It looks it will be a no deal, what will happen to airbus? They are activating their brexit contingency plan, how would that look like?

Airbus, the company we used to own a share of (that the tories sold because they are ideologically opposed to the UK government holding anything in trust for the nation) will pack up and leave. We will lose those high skill jobs and the communities around the Airbus manufacturing facilities will be devastated in the same way as mining communities were devastated when Tories oversaw the destruction of the mining industry. Of course Airbus will just be a part of post brexit deemployment of the UK. But don't worry, its all in a good cause. Just like the industrialisation of the country in the 80's was required to fuel the deregulation of the finance industry and enrichment of Tory backers, this is required to finish the job and return the country to a Georgian/Victorian society where the riffraff knew their place and there was none of this education for all and social mobility nonsense.

I make it sound as it is.

The Tories may be split on brexit but they are not split in the slightest about using brexit to enrich themselves and their backers.

I'm afraid your right, the government of the day sold of our heritage. We have next to nothing left in the manufacturing sector and we will find it hard to rebuild what we frittered away.

Of corse the EU are losing patience with the UK because the UK will not agree to the 4 main rules!

The EU will almost certainly not agree with the new white paper that has been hammered out and Ireland will still be a problem.

"we will find it hard to rebuild what we frittered away. "

But is was not frittered away. It was stolen and is being by the Tories! One should remember where the name Tory comes from and why they were so named. Then one should ask ones self why are they unashamedly proud of that name and recall their mantra:

Greed is good!

Then take a look round at what greed has got us. Greed dos not look so attractive 40 years on and the tories know they are about to lose the patsy they have used to cover their thefts for the past 40 years so this is their last big job and they intend to have everything.

"I don't see how they would expect to get rich if the country slips into economic decline?"

How many Tory ministers and backers are millionaires and multimillionaires with offshore trust-funds that they transfer wealth to in order to 'protect' it. Have you one of those Clem? Do you think they will lose their wealth when our economy collapses? Or do you think it will be ordinary people who can no longer pay the mortgage will lose their homes? And when the markets collapse do you think that, just maybe, the tories and their backers will use some of the funds they have been transferring out of the country for the last 40 years to buy up the property that will be on the market in a massive fire-sale?

By the way, what I am describing has a name. Its called disaster economics.

Stop blaming the EU! It is our government that has made this mess! The last brexit secretary David Davis spent a whole 4 hours in talks with Michel Barnier in his 2 years in office. That's a whole 10 minutes a month!

Interesting! Come on Will, tell us which Goverment pulled out of the Airbus project in 1970? Which Goverment was in power when BAE sold its stake in Airbus in 2006?

Then the coal mines? Who shut more mines? Wilson or Thatcher? How many mines did Callaghan, Blair and Brown shut? How much was the NCB losing per day in the 1960s? What was the NCB subsidy in the two years before the strike?

Because as I keep saying it was an act of desperation. I am hoping that brexit will be such a shock that the country will emerge from its stupor.

"It would hurt Airbus all over though. Half the skilled work force at Toulouse is British. There'll be a lot of paperwork.."

I wouldn't take Willwill's scaremongering too seriously. First of all everyone knows a majority of Conservative MP's campaigned for Remain, even though he will try to say otherwise. As for Airbus you only have to look at the Farnborough air show in the UK which was held in the last couple of weeks. The future of British aerospace industry is bright and thriving. Farnborough airshow attracted all the big names like Lockheed Martin, Rolls Royce and Airbus was there too. The Ministry of defence announced it will develop and build a new RAF fighter jet which will have the latest state of the art technology on it. Key announcements at the airshow were for the UK to have Lauchpads into space. Not one but two (one in Scotland and one in Cornwall). Cornwall already has an extra long landing strip anyway as an emergency landing place for the space shuttle. New space frontiers are opening up for the likes of Richard Branson Virgin group and he intends to develop space tourism where flights could be landed in Cornwall. New nanotechnology for nano-satellites is also a big development area in the UK and will be looking to launch these from the new site in Scotland which has a unique position geographically for launching satellites on a polar orbit. Not many places in the world are able to offer this. The UK will become a magnet for investment after Brexit in hi-tech aerospace technology and much was covered at the Farnborough airshow about it. The UK was already the leading country by far in Europe in 2017 (after the Brexit vote) for hi tech investment.

