ONS figures just out show average UK workers productivity has fallen again! Apparently per man-hour we are producing about 26% less than equivalent German workers!

Get your fingers out folks!

I bet that if you check over the last 10/20/30/40 years, year on year German industry has invested much more on updating production technology than British industry.

Doing my best here, but 60 hour plus weeks producing all this automation is tiring.

Of course they work harder, everything is written in German! German is a much harder language. If I had to translate all my work into German, it would take me at least 26% longer.

What definition of productivity are they using and how is it measured?

Nothing to do with anything else then, just workers?

Management and investment cultures, people under worse conditions - travel, education, health, government etc etc. Context is all, before you can determine any meaning.

Exactly the argument I wished to provoke. All I did was quote the headlines the way they are so often reported in the media.....without the background.

Some good points raised on here....I'll step back and let it continue.

Apparently, people are at their most productive when they are on a six hour day.

Value added per hour, eg $/hr.

But if you are paid for 9 hours...but only working for six...in between city and toilet breaks....that's got to pull your productivity down....
