Corbyn brexit speech
Jump to: Newest in thread
Well , what a load of tosh , yet again Corbyn shows why he has not a cat in hells chance of ever getting into power .
He says there’s no need for competition on who delivers our parcels and post , as we only have one letterbox . Ffs .... by that way of thinking there should only be one supermarket in every town .
His speech actually included a statement about the Middle East insomuch as that we shouldn’t get involved . It’s a bit late now isn’t it , thanks to his labour predecessors .
Oh my days , I could go on forever , and the questions at the end are farcical . He totally isn’t answering any that he doesn’t want to ! |

Labour would seek to negotiate a new EU customs union with us.I think he is right here and a number of Tories agree with him and will vote against the government on this when labour calls for an amendment asking for a new customs union.Ruining the PMs plans.
He's playing the game better than TM. |

A refreshing change of tone about the overall Brexit message but it smacks of opportunism to me.
The cynic in me is absolutely of the opinion that this is nothing more than a tactic to force a no-confidence vote and a subsequent collapse of the Government followed by another General Election. |

That's exactly what it is. Corbyn is relying on Conservative rebels like Anna Soubry and Ken Clarke to walk across the floor.

It pisses me off that front bench, leading politicians are still using phrases like "access to the single market", everyone has access, North Korea has access to the single for fucks sake.
They should stop treating the public like morons. |

I think corbyn has done exactly the same thing that Blair did to the people who voted for him.
He has lied too and betrayed those people. Can you trust anything that comes out of corybn's mouth now......certainly not.
However personally I never have and never will trust him. |

It will not matter either or because the EU will say it’s all or nothing and so we will come to another stalemate |

Why has he lied to a betrayed people? Your reply is just so typical of Brexiters. You are simply unable or unwilling to see anything other than a headline and without reading any further or examining what he actually said - you form an opinion.
It is no wonder that this country is like it is when so many people are not even prepared to try to listen, learn or understand anything.
He wants to form a new customs union after Brexit. How is that betraying anyone? HE accepts Brexit and simply wants a more pragmatic version that the Conservatives are offering. |

He may well get it since the amendment that is now being backed is the one put forward by those Torres wanting the soft brexit
JC has planted himself on the lawn the hard brexiteers forced may to leave..
As strategic moves go... it’s a blinder, and places clear water between labour and the tories on the vision of the future,

The only mandate is to leave the EU.
Corbyn, for all the attempts to smear him as some sort of extremist, now looks like the moderate pursuing the path of least resistance.
The Conservative Party, its strings being pulled by ideological English/British nationalists, now risks looking like the extremists.
Cue some rabid condemnation of treacherous Trot - insert your own insult - from the extremist media.

Ken Clarke may well cross the floor, he hasn't got anything to lose.
As for the rest, political suicide springs to mind. There's a lot more manoeuvring to come, especially as there are more speeches to come this week.
But you are right. Battlelines are now hardening. |

That's not the House of Commons, you'll find that's the Conservative party, who currently are the government.
They are falling apart at the seams, just to having dangerous extremists within that party. A minority of very dangerous people are making the government vacillate every which way. Meanwhile, the UK is behind in its brexit 'progress' - they need to have this wrapped up in the autumn, to be on track, to reject or accept the EU agreed offer. Due to their swivel eyed, frothing extremists, they're just ambling along, trying to prevent the tory party from internal combustion. Sod the voters and the country, they are 100% in self-preservation mode.
The Labour party has had the greatest coherence during the whole process, now getting praise from the CBI and Institute of Directors as well as the Conservative Chancellor, Osborne. |