As an aside I think this is also a clear signal from the UK to the EU that we will develop and launch our own GPS satellite system to rival the EU's Galileo satellite system as we are leaving the EU we will leave the galileo programme. New lauchpads into space from the UK have already been announced at the Farnborough air show.

Yes and the positive stories are few and far between, usually limited to the pages of The Express & Daily Mail.

The negative stories are from every credible source, (and of course some sketchy sources too).

You have to search very hard for any credible positive news, and it’s always outweighed heavily.

In fairness whether its the plan or not the richest in society always increase their wealth hugely in economic downturns. In the Recession in 2008 the rest of us still havent fully recovered from its effects and yet the wealthiest have managed to improve their standings. If theres a Brexit recession the same thing will happen, the brunt will be borne by the average person and the rich will get ahead again.

Just like the industrialisation of the country in the 80's was required to fuel the deregulation of the finance industry and enrichment of Tory backers, this is required to finish the job and return the country to a Georgian/Victorian society where the riffraff knew their place and there was none of this education for all and social mobility nonsense."

"See the thing I find interesting is when the like of JRM says one thing about brexit... but the hedge fund company he founded, Somerset capital LLP, are telling their clients something entirely different

Or when lord Lawson who campaigned for brexit decided to apply for french residency

Or Nigel farage who hates the Eu with a passion, but won’t give up his eu pension....

Not quite practicing what they are preaching

I can see his point with the pension mind! Only an idiot would give up a bloody great pension "

"I don't see how they would expect to get rich if the country slips into economic decline?

So they want the country to fail, so everyone loses their jobs and homes, then they can buy the property and rent it to the people with no jobs or money, so that they can be even richer from all the money that they get from the people with no money. Is that right?

We all know that socialism is grounded in hatred of the rich rather than compassion for the poor. Hence the exaggeration of the truth as you've nicely trolled.

You can claim that "we all know" a lot of things.

Doesn't actually make them true, though."

We are leaving, so we might as well get it done.

To my mind, the worst thing is indecision, the EU are saying this, that and the other, and undermining business confidence, and the UK Govt are dithering, making things worse.

So better to get it done and minimise the damage, than draw it out.

The EU need us as much as we need them, its in everyones interest to get it sorted, but naturally both sides want it to be more on their terms than the other side.

The EU needs us? I'm quite sure the EU can prosper without us.

The EU says this, that and the other? The EU has been consistent from day one - the four freedoms of the single market are indivisible.

The UK voted to leave. Now we want to wriggle our way back in.

The UK had no plan for leaving then and it has no plan for leaving now. This is a morass made entirely in the UK.

That isn't the fault of the EU. That is down to 52 per cent of the population who believed the British nationalists when they said it'd be a land of milk and honey without the EU.

The EU will sit tight and watch as the screams in the UK become ever louder the closer we get to March 30. Whoever is leading the UK then will have two choices - to plunge the country over the cliff in a giant red bus, or go cap in hand to the EU begging to be bailed out on whatever terms they want.

Rule Britannia, eh?

Yeah they can do without us but I’m assuming they’re not stupid, what about the 300billion we import from them, I don’t think they’ll want to walk away from that. Both sides are looking to get the best deal possible, they’re calling each other’s bluff.

GDP of Scotland : $216 billion

GDP of UK: $2.6 trillion

GDP of EU: $17 billion

Cast your mind back to the Scottish referendum in 2014.

The Scottish nationalists argued that Scotland was so important to the rUK that the rUK would bend over backwards to accomodate an independent Scotland.

The rUK guffawed. You want your independence? Fine. But don't expect any favours from us.

The British nationalists are doing exactly the same. That the UK is so important to the EU that they'll bend over backwards to accomodate an independent UK.

Their response to the UK is the same response the UK gave to Scotland. If anything, it is more polite.

It was fantasy stuff from the Scottish nationalists in 2014 and it is fantasy stuff from the British nationalists in 2018.

That said, at least the Scottish nationalists put their plan in front of the voters before they voted.

The British nationalists put theirs on the side of a bus.

If this issue was about economics, we would not have had a referendum in the first place.

About 8 per cent of EU27 exports go to the UK. About 45 per cent of UK exports go to the EU27.

An 8 per cent loss is easier to absorb than a 45 per cent loss.

