So the Tories have shafted the Clyde ship yard workers by opening a £1billion for military ships to international tender

i dont expect anyone on here to give a shit about those Clyde workers and what they were told if they voted no its the UK union at any cost and that means willing to lie

Kinky... you do know these are not the same contracts that are already going to the Clyde don’t you!

And that the Clyde shipbuilders have a full order book till 2024....

And just because they are going out to tender it doesn’t mean they have to take the lowest bid...and the can use the national security clause in eu law to give them to a British builder...

Because heaven forbid those contracts go to Merseyside or barrow or Falmouth or Portsmouth etc...

At this stage all the tendering process will tell people is potentially how much and what timescale

This is what global trading is all about. You can't cherry pick - just having all the good bits! It's up to the shipyard to put in the best tender. That's the way of business - nothing to do with politics or party - just about the best deal!

Warships will be built in the UK but RFA tankers can be built abroad if it is a better bid.

UK yards are free to bid for this work.

There are many many industries that have been decimated by the Tories and labour.

My own trade (carpenter) has changed so much since I became qualified in the 80's .

How many carrillion worker's did you give a shit about? And the many building companies that have gone tits up ten's of thousands of jobs (not hundreds) gone many never to return to the building trade.

You talk about people not giving a crap well there's few industries that have been obliterated as much as the building trade since the Tories decided everyman should be self employed.

You talk about it not being fair well I suggest that you walk around every large building site in the UK and I guarantee that most large projects will have around 70% of worker's who are non UK citizens.

Can't see many people complaining about that? And what about the fishing industry the percentage is probably higher.

My point is it's not just Scotland that have been lied to.

The tender is for 3 fleet auxiliary ships for the new aircraft carriers that will be in service before 2024.

Do you expect the Royal Navy to wait Kinky?

Now that someone has given a bit more detail (e.g. fleet auxillary) I've found the story.

Put them out to tender by all means but only to English shipyards.

By the time they've been built Scotland will be independent and only need a blow up dinghy for it's three-man navy.

As they are not warships so were not due to be built on the Clyde.

The Clyde yard can render for the work if they want to.

BAE were never going to bid for the RFA work. The yards are full to capacity until the mid 2030s, and these ships are required mid 2020s.

But here's the clincher. These are big ships, 40000 plus tonnnes, and the slips at Govan are too small!
