... still the party of law and order, and defence?

Under Tory lead governments there have been huge cuts to the Police, the prison service and the military.

The Army is now at its smallest size since the Napoleonic wars, British ISTAR assets near completion were bulldozed, only to be re-purchased a few years later at great expense from the Americans. Search and Rescue functions performed by the RAF and RN were privatised which lead to redundancies (Inc to Prince William), and has lead to the loss of a military capability, Combat Search and Rescue (CSAR). Tornado squadrons that were earmarked for destruction had to be given temporary reprieve so that they could complete a bombing campaign in Syria and we would have no dedicated ground attack aircraft without them. Our Harrier fleet was sold to the USMC for pennies, leaving the fleet air arm and our new carriers without fixes wing assets for years until the F35 enters service.

A leaked Home Office report today says that police cuts have lead to a fall in convictions and a rise in violent crime. Something we have seen play out this week in London. May was told that cuts to policing would increase the threat of terrorism and that's exactly what has happened. Cuts of 4000 prison officers has lead to an increase in suicides and attacks with many officers feeling unsafe and no longer in control.

So are they still the law and order, and defence party?

Prince William wasn't made redundant. He left the RAF after over seven years in the military, to persue other interests.

His final RAF mission was in October 2015 with 22 Squadron, which went on to operate for another two full years.

The tories are a party of the rich and for the rich they dont give a toss for anyone else as can be seen by their cuts to all vital services

You think Labour are any better, think back and guess why they were voted out of running the country.

England does not have a party worth voting for.

No.

I would say their chickens are coming home to roost but the roost has already been privatised, asset stripped and sold off!

But then are any of the opposition parties any better?

I agree that Labour are no better, but that wasn't the question.

Someone else managed to decipher it.

You do get confused easily though. Bless

Of course, you may just see pedantry as a "victory" in which case, congratulations!

I voted for Pete Wishart in last election, I am at this moment unsure if I will vote in another election, undecided.

obviously I will continue to do all I can to see independence in my lifetime

Regardless of the consequences if it became apparent that they would be negative for most people?

Scotland have the SNP to vote for and although I do not agree with all they do, they still have Scotland's interests at heart

.

that's why they have been voted into power in Scotland.

They stopped being the party of law and order and defence under Camaron but they are still better on defence than Labour by about 250%.

Howvever on law and order I think even Labour beat them, there is no party of law and order in this country,if there was I would vote for them.

UK Defence spending has been rising steadily since the late 1990s, with only a slight dip in 2013. Estimates have it being at an all time high in 2020.

A correction to post 2 in this thread. Prince William's last sortie for the RAF was in October 2013 and not 2015.

Hit the nail on the head! However why is it so bad? Could it be we now have career politicians? They only have to do 15 yrs as am MP and they have a massive pension pot of £900k and if they do 20yrs they have over a £1.2m. So they just look to keep their very lucrative job and all the perks!

Career politicians are THE problem.

Far too many (from all parties) get themselves a safe seat when in their 30's or 40's then clutter up the back benches for decades.

Now that there are fixed term parliaments I think that a two term limit should apply to all MP's who haven't made it to cabinet or shadow cabinet.

It's high time the Lords was de-cluttered as well.

Career politicians or ambitious politicians?

Nothing wrong with 'career' politicians who put working on behalf of their constituents before any promotion prospects.

It is usually the MPs who make it to cabinet level that have been 'tainted'.

The party system is one of the problems, at local government and parliamentary level.

You just have to attend a local council meeting to see it. A few will speak out if they feel what is being proposed is wrong but most meekly toe the party line.