I agree the UK is not as important as they might think however they were one of the largest contributors to the EU. The Irish prime minister made a statement saying UK planes could be banned from using Irish airspace, does he realise the amount of Irish exports that travel through the UK to get to mainland Europe. I think both sides overestimate their value to each other, hopefully for all our sakes they’ll find common ground and settle on a deal that’s beneficial to us all

I was just pointing out that both sides are making some stupid statements at the moment. If he wanted to show it as a “ painful consequence” he didn’t word it very well, I read it more as a tit for tat threat, “ You can’t have your cake and eat it” he’s unhappy that the UK could ban the EU from fishing in their waters.

"It would hurt Airbus all over though. Half the skilled work force at Toulouse is British. There'll be a lot of paperwork..

What is a nano-satellite? Nano is sub-microscopic scale.

Leaving without a deal is bad but both sides lose out so we have to hope that the EU and the politions in this country who are doing there best to wreck brexit realise that we are leaving so we have to put our heads together and make it work.

Just moaning and not compromising is helping neither side so lets just work a one.United we stand devided we fall so simple

I agree 100%, I’ve said this in an earlier post. I voted to remain but as you say “we have to put our heads together and make it work”. There’s too many people wanting it to go wrong so they can say “ I told you so”.

Just as Barnier, Junckers etc are representative of the EU, so Milliband was representative of the British state in that debate.

actually.... no

but i do think that people who voted to leave didn't realise it would be such a hassle...

as someone above said... since article 50 was envoked, the EU27 position has not change once! it the UK govt that have been dancing around the EU's position in various different proposals.... remember "have your cake and eat it".. remember "red white and blue brexit"... then we had the lancaster house proposal.... now its the brexit white paper that was announced on the friday and out of date by the tuesday thanks to rees-mogg!

and every couple of weeks/months the EU publish brexit policy papers on their side on various different subjects and what may need to be planned for and what differences their could be..... and then remember that david davies claimed "oh the uk are doing the same thing!" to which we asked "well can we see them?" and he said they were private so to not to affecting negoiations.. well redact the sensative bits!... ummmm no!.... and then when pushed he said... we haven't done them! after all..

first it was "oh then need us MORE than we need them!"... then it was "they need us AS MUCH as we need them!"

maybe now the realities are sinking in........

this whole process was messed up on day 1 when teresa may could have said "the govt dept was so important that it should be a national unity dept and it should work outside of govt pressures and interference and it be led by people from all sides and all parties"...

but instead now it is a political football in an internal party battle.... thats not "best for the country"... Mogg gave the game away when he said the outcome shouldn't be decided with socialist help!".... he wasn't thinking country first at that point! he was thinking he own parties political ambitions!!!

if this is going to ever "work" then your here on in you have to be pragmatic....

you will never get a better deal being on the outside looking in, than being on the inside looking out! if leavers would face that fact to being with then we will start making process by limiting the damage this will do!!!

so please... no more with the brexit bonus/dividend bullshit and just be truthful!! if it means people are going to struggle, then tell us.... you want people vote for this, so own it!!!!

so if we aren't going to have things we did before, or we are going to lose things... honesty!

i will never get people voting to make themselves poorer... but they did

i will never get people being happy to vote for a blank canvas, but unhappy to vote for actual detail.. but it seem like people do!

it need a complete change in mindset if shit is going to get done and i don't have faith in anyone doing that at the moment and that is the saddest thing of all.....

"Airbus, the company we used to own a share of (that the tories sold because they are ideologically opposed to the UK government holding anything in trust for the nation) will pack up and leave.

I'm not sure how Airbus uk ltd would "pack up and leave" when its a UK company?

Like most of "British industry", it belongs to foreign investors.

"

So do you agree that brexit is all part of the neocon pro Zionist agenda, fooling the populous into thinking they were voting against globalisation, whereas in fact they were increasing it's influence?

The Zionist master plan for world domination includes the EU superstate. Globalisation includes the dissolution of individual nation states. BREXIT is not and never will be favoured by them. Theirs is the long game, and as nations disappear and are replaced by superstates, they will all fall into the same category, which will later become a world federation controlled by Zionist money and political control.

That'd be the EU that's been pouring billions into Wales for decades No wonder youre pissed off with them "

The EU hasn't been doing that though. The UK is a net contributor to the EU so the money coming back to Wales was UK taxpayers money all along.

