the 21st century, if you can't be arsed with it, there's at very least the morning after pill available free.

I'm probably somebody on the fence with abortion, I'm neither a fan nor a banner, however to somebody of deep faith killing children is a mortal sin and I fully respect there want to protest it.

"at very least the morning after pill available free"

No. That is the point. There isn't.

Trump did say at the time he was elected President that his supporters would get tired of winning, because he would do so much winning. I guess he has stayed true to his word. He has batted away and defeated every challenge that has been thrown at him and come out as a winner. Trump is one of life's winner's, and that's just the way it is. I expect he'll be doing more winning at the upcoming mid terms.

No, I'm saying before you make a huge effort promoting something you believe in, you should consider the chances of success first.

"See Stormy Daniels lost her defamation case. She now has to pay his legal fees

Trump is the first person to get a hooker to pay him.

Too much winning for him at the moment.

Yeah for sure, if you’re ultra rich, into race hate or into sexual assault. You’re on for a win.

Everyone else is fucked.

What sexual assault? As was already pointed out earlier Stormy Daniels has lost her case, so Donald Trump is innocent of the charges. Or don't you respect official law court rulings now?

Most of the Uber wealthy in America are democrats, it's plain wrong to suggest that the wealthy support the republicans.

The problem with the left is they live in utopia, they have no idea how to fix real life problems.

You only have to look at the downfall of California since it's become long-term Democratic, not only cannot not fix abortion problems or the rate of abortions they can't even stop typhus!!!!.

Typhus in the richest state in America which has been democratic run for decades and while they've been in charge has fallen to 49th out of 50 for quality of life by residents.

Hence why I like a constitution or bill of rights. It stops the tyranny of fashionable opinions.

Or his house, or even his gardens for that matter, California is full of millionaires with massive fuck off gardens and land who all support the democratic party, open borders, sanctuary city and could quite easily house the homeless in tents they're gardens while using one of they're many pools to bath in!.

The only thing they're first in line for is a celebrity message against the republicans and why we should all do more to combat climate change.

him getting nato countries to spend more on defence was stepped on the spat with canada and his cosying up to putin in helsinki....

and so on.... and so on....

This is very true. Don't take this the wrong way, but do you appreciate that this has always been part of his strategy and how he got elected? He handles the media like... a... boss. I dislike several things he's said, the McCain comments were a real low point, but i admire the way he doesn't let the media run their agenda on him. There's nothing more pathetic than the way conservatives in this country, apologise to the leftist media for being conservative. Only Jacob Rees-Mogg and Ken Clarke know how to give an interview where they don't indirectly apologise for being conservative. Unlike that fucking idiot of a prime minister.

"I’m not supporting anyone who is targeting me, nor do I bend over and allow anyone to “shaft me,” thank you very much.

Wow will you did well fighting in the falklands three years before you could legally go to the frontline and a year brfore you could dven join"

I think you've got your maths wrong there. Even I'm old enough to have fought in the Falklands.

2018 - 1982 = 36

36 + 18 = 54

And, to be frank, whilst Will says lots of things I don't agree with, I'd much rather have him standing by my side in a sticky situation than an over aggressive gammon who's probably never risked his life for anything and definitely anything worthwhile.
