Yet more bullshit from companies pandering to ideas without realy meaning it ?
Surely everyone knows it was going to happen eventually but why does it have to take 7 bloody years ? It should be now |

I take it you are referring to the proposed reducing of plastic packaging?
They could say that they'd do it next year but it probably wouldn't happen. Do it once and do it right , and glad to see that we are taking a global lead on this. |

I was chatting to someone last night about May's plan to add a V for veterans to drivers licences that is going to take 4 or 5 years apparently!
WWII only took 6 years and saw the invention of the atomic bomb, the jet engine and radar. |

Yes and it usually only tak s them a few months to organise and good pay increase for mp’s as well
Seriously though surely it would not take 7 years to do a complete turn around on plastic |

Infrastructure for a start
For example we only have 3 recycling plants in the entire UK that can separate cardboard from plastic... as In all the coffee cups you get from Starbucks and Costa

"Why the embarrassed face?
Are you doubting the intelligence of a developing country?

The embarrassed face was for Centaur and is misguided belief that the UK must be leading the world in every single sector or issue. |

You love putting words in other people's mouths don't you. I've never said any such thing, not on this thread or any other thread. |

42 large businesses and 15 organisations have signed up to the UK Plastic Pact. Industry led, and with ambitious targets to eliminate unnecessary plastic usage, 100% recycle, reuse or compost plastic packaging and 70% of plastic packaging to be recyclable, reusable or compostable.
Which other country has such groundbreaking commitments then? |

I believed the 5p tax on plastic bags paid by stores was to disentuise the use of plastic bags making paper bags more competitive but big buisness passed it on to customers and continued with plastic follow the money nothing will change |

It would take a significant amount of time because of the size of material we're talking about. Possibly hundreds of companies will have to gear up for this change. There'll be suppliers, recyclers, new distribution as well as QA and all the other boring bits.
Its also one of these targets that they'll get closer to every year so the impact will be felt before the deadline. And I would imagine they've padded the deadline a bit so that worst case they hit it on time but best case scenario they get another round of good publicity when they hit it early. |
