May will continue her game of brinksmanship with the hard right just as she did in December. As the deadline comes up there'll be a last minute acceptance that a deal needs to be done and as the Tories havent come up with any realistic solutions they'll take a worse deal than they could have got if they'd had a proper negotiation.

May will struggle on, making vague outlines of this, that or the other - trying to appease the conservative extremists and restrain, even just a little, the boris and mogg-nutjob et al. It's possible that an autumn grasp for power could be attempted, in sight of the conservative party conference.

The EU will continue to express dismay after the cons try repeatedly to demand that Northern Ireland and other essential requirements are solved via Mickey Mouse solutions that the Teletubbies already know aren't suitable, or avoid 1 or more essential elements.

The Mogg is suggested for a role in abortion discussions within NI, a role that's he more suited to than PM.

Jacob Rees-Mogg doesn't want to be PM. He has stated that many times recently, and his answers to whichever way the question is phrased, are consistent.

He values his religious beliefs highly, and more so than ever being PM, a role that would put him at odds with those beliefs.

Oh come on - I’ve never heard of a politician who values religious beliefs over the chance to take power - it’s against their nature - politicians are after power - they crave it - Boris Johnson is a prime example and don’t get me started on Clinton and Trump - worst of the lot

If he's kept fully out of any ministerial role the world will be saved.

I agree. Ruth Davidson has been positioning herself for quite some time as PM. She makes my skin crawl so should do quite well in Westminster

Well Nigel Lawson who lives here in France has just applied for his carte de sejour (residents permit). As chairman of leave will they grant him one?

If true, and I have no reason to doubt you, that shows the real hypocrisy of the leaders of the leave campaign.

He lives in France permanently. Why should they have any reason not to grant him one?

Well he did say some derogatory things about the EU and France. But if he hates it that much why should he want to live here? Does he pay French income tax like other French citizens?

So that is a good enough reason not to grant his residents permit?

I have no idea about his tax obligations.

As an EU citizen he is entitled to free movement. It sounds like you have a problem with that?

Absolutely not he was the person who didn't like freedom of movement not me. However he is the one taking advantage of it when it suits him! He's a migrant in France, just like the migrants in the UK. He is no different to the people he wants to keep out of the UK.

The UK's infrastructure is widely foreign owned.

Ports, airports, industry, processing, transport, media, energy etc.

My prediction is that, the day after Brexit, the people who actually own the UK will chuck the rest of us out

Not my decision that's for the beaurocrats to decide. No doubt having been in politics for a number of years he probably has some connections which he can use! But then again he may have pissed some off and it works against him.

Turning that on its head, Remoaners have said some derogatory things about the UK since the vote to leave in June 2016. If Remoaners hate it so much why do they want to stay here? Wouldn't they be better off going to live elsewhere?

Do you think they should refuse his resident's permit?

Another classic centy classic.

Can anyone name a country who told just under 40% of its citizens that they were no longer welcome to remain because just over 40% voted the opposite way to them and won a ballot on a single issue? I cant.

I can name a number of countries that have stripped citizenship from a section of their population and forced them out, I wonder is that what centy now advocating? Maybe he will tell us which model he favours, that of the Nazis in Germany in the late 30s, maybe he thinks that the Indian partition model of 1947 or possibly he favours the model used to partition Ireland (that way he will get to live in a Kippers paradise of a few decades).

If he is living in France he should pay his tax in France - if he isn't then no he shouldn't get a residency permit. By tax I mean income tax.

The question is not whether Lawson should be granted residency permit in France or not. The question is why does he want one in the first place. If he doesn't like Europe/France so much, why is he choosing to live there, yet campaign for the UK to leave? It's good enough for him but not the rest of the UK? Or is it a case of do as I say, not as I do?

It's not going down well here in France with fellow Brits. Also the French media have picked up on it too! Hypocrisy (hypocrisie).

As I said earlier the same principle applies to remainers in the UK, if they hate Brexit so much why do they want to stay here? Want to stay in the EU, then pack your bags and go and live there when the UK leaves.

You do realise how ridiculous that argument is, right? You want to *force* 16 million people to move out of the UK because they think that the UK is better off staying in the EU?! No one forced Lawson to move to France. He did it by choice. That says it all.

Because there may be 17 million like you but the are 38 million + who do not agree with you!

So why the fuck should the majority be forced to do as you demand? Maybe you are the one who should pack his bags and fuck right off!

