Sorry Ben. You didn't grasp the difference. Just had to point it out.
But continuing on. I spoke with Germans in English. And I have German family. Plus I understand Dutch (the language not the nation) which is close to German (language not the nation).

Oops forgot the point. That the English and German rival is one way. I used to goto Germany a lot for work.
In fact speaking to a Frenchman from Paris. That rivalry is gone. Newer generations are not carrying on the rivalry of their elders. |

I did grasp it and believe what you say, I have German friends. I was just having a dig at the other guy who chooses to live in a French speaking area of Canada but chooses not to learn the language. Through some sense of superiority I would imagine |

When it comes to football the Germans regard the Dutch as their biggest rivals. The schadenfreude when the Dutch failed to qualify was so strong you could almost smell it.
However I do get Geoff Hurst's goal mentioned from time to time. Lots of them still remember that.  |
