So will the SNP actually use the mandate they claim to have? If they don't within this Scottish Parliament, what will it mean for them and the people who voted for them because of their promise of holding a referendum?

If Indy was good for Scotland in 2014 it should be good for the country every day.

If the UK recieved a great deal from the eu would the snp really want to stay in the UK ?????

Morning mate, being an independence party we all know they want to break away from the uk, this was all brought on by the tories by having a brexit referendum and gave the snp the opportunity to get a mandate sooner than they wanted or expected ,i personally dont think we will get a good deal and there will prob be another referendum before march next year

They said:

"We believe that the Scottish

Parliament should have the right to

hold another referendum if there

is clear and sustained evidence

that independence has become the

preferred option of a majority of

the Scottish people – or if there is

a significant and material change in

the circumstances that prevailed in

2014, such as Scotland being taken

out of the EU against our will." P.23

So the 2nd part applies in this case.

We all know manifestos either promise things a political party cannot deliver and/or get ripped up once a party gets into power.

The SNP are no different.

Mandates come from a party laying out what they will do in government before they get elected in a document called a manifesto.

This and any other opinion poll is irrelevant.

So how will the SNP know there is clear and sustained evidence that independence had become the preferred option of a majority of the Scottish people, particularly when they got this so spectacularly wrong in 2014?

Maybe they have employed Cambridge Analytica...

Yes 34% no 57 %.

To be honest as we are along way from another referendum at the moment it is pointless.

All it proves since Nov there has not been a large material change either way.

So you disagree with Cask then?

But again, it's a so called mandate because the power to hold a legally binding referendum is not devolved to the Scottish Parliament.

2014, such as Scotland being taken

out of the EU against our will." P.23

So the 2nd part applies in this case.

What part of "when the time is right" do you not understand CLCC

you shout and want things done your way right away and always think you are right.

There will be another referendum, wait and see,

have patience, "when the time is right".

why don't you travel up and join us on our march in May

The bit where it say "or":

or if there is

a significant and material change in

the circumstances that prevailed in

2014, such as Scotland being taken

out of the EU against our will."

And because of that material change they have a mandate to have another referendum and will decide when it will be once we see what sort of deal the uk get from brexit talks, its pretty simple to understand really

So you disagree with Cask then?

But again, it's a so called mandate because the power to hold a legally binding referendum is not devolved to the Scottish Parliament. "

So you think Westminster would try block it ?

"So will the SNP actually use the mandate they claim to have? If they don't within this Scottish Parliament, what will it mean for them and the people who voted for them because of their promise of holding a referendum?

not at all, they said "when the time is right"

They said:

"We believe that the Scottish

Parliament should have the right to

hold another referendum if there

is clear and sustained evidence

that independence has become the

preferred option of a majority of

the Scottish people – or if there is

a significant and material change in

the circumstances that prevailed in

whats all this claim nonsense, of course they have a mandate, if you remember back, there we were putting in place the means to have a referendum and then at that very time your beloved May decided to call an "off the cuff" election

.

your thread is simply to stir shit, we up here in Scotland know there will be another referendum "when the time is right"

Firstly, it's not my thread, secondly it's a claimed mandate, because they put something in their manifesto for the Scottish Parliament, which is not devolved to Scotland.

Why not stick to the ops original post about the polls

I just checked the Evening Times poll which was just a rehash of a Sunday Times poll

Yes 34% no 57 %.

To be honest as we are along way from another referendum at the moment it is pointless.

All it proves since Nov there has not been a large material change either way.

The online one was 77% yes 23%no mate seen it online this morning "

I had a look and all I could find for the Evening Times was the article from the 8 th of April and it was 57 % against and 43 % for.

I did make a typo and say yes was at 34 %....my mistake.

I didn't say that, but it's not a power that the Scottish Parliament has.

