I'm just curious, where do you all lay on the issue of equality of oppertunity or equality of outcome?
And how many people know what im cuffing rambling about. |

I often hear people, always men, say they always treat people the same.
So therefore they understand equality.
I cite the case of a disabled person trying to get into a hospital, or a foreign visitor in A & E who speaks no English.
Treat everyone the same and there would be no ramp for the wheelchair, no interpreter to explain to the doctor what the patient is complaining of.
Equality for me is recognition that we are all different, our needs are all different, and that all are equally deserving of respect and consideration of our needs.
Different people need different routes to access the same opportunity. Treat everyone the same and you deny some people access to the opportunity. |

Wheelchair access I can understand, but expecting there to be interpreters in every A & E department is taking equality too far. How do you propose this is funded?
What if the interpreter on duty doesn't speak your language? Can the patient sue the hospital for discrimination? |

Emergency services use a central translation service. Not cheap though. |

Being treated fairly is all well and good to an extent.
But what happens when it is pushed into meritocracy as many groups are pushing for?
Nobody should be discrimidated against, but homo sapiens are not all equal, and thats good.
I hsve short legs but a broad chest and back, so im good at martial arts and swimmibg over running.
Im not good at creative writting, or design, but im good at statistics and biology.
So i fill a niche in the ecology of the job market, others take different ones. |

Here in France there are no expectations of providing an interpreter - you speak French if you need help you pay for it. Simples. |

The reason caucasians are better swimmers than runners is because of our Achilles Tendons...
It's a genetic thing..."

Nope, you take 2 people of the same build and fitness and (on average) the Caucasian will be the faster and better swimmer. Now if you take a Negro and apply the same rules to them you will find they will be the fastest runners and highest jumpers again because of their Achilles Tendons, we are at opposite ends of the scale physiologically in this. |

Disagree, I think there are factions in society - activist groups, who will push equality of outcome partially into government. They'll pitch it to parties and they'll persue it for votes.
I think over the last 50 years the West has progressively made equality of oppertunity more open. Work to be done, but I think its the best option. |

All very fringe and a minority thinking ,counter groups organised by the right cry foul all of the time.White men are being fucked over by ethnic minority groups and femininazis.There will be be no equality in your lifetime
