JLR Cut Production due to Brexit

JLR have stated that they are cutting production due to Brexit. How many Brexiters want to tell us that JLR are lying and it has nothing to do with Brexit?

Due to Brexit & the future of diesel cars in general.

I am not sure that this is all to do with Brexit. Maybe something also to do with the uncertainty over diesel and the fact that the two specific cars mentioned are diesel powered.

That said, Brexit or fuel confusion, or both it is still at the feet of this shower of incompetents.

It has been reported that the economy will do much better than expected this year.Once again your very selective in what you say.

Vauxalls near me is hoping for an upturn in production this year.

If you want to quote the economy quote both sides or why bother

A yes, Vauxhall Ellesmere Port has such a bright future that in the last 3 months there have been 2 separate redundancy notices. The first 400 in October and then another 250 at the start of this month.

Now considering that in October there were 1800 employed in Ellesmere Port and that means that OVER a third of the workforce have been cut in 3 months I would not be parading this as a positive record. But then I am a realist.

Are you on about the economy forecast on the BBC this morning?

If youvread the report it explains that this year the economy is forecast to be hit LESS THAN expected.

As a Tory ex-minister explained this is due to GLOBAL TRADE being conducted BETTER INTERNATIONALLY and due to some collections of countries (the EU, JAPAN, S.KOREA, CANADA are stated -funnily enough all have recently hashed out trade deals) performing BETTER THAN THEIR FORECASTS.

All commentors who went on Bloomberg today who I saw explained that the UK has done little to help in our economic forecast. We are simply benifiting from the better performance of other nations.

As someone explained, agri and tech products from the EU and EU trade partner nations will be cheaper due to better trade freedoms, as we are a net importer nation, cheaper products will to some extent mitigate the devalue of the sterling and leave most people will a fraction more spending power than expected.

This is expected to last a year tops. Nothing to develop a stratergy on.

JLR have a stock of vehicles that are selling slower than anticipated. It's not a new phenomenon in the automotive industry.

More concerning will be the first Discoverys due to start rolling off the new production line at Nitra, in Slovakia towards the end of this year.

This new production facility is still being investigated by the EU, as alleged "sweeteners" were paid by the Slovak Goverment to JLR's owners, Tata.

The number of Scottish businesses failures has fallen to an eight-year low, according to new figures.

Professional services firm KPMG found there were 832 corporate insolvencies in 2017 - a 15% drop on the previous year and the lowest since 2008

It's strange that brexiteers who are famously patriotic abandon their beliefs when it comes to supporting UK industry. If you want brexit to be a success then you should be buying UK products not Japanese etc. Back Britain and not brag your driving a Toyota when Land Rover have a similar vehicle!

Land Rover always had that iconic image, had a few friends that had them, defenders, sure they could do all that off-road stuff and took a battering, I always laughed at the components and they always looked to me that they had parts borrowed from other BL cars.

I often thought about getting a second hand ex military one.

But I opted for newer Japanese versions. A lot of things sold me, price, reliability, parts, comfort. Yes I can chuck half a tree in the back, carry a sheep, drive in a muddy field, and still travel in comfort on the motorway.

Oh and my Isuzu is pretty damn good at pulling the disco's out of ditch when the townies come out to play in the snow.

Why would a deal done between and American company on one side and a French one on the other have anything to do with the British government?

General Motors made huge cutbacks all over Europe including the total closure of a massive Opel factory at Bochum Germany.

Then they flogged what was left to PSA group.

Yes it is sad that jobs are being shed at Ellesmere Port but be thankful that there still is a factory. Bochum would be glad of it.

Really?

80% of all Land Rovers registered in the UK since 1948 and 75% of all Land Rovers built worldwide are still on the road.

How does Toyoto compare? Not so well I bet.

Yes they are an iconic vehicle there is no doubt about that. The owners that keep them on the road. They are real enthusiasts. However keeping them on the road is a continuous battle. Most of my mates went down the galvanised chassis route and the rear crossmember is notorious for rotting out. I am a fan, just I drive a vehicle that suits my needs and has excellent trade in leverage against a new one. When I trade it in, it still has 2 years left on the warranty.