How would you like it if Westminster MPs for let's say the Tories put in their manifesto that they were going to start charging for prescriptions in Scotland, and introduce tuition fees in Scotland. Do you think people in Scotland would be pissed off that they were doing something that is the responsibility of the Scottish Parliament?

SNP MSP Pete Wishart, who isn't shy about dishing out abuse on twitter, is now complaining about being attacked on twitter by pro-indy supporters after saying that he doesn't believe the time is right for an indy referendum. He points out his majority of 10,000 was cut to 21 at the last election and doesn't believe there is an appetite for it.

He's finally owning up to what we've known all along about the cybernats

Remember before you answer tell people how you believe England should get the biggest say on how the UK is run

We have been all trying to tell you once the final deal on brexit it known then the Scottish government to decide on what is best for Scotland thats what they are in government to do and if its a hard brexit then get ready as the will be 100% a referendum on Scottish independence you may not like it but tough blame the Tories for pulling this UK under threat of breaking up again

Have it tomorrow as far as I am concerned !!!!

Again are people not listening ?

When the final brexit deal is known then the Scottish government will decide on whats best for Scotland if thats a referendum on Scottish independence so be it

You will still be able vote no Greenoakmale

Did you ever think that some people may want to hear what the final brexit deal is before deciding on if they would vote YES or NO to independence for Scotland ?

Brexit is a very big deal and could see Scotland being damaged in a UK hard brexit

But then again you keep saying you aint no unionist right ? not that you have ever on here should you are open minded to indpendence you have shot doon everything about indpendence so sorry if i dont believe pish!!

So you are saying if it is a good brexit deal the snp abandon the indyref2 ???

Obviously both of us know it won't be a great deal.

Once indyref2 is called I will await the opportunity to be convinced."

1.Heres a thought Greenoakmale ask the SNP you have a an SNP mp in Inverclyde

2. Right so if there is no good brexit deal which you seem to think there wont be the SNP have every right to use the mandate correct ?

"Lmao

CLCC start reading get your glasses on lol

I have always siad it the people of Scotland that will decide when they want a referendum

Incase its escaped your memory the people of Scotland elected the SNP giving the SNP a mandate

Then March 2017 the Scottish parilament debated and voted democractically on the section 30 order thats a mandate from the Scottish parilament that goes along with the peoples mandate duh!!!!!

Your PM shat a brick and claimed ''now is not the time'' to try and stop independence being talked about oh well boohoo it didnt work lmao

Hmm, my head is still spinning from the speed of your U Turn!

So please can you just clarify your position for me? Do you believe

1. The Scottish government will decide on whats best for Scotland if thats a referendum on Scottish independence so be it.

OR

2. The people of Scotland that will decide when they want a referendum.

1 or 2?

CLCC read again

The people of Scotland ''ELECTED THE SNP '' the people of Scotland gave the SNP a mandate to deliver on a referendum on independence

The people of Scotland decided they want a referendum

The Scottish government have been clear they will decide whats best for Scotland when the final deal is known to deliver on that mandate from the people

I get your crapping yourself and the thought Scotland and ''only'' Scotland will decide its own future

"

So who decides the timing? The people or the government?

Oh we will Greenoakmale just didnt shit yourself eh lol

Oh and thank you for bringing up Pete Wishart this will be great to rip you a new one lol

So Greenoakmale you were the one weeks ago claiming the SNP members are not allowed to go against SNP policy they have to sign saying they wouldnt disagree with the SNP

So Pete Wishart thinks we should wait till after 2021 and win a new mandate on having a referendum on independence

Welll he has the right to his opinion but fact is he is not leader of the SNP or FM

So i dont agree with them the SNP have a mandate for this term in government in Scotland

I believe Pete is afraid of his seat more there you go me being honest see SNP dont tell people that cannot disagree

You are not man enough to admit that it's the government, despite saying that earlier in the thread!

Instead you want me to answer a question that you have asked, and I have answered at least 20 times before. Even if I answer it yet again for you, you will still run like a coward away from my question like you always do. Your inability to answer this, or a myriad of questions put to you shows how hollow your posts are.

