This is where the wheels come off Brexit and the whole UK.

This government will crash because of NI. It has no answer to the conundrum after declaring its "red lines".

Brexit has been a complete disaster as an implementation of policy. The Tories need to be hammerer for their completely ham fisted handling of this shambles.

the whole bizarre tory experiment of brexit seems to have been locked in the garage and jacked up on blocks since the offset pmsl .... if there was ever a worlds biggest joke contest the tory handling of it would be tied in first place with the two ronnies fork handle sketch

There will be the usual zealots along soon to say it's all part of the plan to take back control.

Yeah, right

Brexit was sold on "it'll be alright on the night"! It was over simplified by politicians who didn't have a clue about the complexities. Cameron half hinted there could be security problems if we left, did he realise we just gave the green light to the IRA? BORIS said don't be daft do we really think there will be a war in Europe because we leave? Well a civil war looms in the island of Ireland!

"Civil war in Ireland ffs over the top again "

Having served in the provence in crossmaglen & bessbrooke an area often referred to as "cowboy country" I have seen first hand what is bubbling underneath the surface. I remember as though it was yesterday when a rocket hit us and the dead bodies, the smell of death isn't pleasant. There were some sympathizers who cheered when we carried the bodies and injured out.But you know best.....

there is one area that no one should be complacent about and it's NI, the good Friday agreement has by and large kept a lid on the troubles but there have been attacks by some dissidents and lives have been lost..

we start fucking about with the good Friday agreement and who knows what may happen, some who will remember when they were 'players' may just want that type of sick kudos again and memories are short with many scores on both sides still to be settled..

served out there twice in the late 70's and very early 80's and i sincerely hope that the peace there is now is not treated lightly by politicians in Westminster..

And if NI are allowed to stay in Scotland will demand the same.

If this is refused it will be straight to another divisive referendum

Read my lips, Brexit means Brexit. Except when it's a bit of a grey or difficult area.

But it is an [emerald] green issue. One of the reasons why Northern Ireland is not as contentious as it was is because the border has become unnoticeable. If you keep in mind that, as there has never been an immigration border between Great Britain and any part of Ireland, the only reason for there originally being a noticeable border between Northern Ireland and the Republic was because the Republic left the UK customs union when it became independent. It was the customs checks that made the border visible. By 1995, with both Northern Ireland and the Republic being once again in a single customs union, the only reason for a noticeable border was the security threat. By the [emerald] green extremists removing the security threat it's been possible to make the border unnoticeable. If Northern Ireland, after BREXIT, is not in some sort of customs union with the Republic then a noticeable border on the island of Ireland will return and, as happened previously, there is every reason to believe that this will cause resentment in the [emerald] green community in the North.
