Trump is about to do, what Obama could only dream off;

US President Donald Trump has told a group of lawmakers not to be so "petrified" of the powerful gun lobby the National Rifle Association (NRA).

In a break from his party's stance on gun control, President Trump urged lawmakers to come up with a comprehensive bill on gun reform.
.
He suggested expanding background checks for gun buyers and raising the legal age to buy rifles to 21 from 18.
.
He held the meeting in the wake of a school shooting that left 17 dead.
.
Mr Trump's change of tack on gun control has taken many lawmakers and commentators by surprise. The New York Times said the president had "stunned lawmakers", while CNN reported that Republicans were "a bit unsettled"

"Some of you are petrified of the NRA," he added during the televised bipartisan summit on gun safety.
During the meeting, the president seemed to back:
?an expansion of background checks before people can buy guns
?allowing police to confiscate guns from people thought to be dangerous, without a court order
?raising the minimum age for buying assault rifles from 18 to 21
?arming teachers

Lobbyists will make sure what he wants gets watered down in the name of money....erm I mean freedom...
Im not pro arming teachers but anything that slows firearms going into circulation is better than now't at this point.
Kudos if he can get the more sensible ideas through |

That orange bag of shit plans of arming teachers just went to shit today.
An armed teacher in a school in Georgia just had a breakdown down began shooting and barricades himself in a classroom.
I've been thinking maybe we should arm all students because the only thing that can stop a bad teacher with a gun is a good student with a gun..

Not looking to start one of those debates again but look, you can hardly say Obama had massive failing especially in his first term. Dont get me wrong, signifigant failings are on his record but lets look and see what he had to deal with in his first term.
Massive humanitarian crisis of flooding in the Southern states.
Immediate impacts of the financial crisis and US housing bubble.
Weaker stock market than what Trump has had to desl with.
Greater unemployment rates at the start of his term.
People say when youre at rock bottom you can only go up. But I find with nations and individuals its so much harder to drag yourself out of the dirt and back even just onto your knees.
So I think its worth looking at Obama's administration and saying "I there was a more suitable leader at the time, they would have been elected."

Former presidents have had most of their planned changes prevented mostly by the Republican party, who know which way their bread has been buttered. At least Obama had proposed more meaningful improvements, compared to this pathetic sop. He really is a man of the people, compared to this specimen. |

about time he came round... its only a 97-3 issue with the general public.... heck its a 97-3 issue with NRA members!.... its only the high brass and donors putting pressure on republicans ....

nope... not quite.... what he ACTUALLY proposed was that instead of due process taking place where the courts/states have to prove someone has a mental issue before taking away the guns, because its time consuming and expensive.... he said the states should said take away the guns and the person should then have to prove they don't have a disqualifying factor/s

florida has an insane law where you had to be 21 to own a handgun.... but you could be 18 to own an assualt rifle....
anyway private business may end up in effect doing this for him.... Dicks sporting goods, and Walmart have both said they will raise the age that any of their customers will be able to by assault rifles from 18 to 21........

1) most teachers.... and most parents as well, actually are against this idea....
2) some states already allow this... it has show not to really make a difference.... in fact there was a case in oregon where the shoter shot the gun carrying security officer first before he shot up others.....
3) you didn't hear about the georgia teach who shot up the kids in class a day or so ago then?

trump wasn't scentenced to 5 years gaol for consientious objection and didn't have his licence to conduct his legitimate business taken away from him because of his skin colour ... he just shat his pants and bummed out on serving his country to be fair |

You are lauding Trump for backing legislation that is pure virtue signalling to try to defuse the huge change in public opinion.
The NRA and its backers/purchased legislators are scared for the first time. This is the minimum they think that they can get away with.
