David Davis is being questioned right now by the Exiting the EU committee and he is floundering badly.
Brexiter or Remainer - this is cringeworthy television.
His words “excruciating detail” are coming back to him in a way he probably never imagined. |

Yes, this really is quite shocking. I'm not sure which is worse:
1) That no sector specific impact assessments were done
or
2) That DD said previously that they had been done.
But hey... the leave voters all knew exactly what they were voting for. So that's OK then.

Davis seems contemptuous of every department and everyone except for himself, the sneer on his face when Steven Timms asked for a clarification. |

You mean he actually lied about impact assessments which could well assist us in navigating this economic change correctly the first time round?
He lied about doing his job?
I want him sacked, if I bullshitted I'd done a report then handed nothing in then i'd be sacked. |

"He is getting a very easy ride from the Conservative committee members."
he is.... i was shocked that peter bone, and especially jacob rees-mogg, who is always meticulous basically tried to bail him out...
thats not what committee is there for! they are suppose to ask the really hard questions!! another example of party over country... |

not surprised considering Mogg has recently been meeting with the likes of Bannon etc. on fact finding missions of how to subvert the democratic process to install the far-right into power |

So the take away from this is that despite assumptions made by parliament, it was just a play on words and no impact assessmnts have been undertaken whereas the analysis of the impact of Brexit has been. |

the last answer was telling.... no analysis made before cabinet decision to pull out of SM/CU..... so that decision seems to be a purely political one...
also did i hear that they are making a lot of their decisions on the impact studies switzerland did on their own economy???? |

Complete nonsense. I suppose you'd like to have the UK's Brexit papers laid out all over the desk next time the press have a photo opportunity. David Davis had his papers in his bag under the table, only a fool would have them on the table while the press are there taking photos. |

He can't have it both ways. One set of comments is a lie / twisted truth.
They either exist in 'excruciating detail' and he won't hand them over, or they don't exist, or something different to what he first described exists. Both / all can't be true.
I imagine a sector by sector analysis exists - automotive, fisheries, agriculture, finance etc.
I can understand him not wanting to hand it over as it shows our hand too much. But, since he's been 'told' to, it makes for a 'tricky' situation..... |

As David Davis explained it would be a waste of time, money and resources as the majority of economic forecasts about leaving the EU have so far turned out to be wrong. "
An impact assessment is more than just an economic forecast.
For example an impact assessment could say something like: "For the automotive industry, if we leave the customs union that will affect the 150 trucks a day that turn up at car plant X" or "For the NHS leaving Euratom would affect the supply of radioisotopes for medical imaging. These would then cost more / be harder to source / slower to get / etc".
The point being to look at each of the industries. Even (shock! horror!) ask them what the impact of leaving the EU would be to them and collate it all in one place so that an overall picture could be formed.
No doubt there would be benefits to leaving the EU to certain players in industries or sectors. But if you can get an overall picture then you can see how much that works out.
Even if you get the exact financial figures wrong, or have to estimate or forecast them based on incomplete data, at least you can try and put together a picture of what is going to happen. And the process of doing so will help to work out what bits are going to be easy or hard.

Then why did the Bank of England and Remain economists publicly admit to having their "Michael Fish moment" over Brexit. The forecasts they made about Brexit would have had to be wrong for them to publicly admit to having a Micheal Fish moment. |

And people say that the EU is self-serving and corrupt. The same EU who published Brexit impact assessments without fear of "showing their hand" months ago and used those reports to shape their Brexit negotiating position. (Probably in the absolute knowledge that no-one from the UK team would read them anyway). The same EU that will give every EU country a vote on the final Brexit deal whereas the one parliament who it will really impact will be denied a vote. |

Maybe he wrote on the paper with Lemon Juice so those sneaky Europeans wouldn't be able to read it on the sly. He could always of nipped of to the bog and got his Ronson's Lighter out to heat the paper up so he could read it when he needed it. I think that's actually the most likely thing really. |

David Davis exposed the problem at the heart of Brexit, no one is sure what we are trying to achieve. The arguments are defined by what we don't want rather than a proactive proposition about what we do want.
If you don't know what your goal is then how can you work out a negotiating position or undertake the analysis about what that goal would entail?
Brexit reminds me of a bolshy teenager wanting their independence without knowing what that would entail.
"I don't want to live here"
"Would you like this instead"
"No"
"How about that?"
"No"
"So what do you want?"
"I dunno"
"What do you want to change"
"I hate it, it's disgusting"
"What do you hate?"
"Everything about here"
"So what do you want instead?"
"Dunno"