Does my attack on you make you feel that may you need to moderate your view and language even a little? Or are you so wedded to your position that you have no regard for the cost provided you get your way?

If this is the case are you willing to kill for brexit?

How about die for brexit?

Now I do not expect an answer here to these questions Centy, but as someone who has in the past made a solemn vow to die in defence of this country I would advise you to think long and hard over my question because your language hints that you would willingly kill for brexit but I for one see no consideration of the possibility that brexit may require you to die for it, and that my friend is I believe the flaw in your (and many of your fellows) possition.

@Centaur_UK: in addition, I didn't realise voting remain meant that we'd have to pack up and leave if we lost (despite how much some brexiteers would love us to go and take all them damned immigrants with us). Was that in the Leave campaign? "If you vote remain and Leave wins, you'll have to leave the country!". Catchy, right?

What would you call it? A "friendly and polite suggestion"? Asking people to leave the country because they voted remain?! Because to me it implied a rude and insulting "oust" but I thought I'd use "force" to put it mildy.

What would you call it? A "friendly and polite suggestion"? Asking people to leave the country because they voted remain?! Because to me it implied a rude and insulting "oust" but I thought I'd use "force" to put it mildy."

Ethnic cleansing?

Turning that on its head, Remoaners have said some derogatory things about the UK since the vote to leave in June 2016. If Remoaners hate it so much why do they want to stay here? Wouldn't they be better off going to live elsewhere? "

With apologies to the OP, predictions so far into the future are futile. "Things" happen.

Centaur, please stop.

Voting to remain does not imply hatred of the UK. My assumption is that people voted as they did, in the main, for what they believe is the best.

Do you mean what you have written or are you trying to "win" an argument?

Get a grip.

Get a grip? Why?

So far in this thread Centaur has been told that his language hints that he would willingly kill for Brexit and that people should be forced to leave the UK.

I cannot see where he said either.

"The question is not whether Lawson should be granted residency permit in France or not. The question is why does he want one in the first place. If he doesn't like Europe/France so much, why is he choosing to live there, yet campaign for the UK to leave? It's good enough for him but not the rest of the UK? Or is it a case of do as I say, not as I do?

As I said earlier the same principle applies to remainers in the UK, if they hate Brexit so much why do they want to stay here? Want to stay in the EU, then pack your bags and go and live there when the UK leaves.

You do realise how ridiculous that argument is, right? You want to *force* 16 million people to move out of the UK because they think that the UK is better off staying in the EU?! No one forced Lawson to move to France. He did it by choice. That says it all.

Why do you want to stay in the UK then if you hate Brexit so much?

Loving my country and thinking that it makes better sense for it financially to stay in the EU doesn't mean that I must be forced to move away from it, leaving all my friends, family, home, etc behind, because *you* have a different opinion to mine. I don't *love* the EU more than I love the UK. I simply prefer the UK *in* the EU. Unlike Lawson who wants French residency after campaigning for the UK to leave the EU. Should he be forced to move back to the UK too?

Something like it But I guess we're not worthy of an answer when it's simply easier to repeat his original point as an answer to other people. Who cares if it's true or not? If something is repeated often enough, some people accept it as a fact regardless. It worked for the Leave campaign

Will your constant remoaning attitude help the future of the country or are you just making divisions worse after a democratic decision has already been taken to leave?

Someone said why does Nigel Lawson want to live in France (in the EU) when he dislikes the EU (and France) and campaigned to leave. All I'm doing here is turning the question on its head and asking the same in return...why do remainers want to stay in the UK when they clearly hate Brexit and they campaigned for remain. If you want to live in the EU that badly, you know where the airport or the ferry Port is, no one is keeping you here by force and you are free to leave the UK if you can't bare being outside of the EU.

Also I never said anywhere on this thread that people should be forced to leave, (if you can find where I've said it then please quote it). I've also never mentioned either killing for Brexit or Remain on this thread (if you can spot where I have then please quote it). It was willwill who went off the deep end and started ranting about that. Maybe it's the people like you and willwill who need to get a grip.

It's people like you who need to stop (remoaning).

I'll Continue to post on here within the forum rules as long as sore losers like you keep remoaning. I'll stop when the result of the referendum is implemented and we've finally left the EU.

It's your put up or shut up attitude towards others that's making the divisions worse. How very democratic of you!

