Ukip to accept tommy ?

Jump to: Newest in thread

By (user no longer on site) OP     over a year ago

Now I’m nowhere near being a UKIP supporter, but will say I thought their attempts to out some unsavouriness is something others could look to.

However there are reports across many media outlets they may be allowing Tommy Robinson in.

One, is this true (or is it a case of changing a rule, a consequence of which could be Tommy could join)

Two, does this make UKIP less attractive to other voters ? I know many here (and understandably so) get frustrated at the view ukip supporter = racist. Clearly this doesn’t suddenly make you racist. But are you still as behind UKIP if they are relaxing the laws. Or should the membership criteria not be something which affects party support ?

I don’t see why a UKIP supporter would get frustrated at the racist label. Racism is one of their two core policies, (misinformation being the second).

“Racist might be allowed to join racist political party”. Is the biggest non-story of all time.

I must have missed that report....I saw Nick Griffin had given his public support to the Labour Party, didn't realise he was joining the Labour Party as well.

As usual, media headlines disguise the real facts!

A motion has been put forward by a UKIP member, that TR be allowed to join.

This motion is to be debated at a UKIP executive meeting this weekend, on whether it can go forward to the UKIP annual conference, and then be debated and voted on by the membership.

Tommy Robinson is a long way off becoming a UKIP member, if at all.

And that's assuming that he actually wants to join UKIP.

Tommy should be the poster boy for UKIP and Brexit and they might get an MP.

Isn't the point that they are considering overturning the ban?

No doubt done purely for publicity and headlines but will result in attracting a certain type of person.

The UKIP Executive may feel that the Motion is not worthy to go to conference, and bin it there and then.

It’s s in all the papers.

I’m not a labour supporter, just because I’m not bigoted doesn’t mean I’m a labour voter. In any case Nick Griffin isn’t boosting labour by showing support, and they aren’t considering letting him join.

What did Gerard Batten say about Tommy Robinson, likened him to Ghandi and Nelson Mandela.

It's not like this is the first time this sort of thing has happened.

A mate who is a Labour Party member recently joined the Conservative Party so he can influence any future leadership contest. He said it is the best £15 he has ever spent.

I suppose it is but on a tiny scale.

If you want to see how it is done on a massive scale you need to look at the lobby industry in Brussels and how they influence EU policy on behalf of multinational corporations.

True.

Corrupt a Brussels decision and you swing a decision affecting 28 countries and 600 million consumers to your advantage.

Corrupt a Westminster decision and you swing a decision affecting 1 country and 65 million consumers.

The stakes are higher.

You love your labels!

There are anti-muslim sentiments/elements in every political party just as there are anti-Semitic sentiments/elements in every political party.

Does that mean every political party is racist and that every person who voted for, or who is a member of, a political party is a racist?

Does that mean you are a racist?

If UKIP really does allow Robinson (Yaxley Lennon, or whatever his name is) to join. They will blow any chance they have of making a political come back. Perhaps it could be seen as a deliberate ploy to finally destroy the party from within.

I am not going to even pretend that I give a rats arse about Islamaphobia, any more than I do about anisemitism. I believe that everybody should have the right to believe what they want, and express their beliefs similarly. In saying that, I mean that if the EDL want to have a demo, then they should be allowed to do so without interference.

But Robinson is a loud mouthed thug, and he makes anyone who expresses their worries about radical Islam in the UK look stupid. That doesn’t mean I think he deserves to be locked up, I just don’t think he should be given a stage by any political party. Tbh I doubt even the NF would have him, so why would UKIP? It doesn’t make sense, they just need our Nige back at the helm, where he belongs.

I’m all for free speech and letting people say what they want in the public sphere. I think Germany’s law against denying the holocaust is silly, for example. I can understand why it’s a delicate issue. But essentially that’s a law against telling lies on a specific subject.

However when we move to the political sphere, this is when we start to have a problem. UKIP as a example, demonised Muslims and immigrants during the referendum to campaign for a leave vote. That kind of institutionalised organised racism used as a political tool is a problem on so many levels.

You don't need to worry about White, Anglo Saxon Protestants (WASPs). I know many wasps, some are even good friends. Most pose no real danger to anyone. Live and let live, that's what I say.

As for the other stuff you mention, you appear to be going off on a tangent. I’m not insecure about anything, alright I’m scared of wasps ok? Oh and I only call someone a snowflake if I think they are a snowflake. Simpals!

That kind of institutionalised organised racism used as a political tool is a problem on so many levels."

There is a good reason for Germany's law on holocaust denial.

Whilst it was actually taking place, people, everyday people, were denying it. People have continued to deny it since.

So, to actually confront and accept their history they have a law which forces their history to be continually confronted.

West Germany always had this. The East did not. This, together with ongoing wealth discrepancies and being less used to foreigners has contributed to that half of the country being the seat of right wing movements.

Ok here goes,I’m Irish I’ve lived in London nearly 20yrs, I heard about Tommy Robinson and all he stood for, how racist he was, how much he hated the Irish etc. I judged the person from what I read in the media. What the eyes see and the ears hear the mind believes. Cutting a long story short and I don’t want to bore you all but I was introduced to Tommy by someone I knew, he wanted to change my opinion of Tommy I wanted to believe he was this horrible racist monster that hated us Irish, he wasn’t , he explained his believes to me, we didn’t agree but he acknowledged my right to express my opinion. That’s just my opinion, I’m not trying to tell anyone what they should do. Am I a racist because I’ve listened ?

There was a good documentary with Mo Ansar from about 5-6 years ago. He spent a long time with him, befriending and trying to understand him. He made a few breakthroughs, and at times it look liked he got through to him. Maybe it was the way they edited the final cut.

In any case it clearly made no difference as we can all see, he’s still at it.

Ultimately the way to change these kinds of people in society is to talk to them. Will require someone with a lot more understanding and patience than me though.

Whenever a politician talks to any unsavoury characters they’re slated in the media. But if the don’t talk to them then nothing changes. Look what happened in NI when then finally started to talk.