Absolutely spot on. As Brexit backing Labour MP Frank Field said yesterday in a newspaper article any attempt by the Labour leadership to keep the UK in the customs union will be a betrayal of the EU referendum result and will be a betrayal of the Labour party general election manifesto. Corbyn has ratted (the term Frank Field used) on the traditional Labour working class voters in the Midlands, the North of England and Wales who voted Leave and as Frank Field said yesterday this move will cost Labour a heavy price at the next election as those Labour leave voters will take revenge at the ballot box by rejecting Corbyn.
If Corbyn thinks he can stay in a customs union with the EU and still make his own trade deals around the rest of the world he is living in cloud cookoo land and is delusional in the extreme. The EU have made it crystal clear those 2 things are not compatible and that's why Theresa May opted to leave the customs union to keep the Brexit option of making our own trade deals with the rest of the world. Corbyn thinks he can have cake and eat it, but as Tory MP David Liddington said on the news today the EU would never accept such a proposal and he knows because he's already had first hand experience of negotiations with the EU alongside David Cameron when he tried to negotiate a reformed deal for the UK. Corbyn has just sold millions of Labour leave voters down the river, I said on here during the general election Labour couldn't be trusted on Brexit and now Corbyn has proved it.
Time for Theresa May to call these Tory rebels bluff and take it to a vote in parliament, I say bring it on.
Political suicide if they side with Corbyn because it will bring down the government, if that happens then so be it. I don't fancy Corbyn's chances much in another general election now he's betrayed millions of Labour leave Brexit voters. |

I think his odds have gone down considerably now he's just betrayed millions of Labour leave Brexit voters a few hours ago. He has sold them down the river and broken commitments he made in the general election Labour party manifesto to leave the single market and the customs union. |

Is this the manifesto that lost the last election, that they therefore have no mandate to follow? That one?
The only ones that have to follow their manifesto are the Tories. |

I’d be wary of the argument that Labour voters who wanted “out” will abandon Corbyn.
It is a very simplistic argument that implies the only thing they care about is the EU.
It was as much about poking the elite in the eye with a great big stick.
Free university places, renationalisation of the NHS, funding for OAPs and social care, free this, free that . . . the things that affect people on a daily basis is where the votes are won and lost in a general election.
Constitutional arguments about the EU are for anoraks like us

The best leaders, showing their intelligence, will be those who are able to take the pertinent decisions and changes, even if in contrast to the past, all based on the context of where the world is at any given point.
It's clear that the conservatives have fully messed up the brexit process, so it would be appropriate to plan based upon now. I don't know to what extent he has changed his strategic plans, as we're just getting a short-term plan outline atm. |

Corbyn doesn't have any government experience either. Neither does his shadow chancellor John McDonnel. The only one endangering the success of Brexit is Corbyn and his attempts to keep the UK in the (or a) customs union which would deny us the ability to strike our own trade deals around the rest of the world. Corbyn is the divisive specimen that needs to be avoided at all costs. |

its not as easy as that....
for example.... boris johnson represents a constituancy that overwhelmly voted remain....
so does iain duncan smith....
so does liam fox......
so does david davies....
chris grayling.....dominic rabb..... john redwood...
teresa villiers not only represented her local constituancy, she was then northern ireland minister... she is an ardent leaver.... but her local area AND her ministeral brief voted remain....
there are labour brexiteers in the same position...... kate hoey, Gisela stewart (who was paraded out by the leave side couldn't win her local area!, she is doing the right thing and standing down!)
so its not a one way thing....
the likes of hiedi allen, and nicky morgan have a bit of cover because their areas Did vote remain, so they can say in any vote they are doing what the majority of THEIR voters decided (regardless of what the mail or telegraph may say!) |

Her said “a customs union”..... a bespoke deal (exactly the words may it used two weeks ago).
He said it would be a customs union that gives us free trade but also must give us the right to negotiate our own trade deals elsewhere. In other words exactly what Junkers, Barnier eat al have said we can never have.
He seriously wants to have his cake and eat it....
Frank Field basically hit the nail on the head when he said it is all just rhetoric and pie in the sky.
Sadly, just like May, Boris and all the rest of the tories.... labour are also talking Shite! |

The Confederation of British Industry (CBI) and the Institute of Directors (IoD) have both stated that this is the right positive direction to be moving in, to support businesses.
The confirmation bias is apparent, when people pop to Fox news and telegraph etc sites for 'information'/propaganda. "
Cherry picking the information that suits your agenda. The British Chambers of commerce business group dismissed Corbyn's speech today as nothing more than playing politics. |

"Well , what a load of tosh , yet again Corbyn shows why he has not a cat in hells chance of ever getting into power .
He totally isn’t answering any that he doesn’t want to !
some idiots will always agree and follow him
Some idiots chose what they want to focus their attention on and believe - this is largely a clear statement that the UK should stay within an agreed customs union with the EU. It's clearly got outstanding support from the active business community and leadership.