Top Gear did a famouse clip with the Toyota high lux, absolutely wrecked it by dropping it off a building and it still ran after, also the North Pole trip in a mitsubishi.

Different people have different requirements, I like land rover but the Isuzu suits my needs better.

Isuzu only make Trucks nothing else, so their development is solely dedicated to making efficient, hard wearing, safe, reliable vehicles with driver comfort.

The thing THAT will make this country great again is inclusion....all i hear is leavers saying about how good this country was before the EU...well let me say i can never recall it being good UNTIL we joined the EU

Yet there was a proven correlation between areas that voted Remain and the areas of highest migration.

Many voted Leave on the basis of the rapid rise in migration, and not on the basis of migration.

Brexit: People voted to leave EU because they feared immigration, major survey finds

Claims Leave vote was a result of general disenchantment with politics were 'widely off the mark', according to report

Britain’s vote to leave the EU was the result of widespread anti-immigration sentiment, rather than a wider dissatisfaction with politics, according to a major survey of social attitudes in the UK.

Findings from the British Social Attitudes (BSA) survey published on Wednesday show Brexit was the result of widespread concern over the numbers of people coming to the UK – millions of whom have done so under the EU’s freedom of movement rules in recent years.

The research, collated by the National Centre for Social Research through a survey of nearly 3,000 British people, states suggestions by politicians and others that the Brexit vote represented a lightning rod for a general disenchantment with politics were “widely off the mark”

Nearly three-quarters (73 per cent) of those who are worried about immigration voted Leave, compared with 36 per cent of those who did not identify this as a concern, the research found, showing the discrepancy in views about immigration between Remain and Leave voters.

It also reveals that the longer any given voter felt EU migrants should have lived in the UK before qualifying for welfare benefits, the more likely they were to vote to leave the EU.

Has anyone thought that automation, electric cars and the lack of confidence in the wider economy could play a part?

You've just contradicted yourself there. In the first paragraph you said Thatcher ruined the UK in the 80's and it could never be good again because of her actions, then in the 2nd paragraph you said the UK only became good when we joined the EU. Which is it then because it clearly can't be both can it.

please don't go there as your statement here makes it obvious you are totally inexperienced in the performance and reliability of 4x4's

I am on my 5th Hilux, I replace with new every 3 years, clocking up on average around 70 - 80,000 miles, the Hilux is an amazing off roader and great mileage for a 3 litre. Totally reliable and fantastic inside.

Where as many within my shooting syndicates who drive land rovers/ Range Rovers & Discoveries are in constant breakdown or in dispute and wish they had never purchased one.

.

I think many others on this thread have experienced the same or know of someone who has had the misfortune to purchase your beloved land rover

A little bit advice for free, if you are going to purchase a 4x4 give your land rover a wide birth unless you want to spend lots of cash on repairs

And we are back to the usual pro and anti brexit memes while the fact remains that Vauxhall Ellesmere Port have announced it is making over a third of it's workforce redundant in the last 3 months saying that the decision was partially driven by brexit and the brexiteers here claim that to be a lie. Just as every time employers and investors announce that they are relocating or partially relocating because of brexit uncertainties they too are lying.

Some are lying, I do not think it is those that are voting with their feet and moving out of the UK, however I am still to decide if those lying are doing so to convince those who are pointing out the harm brexit is doing or themselves that everything is OK.

The one thing I do know for sure is that the vast majority of the country are getting poorer by the day and over half the politically active population of the country are cheering this on and demanding even more.

What sort of sane person gets would rather do themselves harm than abandon an idea they have attached themselves to? Is there anything that will get the brexit camp to admit they may have made a mistake? Or are we now in the grip of the same sort of madness that forced Germany under the Nazis to continue fighting right up to the point their whole country was destroyed? I think I hear the same ideological fervour and even rhetoric from the leaders of brexit and their supporters as I hear when I watch 30's and WW2 German newsreels.