Solid plan, no possible downside at all.

Rule Britannia, eh?"

No, we don't want to 'wriggle our way back in', at least real Brexiters don't want to anyway. Real Brexiters want to leave and to leave fully. It's remainers who want to 'wriggle our way back in'.

And when you talk of 'the screams of the uk' those are actually the screams of remainers as they become increasingly desperate and hysterical the closer to March 2019 we get.

The mandate of the referendum has long gone.

It expired the moment the UK submitted the Article 50 letter.

That was the referendum complete.

The referendum gave no mandate or a hard brexit, a soft brexit or any other kind - only a brexit - and to claim otherwise is to detach yourself from reality.

The action arising from the referendum is over.

The mandate now comes from the 2017 General Election.

Which is no mandate, really.

You don't call them all out though do you Bob. Especially when it comes to anti semites in the Labour party like Corbyn. Corbyn doesn't even recognise the international definition of anti semitism, and has just put his own definition in place for the Labour party. I haven't seen you complain or call it out once. Your double standards and hypocrisy are plain for all to see.

No mandate from the general election? Only 85% of the overall vote went to parties with Brexit manifestos (Conservative, Labour, DUP and Ukip). The party that returned the biggest vote share and got the most MP's was the tories who had it in their manifesto to leave the EU, leave the single market and leave the customs union. There was a massive mandate for leaving the EU from the general election.

I make it sound as it is.

The Tories may be split on brexit but they are not split in the slightest about using brexit to enrich themselves and their backers.

I don't see how they would expect to get rich if the country slips into economic decline?"

Uncertainty- if you play the stock market correctly, fortunes can be made (and lost) in times of instability relatively quickly.

It's got nothing to do with Jews or Christians. What you are talking about is simply "peak capitalism". Borders, cultural differences, languages are all barriers to the free flow of capital and ergo capitalism has no need for them.

The notion of nationhood will be eroded by capital.

All that is then left to divide people is class.

A complete break is the only way, the EU have proved this with their belligerence over the last 18 months or so...

By belligerence do you mean being consistent and presenting a united front?

Hostile and aggressive, try using a dictionary."

You totally missed their point about being consistent and presenting a united front..... there's no belligerence in that

The EU's position has been the same from day one, you know, when we gave them the finger & told them "fuck you" .... they said ok fine, if you want anything then this is our position and that's remained from day 1.

Please explain where the belligerence in that is ?

Why should Airbus continue to invest in the UK if it's the other side of a tariff barrier?

I hold that there will be a trade deal close to if not completely free with the UK taking rules from the EU. We don't have our own rules so we cannot negotiate on them.

Airbus will stay. The car companies will stay. Over tine they will wind down investment though.

We will lose access to services, particularly financial. 80% of our economy.

It will be a great victory.

"Why should Airbus continue to invest in the UK if it's the other side of a tariff barrier?

I hold that there will be a trade deal close to if not completely free with the UK taking rules from the EU. We don't have our own rules so we cannot negotiate on them.

Airbus will stay. The car companies will stay. Over tine they will wind down investment though.

We will lose access to services, particularly financial. 80% of our economy.

It will be a great victory.

Very true. Our economy must evolve.

Into what?

Whatever sells. Or should we just accept economic decline? Sit around remembering the good times? That's not how this country works. "

The EU does not have a single market for services and very few of the EU's trade deals include any agreement on services. It's crystal clear that the EU never worked for the UK in this area, considering how much of the UK economy works around services. It's simply not good enough and the EU has really let the UK down over 40 years of membership in this area. Is it any wonder then the UK decided to leave. As you say the UK will evolve and can do much better outside of the EU.

To me, Brexit seems to be all about going back to the "good old days" when Britain was "great".

"It is the UK who should be losing patience with the EU .its time to close the door on this farce once and for all "

We should have walked away from the table months ago. Theresa May has already let herself be used as a doormat by the likes of Barnier. He has already trashed her Chequers plan. How much more will it take for her to accept that the EU doesn't want a deal and we will leave on WTO rules in March.

So which "Brexit means Brexit" should we unquestioningly get behind now Centaur?

Do you think the public understands what No Deal actually means? I don't.

The EU has begun telling its member states what No Deal means for them.

The UK has not begun to tell its citizens what No Deal means for them.

