A tough question,maybe we should push Saudi Arabia to buy more lol.It is a fact that we are cutting back on defence spending and this industry is prone to these problems,lets hope the government can get out there and sell planes

The Eurofighter Typhoon is coming to a conclusion now. Better planes are now available globally, and it's a cut-throat world in defence procurement.
Airbus are shutting their Typhoon involvement down in Germany and France next year. Only another 87 Typhoons are still to be delivered, mainly to Oman and expected orders from Saudi and Qatar have not materialised.
We need a new project in order to keep highly skilled engineers in work. Once the older ones take the money, then they'll not come back.
Despite Warton and Smalesbury doing some assembly work on F35s, it's not going to be enough, and sadly, the RAF won't be requiring any large scale procurement of fighter planes for many years to come.

Simple fact is the Eurofighter is an old, out of date plane. BAe are trying to sell old kit in a new world.
To be honest it was so long in development ...it was out of date before it came on stream...partly a problem of the collaborative way it was developed. New kit is needed to keep jobs.... but large scale investment is needed for that...sadly not likely to be forthcoming. |

I've said time and time again on here that the day of old style physical manufacturing is starting to draw to a close, even at the high tech end.
Yes there will always be a need for nations to have top rate fighter jets, tanks and war ships, but lets be honest, the world is moving more to 'disruption warfare'. Hackers placing logic bombs in logistics, stealing important details, cyber raids on institutions. Most developed and industrial nations are likely to drop an EMP or cripple an opponent nation's national grid prior to any actual warfare.
When the world is getting less and less violent (hard to believe I know) competition grows for manufactures of old tech, someone will lose. You can try and do things cheaper and cheaper, but eventually someone has to sell up or go bust. |

Ok, RAF pilots also crewed American planes in the Korean conflict.
Ignoring quirks like our Phantom shooting down our Jaguar over Germany in 1982, and the Tornado destroying an Iraqi Mig 25 as it was taking off in 1991.....the last RAF air to air combat kill was in May 1948, when RAF Spitfires engaged and destroyed Spitfires of the Egyptian airforce!! |

Same old problem... if some other tossing Country attacked us we'd have very litle chance of keeping our skys clear and they would have free run of the place.
Same as having Nukes, they help stop arsehole Countries doing dumb stupid things. |