The 73% figure taken from your poll is not in dispute. That figure refers to immigration, not the Turkey banner.

You, and another poster, said that the majority of Leave voters did so because of that Turkey banner.

But there is no statistical evidence to back that claim.up. indeed, the figures I posted, are from an opinion poll taken a couple of days before the Turkey banner was first shown, and that clearly shows that voter demarcation lines had already been established.

I cannot see where anyone said that. I can see where it has been pointed out that that banner and what was written on a bus played a part in convincing some voters to vote leave (and others not to vote at all rather than vote remain). As for statistical proof that will never be available while this issue is still active. Maybe in a 100 or 200 years (if we are still here) then the effectiveness of those 2 tools plus all the other voter manipulation tools designed and supplied by Cambridge Analytica will become public knowledge. However at present that knowledge is all trade secrets, but we do know that its effect must be statistically significant because of the speed of their growth in the political field.

"See spouting crap again how the hell would you know this ?

Polls where done...its easy to find out on the demographics

Link please?

Imm not posting the link as i got a forum ban last time...this information is out there and very easily found

But that doesn't tie up with the words "majority" and "banner"?

Well if you believe 52% is a majority then 73% must be lol...daft comment lol

So two posters on here have stated that the majority of the 17 million people that voted leave did so on the basis of a banner.

?

Yet you have no concrete facts that this was actually the case?

I just posted them lol...it was from a poll have a look i didnt make it up unlike some...yours was a silly comment

You can deflect all you like. Passing opinion off as fact....well, that's just downright silly! "

From where I'm standing it looks more like you're doing the deflecting by trying to concentrate the argument on whether the referendum was won by people being swayed by one racist banner rather than the real point, which is whether the referendum was won because of the support of people who are racist for Leave.

The reality is is that if only 2% of the vote to leave was a racist or xenophobic vote then that was enough to give leave victory.

There is no statistical evidence that all or even most leave voters are racist however there is evidence that most racists did vote leave and I'm pretty sure that that racist vote made up more that 2% of the leave vote.

They're cutting production to maintain unit value within the product...the law of supply and demand. Too many unsold vehicles (which are produced daily in large numbers) depress the market and drive down unit prices. Not in JLR's interest. Brexit is a convenient excuse.

80% of all Land Rovers registered in the UK since 1948 and 75% of all Land Rovers built worldwide are still on the road.

How does Toyoto compare? Not so well I bet.

A little bit advice for free, if you are going to purchase a 4x4 give your land rover a wide birth unless you want to spend lots of cash on repairs"

Toyotas 4x4s are good vehicles in general, but Land Rovers are also up there (aside from the Freelander). No need to give Land Rovers a wide berth if you know what you're dealing with. Incidentally, I've had to recover more stuck Toyotas than stuck Land Rovers (and I've run both over the years). And bits fall off them both when offroad.

I'm very happy with my 3.0l Jag diesel. Best car I've ever owned or driven. Perfect on the long runs to Spain, Germany, France, Italy and even Malta. 40mpg at 80mph. Bit of a handful in town but I have an Astra (from Ellesmere Port) for that.

"And we are back to the usual pro and anti brexit memes while the fact remains that Vauxhall Ellesmere Port have announced it is making over a third of it's workforce redundant in the last 3 months saying that the decision was partially driven by brexit and the brexiteers here claim that to be a lie.

You can give the project Fear bollocks a rest now, Project Fear is dead. The recession the remain scaremongers predicted never materialised and is no where in sight. The UK economy grew by more than what the IMF and the World Bank forecast it would last year. Nick Clegg said 4 million jobs would be lost but instead employment is high and unemployment is at historic lows. We were warned that hundreds of thousands of jobs would move to the EU but instead only a small trickle of jobs have gone. Financial experts say that London will remain as THE major financial capital of Europe after Brexit. We were warned that direct foreign investment would dry up here but instead it has remained constant and London was the leading tech investment capital of Europe in 2017. Productivity just hit a 6 year high in the UK. Face it The Remain campaign Project Fear is well and truly dead.