"Someone said why does Nigel Lawson want to live in France (in the EU) when he dislikes the EU (and France) and campaigned to leave. "

Let's try this again (not that it'll make a difference). Does Lawson living in France means that he hates brexit? Kind of a paradox, isn't it? Especially when you consider that he campaigned for brexit. He lived there before brexit and he's going to live there after brexit (apparently freedom of movement is fine when he's taking advantage of it but others shouldn't be able to) yet campaigned for something to happen to a country that he doesn't even live in! By what logic, people who actually live in *this* country and the result of that vote will *actually* affect *their* day to day life and future, should move away from it because you and your lot voted irresponsibly?! Lawson won't be affected if things go to pot here. He, conveniently, lives in France. Hating Brexit doesn't equal hating Britain. Quite the opposite. In fact, supporting brexit is a bigger demonstration of hate because not only you're condemning the country to uncertainty at best but also because you *hate* a large percentage of its residents (you know what I'm talking about) Therefore, it's a bit rich for you to be preaching about hate.

"Also I never said anywhere on this thread that people should be forced to leave, (if you can find where I've said it then please quote it). "

Arguing about the semantics of the wording is a good tactic to deflect from the sentiment behind your hateful "proposal". Not gonna work this time.

Again it's to do with your "put up or shut up" attitude. You're trying to FORCE people to either support brexit or to not speak in opposition of brexit (with your: "if you hate brexit so much"). If they're not prepared to do either, then you politely suggest () that they leave the country, thus FORCING them (since that's the only suggested "alternative"). Get it? Well I don't wanna support brexit and I don't wanna stop speaking in opposition of brexit and I have the right to do so (same as you). Plus, I'm staying put, so deal with it! We're not in a communist country where people aren't allowed to speak out in opposition to the regime!

And here comes the juicy bit: since when voting "remain" meant that we were choosing between either the UK *or* the EU? Is that what your understanding was? Because if it was, I'm pleased to tell you: you were (and are) wrong. Hence, your "if you hate brexit do much, fuck off" (I deliberately paraphrased to include your sentiment ) is baseless.

" It's people like you who need to stop (remoaning).

Likewise.

Btw, try to remember that free speech is not just the brexiteers' right/privillege (I could have used "brextremists" to match your "remoaners" but, unlike you, I find such things disrespectful and unnecessary, regardless of how strongly I disagree with someone. It's only when people run out of valid arguments that they resort to such petulance).

As for the "sore losers" part, most of us left that kind of talk at the playground decades ago. Grown ups use grown up talk. Time you joined us

P.S. @everyone: can't we just agree to disagree? Do we have to argue with such intensity? What would stop (or, at least, limit) the divisions is if we tried to understand (not "accept" but simply understand) each other's positions through peaceful discussion rather than trying to compete/score points/convert or gag those who have a different opinion to ours. Is ego really that important to us? Let's be honest: no one, no matter what, is gonna change anyone's else's opinion on the matter through arguing on here, therefore no point in trying (peacefully or otherwise)

Where did he say [remainers] "hate the UK"?

He actually said "hate Brexit".

What you wrote and what you may have meant are at best ambiguous.

"Turning that on its head, Remoaners have said some derogatory things about the UK since the vote to leave in June 2016. If Remoaners hate it so much why do they want to stay here? Wouldn't they be better off going to live elsewhere?"

If you would like ro argue about detail then so be it. The primary subject of the second sentence is the UK hence so is the following reference to "it". Hence the conclusion to be drawn is that remainers hate the UK.

Regardless of this interpretation you then go on to imply that not wishing to leave the EU implies that remainers prefer the EU over the UK. What is your justification of this? Is criticism of Brexit or the government or the country that we live in disloyal? You regularly criticise remain politicians and previous governments.

Is opposition to a position that you support not allowed Centaur? You claim to support democracy. Is this not a fundamental principle of it? I know that you see a 4% margin as "overwhelming" but statistically that is very difficult to defend.

Living in a country and voting on its future status and then continuing to live there is very different to living abroad and benefiting from a set of circumstances which you wish to deny other people.

What I would invite you to stop doing is behaving as if opposing Brexit and continuing to oppose it is in any way undemocratic or unpatriotic.

I would also invite you not to associate me with positions that other people have taken. I have no interest in defending them just I would not expect you to answer for anyone else.

What I would like you to do is accept that those who voted remain did so because they believe that it is the best thing for the UK.

I certainly do not doubt that is the motivation of most, if not all, leave voters.
