So it's the start of the new tax year - why? How many countries have a tax year starting in April? Most have Jan -Dec - surely makes sense?

Another anomaly why do we have RHD cars only the British Isles are the only countries in Europe to do this. Sweden the only other country changed in the 1960's. Does this make UK card more expensive to make?

What other anomalies can you think of - other than currencies?

I think the passing each other on the left game from the fact that when on horse back it made your sword arm one the right side for fighting your opponents charging at you head on.

I could always be wrong mind

I think RHD cars are cheaper.

LHD cars can be exported and registered easier as all the countries in Europe are LHD.

Certainly here in Spain the price of used cars is stupid compared to the UK.

35% of the world drive on the left. Japan, India, Australia, New Zealand are all on the left.

Europe went to the other side due to the French Revolution and the Napoleonic conquests. All to do with peasants having to use the right hand side so the rich could have the left.

The USA changed in order to get rid of anything "British" after their revolution.

Why does Jan-Dec makes sense? Not everyone uses the Gregorian calendar.

The UK has a strange mixture of imperial and metric measurements.

Well as we do then it would keep it within the year. For example 2017 would be everything in the year, as opposed to stretching to 2017/18.

With regards to driving - being geographically located in Europe the British Isles including Malta & Cyprus are the only ones on the left - again the minority.

Spain, Portugal, and Ireland have different railway gauges. They are in the minority on that issue.

Central

I think the pricing of vehicles is only about the manufacturers charging as much as they wish to and with several million cars in the UK, it's a potentially large enough market to be profitable: especially when close to the Irish republic.

Changing our road systems over to right hand drive, is I think something that was considered but appeared prohibitively expensive.

The old new year's day was March 25th but adjustments to the calendars meant that the year was moved to April - where it has remained ever since in the UK, I believe.

LHD/RHD is just the start.

In the US cars are LHD with the speedometer in MPH & odometer in miles. In Canada cars are LHD with the speedometer in km/h & the odometer in kilometers.

Australia cars are RHD with the speedometer in km/h & the odometer in kilometers.

The UK isn't so strange after all.

Aren't we always being told minorities are to be celebrated, not forced to be homogenised?

It's not about forcing anyone - it's about the differences and why they originated?

Is it more about "we want to be different" we want to be superior?

That's correct. They also carried their birds of prey on their left. Hence why the glove is always worn on the left

Most is historical.

There is a cost to change and is it worthwhile? Who pays and what's the benefit?

They may have the steering wheel on the opposite side but it’s still clutch brake then accelerator from left to right .

Most American cars are automatic and don't have a clutch pedal.