As jim sillars wife the late Margo MacDonald said of the snp

Only two people in the party ( snp ) can count past ten and I was one of them !!!

I believe Pete is afraid of his seat more there you go me being honest see SNP dont tell people that cannot disagree

made up bullshit by unionists like yourself

I think you are confusing me with someone else !!!

I have told you many times go for your indyref2 any time you want !!!!

It is a matter of public record that at the party conference it was agreed not to go against the party policy and not to critisise in public.

Read what i put and deny that ?

Also how does one become a Scottish Labour party member ? Have you tried because it redirects you onto the UK Labour party and joining them but what if a Labour voter in Scotland doesnt agree with Corbyn he or she wants to become a Scottish Labour party member ?

It doesnt exist correct ? So its fraud and misleading people the more people that know this the better then you will be able to see Scottish Labour is a branch office or accounting unit of the UK Labour party

that was all bullshit and a wee stunt Kezia and Corbyn pulled about their fake document that they didnt should the public of this so called party being autonoums

I can see why you dont want people to know this shit wouldnt want the voters seeing the truth of how they are being lied to in Scotland for unionist gain

From what I have been told by friends in Paisely it is doubtful she will stand again and if she does she will not be returned to The Palace of Westminster.

"So will the SNP actually use the mandate they claim to have? If they don't within this Scottish Parliament, what will it mean for them and the people who voted for them because of their promise of holding a referendum?

not at all, they said "when the time is right"

They said:

"We believe that the Scottish

Parliament should have the right to

hold another referendum if there

is clear and sustained evidence

that independence has become the

preferred option of a majority of

the Scottish people – or if there is

a significant and material change in

the circumstances that prevailed in

2014, such as Scotland being taken

out of the EU against our will." P.23

So the 2nd part applies in this case.

What part of "when the time is right" do you not understand CLCC

you shout and want things done your way right away and always think you are right.

There will be another referendum, wait and see,

have patience, "when the time is right".

why don't you travel up and join us on our march in May

The bit where it say "or":

or if there is

a significant and material change in

the circumstances that prevailed in

2014, such as Scotland being taken

out of the EU against our will."

whats all this claim nonsense, of course they have a mandate, if you remember back, there we were putting in place the means to have a referendum and then at that very time your beloved May decided to call an "off the cuff" election

.

your thread is simply to stir shit, we up here in Scotland know there will be another referendum "when the time is right"

The online one was 77% yes 23%no mate seen it online this morning

I had a look and all I could find for the Evening Times was the article from the 8 th of April and it was 57 % against and 43 % for.

I did make a typo and say yes was at 34 %....my mistake."

Mark check evening times online poll how would readers vote 4yrs on from first indyref 77% yes 23% no from 7288 polled the one you quoted is the sunday times

Glasgow ish

I never really like the polls the sample ~1053 people across the Scottish electorate.

It sort of smacks of 8 out of 10 users said this face cream was the bee's knees, (sample size 21).

However, folk like John Curtis seen to think they are valid. So who am I to really care that much.

As another poster stated online polls are too easy to manipulate.

I could vote 5 times with my phone's and laptop and iPad.

As I stated earlier I don't care much for polls.

The panelbase poll only tells us nothing much has changed.

I think this was posted was simply because kinky has decided two polls were great !!!

No what i have said is polls never ever tell the true figure

Unionists are afraid of knowing the true figure they are hiding behind bushes ready for a jobby lol

It would be great publicity if Westminster said no.

She can then pick a next date and if that is refused them it would be even better.

Not a word from saint Nicola at all. Not a peep.

So can you explain who all these big bad unionists that are scared of another boring devisive referendum? ??

Preferably in alfabetical order

I agree Independence should be, and is good for Scotland, sadly, some have blinkers on, and others are fooled by Westminster lies, and indeed it is not only Westminster that tells lies, you also have to put up with the likes of BBC and other broadcasting organisations that deliver lies for their own profit and not for the good of the Scots who have the vote.