What you don't hear is what the "European" nationals think about brexit. For example the majority of the French just want the UK to leave (57%). A British person was told last week to speak French not English! Sounds like British attitudes are being export here? Or is it we have bigoted idiots here too?

It's what happens when you erect barriers between people - you are declaring that lot on the other side are "different".

It is what the UK opted to do, to erect barriers (aka borders).

People make progress when barriers come down, not when they go up.

What am I "talking down"? Should remainers be saying it will be great and they were completely wrong even if they believe otherwise?

What is your suggestion? Accept that we are leaving under what ever terms our inept government or most extreme free market leavers want or try and stop Brexit or minimise its detrimental effects?

What is your actual point?

My point is you seem to be looking very short term. Yes the economy may suffer. Jobs will have to change. But then there's no time limit for the economy to recover. What we need is people who's glass is half full at the moment. Not doom merchants. Brexit will happen. Let's get on with it.

There’s a balance to be had here. On the one hand, if you believe brexit to be reversable, then fight the good fight.

On the other, as and while it is happening l, challenge those to find the best version. Any at a more micro level, help look for the opportunities. There will be some. And it may be you think they by no means offset the damage. But there must be some ways of steering the good ship britanniaxit through the choppy waters.

Brexit is about putting up barriers and isolationism, nationalism and looking inward rather than outward .Like trumps America and his wall and immmgration policy .We seem to be following the same direction .Britain first and two fingers to everyone else. Its an illogical cul de sac and the only eventual direction once you go down a dead end is to turn around or back out in reverse.

Why? What's the logic on the basis that the US is following an isolationist trade policy?

Boeing does not have a European production facility and does not require one.

Jeremy Hunt in Germany today, says Britons will blame the EU if there is chaos on March 30.

Lolol as predictable as the sun coming up in the east, politicians scapegoating the EU for their own incompetence.

British nationalism at its best:

Our country is in a mess, vote leave, it's all the fault of the EU.

So we leave, the country is in a bigger mess . . . and yep, you guessed correctly, It's all the fault of the EU.

lolololololol

Why should there be chaos on the 30th March?

Have we not been told all is going to be great for the last 2 years?

Have we not been told by JRM that WTO rules are nothing to worry about?

Have we not been told by all the brexiteers that they want a hard brexit?

It's all project fear surely!!!

Can't wait let's get it done and dusted. It's all good - why should there be chaos? Why blame the EU - they are doing us a favour - surely?

Or is it now our elected politicians (all parties) realise just how complex it all is - but they were told that on day 1. But more to the point all those promises that were made by leave - but impossible to keep. Its not their fault, it's someone else's fault for not letting us have our cake and eat it.

Fox is still peddling "we buy more off them" of course we will get a deal, pathetic excuse. Yes we do buy a lot of German cars, but the fact is the other 27 in total buy more!

Boeing are building plants at Gatwick, lossiemouth , Sheffield, and others. They also know that the aviation sector is growing faster than ever before.

This is neither related to Airbus leaving nor is it comparable.

Boeing is planning to open a European service centre (but I expect that they will wait for more clarity before they start any construction). They have no intention of building or designing aircraft here.

This is the equivalent of Nissan shutting and saying it's OK because Toyota are opening a dealership and service centre.

Kidding yourself leads to disappointment if you mentally replace Airbus with Boeing with no understanding.

Talking the country down = being realistic depending on your perspective. However it is deliberately intended to make it sound unpatriotic. Some sort of betrayal.

As with any complex project, you start with a realistic analysis of the tas and the resources and time available. You then identify the risks and find ways to mitigate them.

You can be positive once you have a realistic plan. There isn't one unless Davis Boris or Gove or Farage have been keeping it secret and are about to do the big reveal

I find the spectacle of British Misters running round the EU this week telling our partners that the British people will not forgive them if the British Government end up leaving the EU with no deal absolutely hilarious.

You'd think from the reports of their speeches so far that it was the EU was kicking the UK out rather than it was us walking away from the EU. could it be that the leavers have now opted for a scorched earth policy in order to ensure that regardless of the economic consequences for the UK there will be no way back.

Of course not, its just like the husband whose trying to fuck his secretary is only doing it because his wife does not understand him. And then when he gets in her knickers wants a divorce and to keep everything including unlimited access to the children without paying maintenance because its all the wife's fault that he is a cheating bastard...
