Nice to see the deal being arranged before the brexit vote....i wonder what would happen if it were now.....but good news when a quick deal comes into force after 2 years minimum negotiations

Is this good news?

Let me write accurate banner headline and see how many still think this is good...

GOVERNMENT SELLS BRITISH FOOD TO CHINA WHILE BRITISH CHILDREN GO HUNGRY.

considering we are probably facing a food supply crisis in 19 months I am not sure this is good news. Or maybe it is another deal like the one the tories did with the Yanks last time they were in power...

Do you remember that one? it involved the NHS swapping our clean blood products with the US who in turn supplied us with HIV and Hepatitis c contaminated blood product and a bung to the treasury.

Well you are full of happiness and light aren't you

Just as a matter of interest how many children do you know who are going hungry

Personally I dont know any, not saying there isnt any by the way,

also up to now asking just 4 of my friends they dont know of any either.

This is a boost for business and can only lead to hopefully more trade not only with China.

I didnt mention Brexit but again the usual suspects have to drag good news down

No one here knows how I voted and I like to think I have a balanced view of both sides.

But to cheapen good news by throwing the nothing to do with brexit shot at this, just shows how cheap you guys are.

Also as you say this deal was being brokered before the referendum, dont you think that if China had worries about brexit they would have pulled out.

Who knows if they would...but definitely not a brexit victory as your insinuating....and just shows how long it actually takes to make a small deal like this

I never said that it was

It was you and others that brought brexit into the post

But like I said earlier brexit has not damaged the deal

Its good news for farms and good news for the food industry and goodcnews for exports

I would also assume it will go a long way to help facilitate other deals as well

It doesn't fit in with their negative and pessimistic Brexit narrative. They don't want to hear any good news and they want the UK to fail because they fear being proved wrong about Brexit. They want the UK to fail so they can say "I told you so".

It's a story about trade and exports so it's absolutely linked to politics.

So now you have a problem with which forum I choose to post in !!!!

I can post in any forum, and I suspect if my post was deemed to be in the wrong forum for my topic the mods would either remove it or post it in the correct forum.

I just dont understand the point of your post, you have said its nothing to do with brexit, you haven't linked it to a particular government policy or action. You haven't linked it to a particular party or politician. I just dont see why you have posted it in politics forum, when it seems such a apolitical post. If you could clarify that would be great.

Total food and drink exports is £20bn. This is 1% extra.

What's your point?

Loss of 300 jobs there but the total number of people employed in the UK at the moment is at an all time record high. So much for the Remain campaign doom monger predictions of Brexit costing the country jobs.

Have you been able to link those job losses to brexit?

Cost saving there saying so who knows yet....maybe it is maybe its not....but you never know "

So, normal, sad, redundancies basically. The op was probably subtley referencing brexit insofar as deals without holding mummy eu's hand can and do happen all the time.

"Great news. Good work by the companies, trade association and government department who helped.

It's worth £200m a year...good news. What are our total food exports to the Eu and the world?

Total food and drink exports is £20bn. This is 1% extra.

What's your point?"

It was a question. Are they not allowed on here or do you always exhibit such abysmal manners when a question is posed??

Anyway, you havent answered the question have you?

The question I asked was how much food, by value, do we export to the EU and to the world. Therefore one figure doesnt answer the question does it? The figures are actually £14bn (eu) and £20bn (world incl EU)

Great. So the sausage deal adds 1% . For a single deal that's a big deal.

"I think the politics forum has become too brexit focused. Some here forget that other, unconnected but political things, still exist.

Does the opening post fit into that?

So now you have a problem with which forum I choose to post in !!!!

I can post in any forum, and I suspect if my post was deemed to be in the wrong forum for my topic the mods would either remove it or post it in the correct forum.

My post is still here so no issues then hey

I just dont understand the point of your post, you have said its nothing to do with brexit, you haven't linked it to a particular government policy or action. You haven't linked it to a particular party or politician. I just dont see why you have posted it in politics forum, when it seems such a apolitical post. If you could clarify that would be great.

What do I need to clarify

Its just a post about a great deal thats been done between the UK and China

Just because it doesnt fit your political ideals or your opinion on which forum it should be posted in doesnt mean I cant post it here.

I dont understand your concern or why you are habitually negative about .... to be honest anything.

What do you think about the drop in unemployment

The lowest since 1975 is that good or bad ir will you spin it into a negative.

Hows that is it political enough for you

And the post is totally about brexit as you and i and others know

Actually like I said the post was not about Brexit, not until you made it about Brexit. But hey you know what I was thinking better than me.

As for Tulip yes it is sad that it might close down, nothing is certain as yet.

Apparently they are trying to re brand at the moment and will make a decision in the new year.

At present there is not 300 people working there and hasn't been for some time, I do know they laid off 50 plus people a short while ago.

I actually worked on the build of the factory installing all the cold room panels and doors, unfortunately the nternal roof is made of rock / mineral wool panels and the whole ceiling has failed, the cost to remove and replace with new PIR panels has been put at £400 thousand so quite possibly for that reason it may not be financially viable to sustain.

And your point being !!!!

I will tell you what your point is, it's more negativity which is what you seem to do on here.

You slag off the post because it's good news then you accuse me of posting because it's secretly about Brexit.

Then you look for something negative in the article, but notice you didn't post any of the realted stories that where about expansion.

Please post something positive yourself, something that we can all get behind as it's a good news story, insted of looking for ways to slag a post off.

But your post was about brexit until it was pointed out to you that the deal was done way before the brexit vote took place and with help from the EU and the amount of time it took to do the deal....but yes its great news i agree...