As for sticking to political ideologies that would damage the country it really is rich coming from a Corbyn Labour supporter like you. Big business and banks have warned of the damage a Corbyn Labour government would do to the country yet still you cheer it on. Even figures within the Labour party itself have warned that Corbyn's policies would bankrupt the country yet still you cheer it on. You seem like the type of person who would rather do yourself harm than abandon an idea you have attached yourself too. Is there anything that will make Corbyn supporters admit they have made a mistake giving him their support?

Diesel cars are just not selling and this has nothing to do with Brexit. As environment secretary Michael Gove announced last year that Diesel cars would be phased out of the UK in the coming years people just don't want to buy them anymore. People are also wanting to be more Green and environmentally friendly and as Diesel is environmentally damaging to air quality people are increasingly rejecting Diesel vehicles on those grounds too. Electric cars is the future and car manufacturers will have to adjust to the change in the market. This is what this is really about and has nothing to do with Brexit.

Typical BREXITer approach. "I'll be able to get a job easily in the EU if I want so fuck everyone else. I'm alright Jack, pull away the ladder". And the only spitting going on is the spitting on people like you who are happy to sell your country, your nation and your people down the river for a load of jingoistic bullshit and then have the nerve to pretend you're patriots.

"The number of Scottish businesses failures has fallen to an eight-year low, according to new figures.

Professional services firm KPMG found there were 832 corporate insolvencies in 2017 - a 15% drop on the previous year and the lowest since 2008

"

As there are less and less businesses..then obviously fewer of the remaining ones will fail.

To a certain extent the motor industry in the UK is a victim of its own success. With the availability of super cheap leasing deals the market is now flooded . Short term cut backs should not come as any surprise. Ultimately what matters is the company profitability, not the number employed .

Like somehow all those that voted BREXIT have more right to live here than those of us who put the wealth and well being of our country a little higher than the dubious pleasure of sticking a finger up to Jonny Foreigner.

Seems like it's nor just EU citizens that BREXITers want to kick out but even English, Welsh and Scottish people who don't share their BREXIT vision too.

Or, far more likely with regularity alignment, no real BREXIT at all, just a complete loss of control over all the regulations we'll still be aligned with. BREXITers never saw this coming and still can't see it's happened even though it's already been agreed.

Well CLCC gave just 4 examples of dissent amongst the Tory ranks. On the other hand if you look at Corbyn's leadership of the Labour party it's far, far worse. Just look at the Labour voting record on the EU Withdrawal bill last week, Corbyn ordered a 3 line whip on the Labour party to abstain from voting on the EU Withdrawal bill and 58 of his MP's rebelled against him and defied him. I'd say that dissent amongst his Labour ranks is far worse than anything the Tories are experiencing.

Well I'm not going to disagree with you on that but what I really don't see is how does that make any difference to the fact that the government is totally divided, leaderless and in a disorganised mess. I mean it's either good or bad news if the official opposition is a disorganised mess, depending on your political point of view, but if the government is a disorganised mess that's a worry whatever your political point of view.

Well there's a perfectly good reason for Tory disharmony!.

One half of the Tories don't really want brexit and the half don't want brexit but can't face like looking like cunts to the electorate....I mean apart from Davis nobody on the cabinet is actually a brexiter, your bound to have disorganisation, it wouldn't be any different under labour, the only party that's completely against democracy is the liberal "democrats" and they wouldn't be disorganised at all because they 100% all hate brexit

When did putting forward your point of view start to equate to being "completely against democracy" and does that mean that all BREXITers have been "completely against democracy" for 41 years since the first referendum in 1975?

In my opinion referendum are the tool of demigods, dictators and populists, never actually resolve any issue, never are a true reflection of the actual will of the people and should never be considered binding on a democratically elected government.