.

I suspect you are also a victim to this, perhaps one day your mind will clear of the Westminster lies and the corruption of broadcasting companies and tabloids

To put it simply the brexit is a mess so after indy no one would have been able to give complete guarantees over the long term on anything including pensions.

The treasury did state that were safe but who knows what would have happened next.

At the Smith commision swinny was offered pension control but ran away from taking charge of them as fast as he possibly could.

Labour could not "offer" any powers, as these powers were not theirs to offer.

Do you mean what did they propose?

Scotland should have the power to raise 40% of its budget, through increasing the tax-varying powers to become available through the Scotland Act, from 10p to 15p - potentially raising an extra £2bn

Three-quarters of basic rate income tax would be under the control of the Scottish Parliament, which would also have the power to raise higher rates of tax.

VAT, national insurance contributions, corporation tax, capital gains tax, fuel duty, air passenger duty and inheritance tax should remain reserved to Westminster.

The Barnett formula for distributing public spending around the nations of the UK should continue.

You are making the mistake of thinking everyone wanted more power at holyrood.

As I stated before swinny ran away from the difficult areas like pensions !!!

In 2014 the snp were gonna set up a new country in months.

How are they doing so far on the benifits agency that is only gonna mirror the UK one.

How much is the new benifits agency gonna cost the Scottish taxpayer ???

Ooopps we don't know as no one in the snp can count.

How is the new utilities company coming along ???

After spending three hundred thousand quid of tax payers money on consultants it is recomended not to go ahead !!!

Greenoakmale the question i am asking is .....

What powers in the Smith Commission were Labour " proposing" to be devolved to Scotland name each one ?

Now if your proud of Labour then go on dont shy away from answering and naming each power Labour wanted devolved in the Smith Comission

I know for a fact its a very very short list then would rather the powers be kept in the hands of the Tories in Westminster than give Scotland real devolved power

But hey you enjoy the Scottish Labour branch not getting anywhere near government in Scotland

I bet you wont answer and go on with your bullshit not everyone wanted these powers you know fine well i am not asking that you will find any piss way of getting out of answering too ashamed Of Labour not want powers devolved and wanting them kept in Westminster

Greenoak....

since "someone" here is rubbishing the smith commision that lead to extra powers... maybe you should ask if "someone" is disappointed in deputy first minister john sweeney, since he was on the 10 person committee....

i think that would be a fair question to ask?

Fabio thank you for the link.

Also as well as swinny the mighty colousus of politics Linda Fabiani was there.

From what came out of the meeting was swinny blushed every time f abiani opened her mouth.

It was likened to taking your wife to your bosses house and she gets really pissed in front of all your work mates and boss

As I stated before swinny ran away from the pension issue faster than Usan Bolt !!!!

Big Labour pow-wow in Scotland this week, to consider changing stance on a 2nd referendum.

Plenty speculation they'll:

a) sever ties with Labour in England

b) change policy to support a federal UK

c) back a second referendum with a federal UK as one of the options.

They need to do something to avoid becoming irrelevant.

"They need to do something to avoid becoming irrelevant."

They're already irrelevant in Scotland. The only way they'll get anywhere near power in England again, is to become more right-wing/Tory.

Eventually, having no other way back into power in the UK, they will do that; which will kill them off entirely, up here.

If you're Scots, why vote Tory-lite if you want the real thing? If you don't want Tory politics of any kind, that narrows it down a lot.

What happened in the North of England and the Midlands at the last GE is the same thing that happened up here almost a decade ago; voters got fed up with the Labour Party ignoring them.

Labour learned fuck all when Scotland rejected them; partly because they didn't care. How we vote up here is irrelevant, in the FPTP system, in determining the outcome of a UK GE - as the last three have amply demonstrated.

I want Scotland to be independent; but, right now, the best chance of that happening is to bet Dominic Cummings that he can't make it happen.