Theresa May who campaigned for Remain? That Theresa May? |

If you can call it that? Theresa May was largely non existent throughout the whole referendum campaign. |

The Theresa May who wasn't trustworthy to stand by her convictions and campaign, probably because she had her eye on taking the Prime Ministers job. |

"Any MP who is not following their constituents wishes should be ousted as quick as possible .
its not as easy as that....
for example.... boris johnson represents a constituancy that overwhelmly voted remain....
so does iain duncan smith....
so does liam fox......
so does david davies....
chris grayling.....dominic rabb..... john redwood...
teresa villiers not only represented her local constituancy, she was then northern ireland minister... she is an ardent leaver.... but her local area AND her ministeral brief voted remain....
there are labour brexiteers in the same position...... kate hoey, Gisela stewart (who was paraded out by the leave side couldn't win her local area!, she is doing the right thing and standing down!)
so its not a one way thing....
the likes of hiedi allen, and nicky morgan have a bit of cover because their areas Did vote remain, so they can say in any vote they are doing what the majority of THEIR voters decided (regardless of what the mail or telegraph may say!)"
You can cross Heidi Allen off your list Fabio, she's already rejected Corbyn's proposals. She said after his speech "we won't go near anything in Corbyn's name".
The EU has also rubbished Corbyn's plan calling it "red velvet cake-ism". |

what part of labour not putting their own proposal to parliament did you not get.......
what labour are doing in parliament is supporting an amendment put forward by tories backing a soft brexit.... it won't have a labour name anywhere on the order sheet!
if they vote is won... then the conversations TM will have to then have are going to brought back to the centre, and the hardline brexit i know you want and yern for will be dead.... |

there was talk that some hardline right wingers wanting to turn it into a "no confidence" motion, but can't do that now under the act of parliament law which would need a 2/3rd majority of all mps to force another GE... and there is no way tory mp's will vote for that!
if that vote goes against, what this may do is force the end of may and make her resign as conservative leader |

"Fabio do you think forcing may out will get us a realy good deal with the EU then "
There has never been any possibility of getting anything other than what is on offer. We have all been taken for mugs for the last two years with all the talk of secrets, cards under the table etc etc
It is all just nonsense. The only deals available are those that already exist with outside countries with nothing more than the tiniest of tweaks.
It is a symbol of National embarrassment that this charade has been kept up for so long and still Theresa May is seemingly still intent on delivering a wish list that will end of (probably with her) in (waste) basket No4. |

"Do you think that goes for Corbyn with his A customs union not the customs union then "
Yes. A Customs Union will evolve into the Customs Union which will probably end up including the Single Market because...
If you are going to negotiate a "new" customs union, why not just replicate the one that already exists as it can't really be bettered. The contentious bit thereafter is that once that link is maintained with the EU, why not retain the 2nd link and create maximum protection for existing businesses by staying in the Single Market. This will be contentious because it is the Single market that is about Freedom of movement. The Govt just has to then do what every other country does and effectively monitor inward migration and use the tools that are available to deport people who do not abide by the rules. |

i think her right wing are just awaiting the time to make the "coup"... this would just make it sooner rather than later....
actually perversly, we will probably get a slightly better deal with may in place, because i think if someone like johnson took over i could see there being no deal!
the best thing that could almost happen would be if may went and it ended up splitting the party down the middle to the point where there was a breakaway.... |

Any inward fighting in the government can't be good for the uk it's music to the Eu as soon as we get through brexit then I'd be happy for the tories to implode but not until we are over brexit I agree if boris took charge it would be a hard Brexit tho |

But the problem lies with having an equally divided main opposition party too! |
