Hateful Racist Brexiter Found Guilty

There's a few people in here who could do with looking at this judgment before making some of the comments that they make about May, Corbyn et al. The racist element in this case was only an aggregating factor. Making threats to harm someone or encouraging and inciting others to do harm to someone is an offence in and of itself, regardless of how deserving of harm the offender feels the person they are threatening or inciting others to threaten or harm may be. |

Who here has offered to pay £5000 to anyone who will maliciously wound a named person for them?
I would say the man is very lucky that no one attempted to 'earn' that cash. I would also say if he were not aristocracy he would not have got off with a summary trial (max 2 years imprisonment) but would have been tried in a Crown Court and be looking at a much longer sentence. |

I think it's beyond doubt that the remarks were racist but, while the court agreed that the remarks were racist, that was not the offence he was found guilty of. The offence was the incitement to do harm, racism was an aggravating element, which means the sentence will be harsher than it would have been if there had been no racist aggravating element.

from the news reports, the bloke concerned made racist threats to a person because that persons pro-remain views were at odds with his own personal pro-brexit dogma .... in view of these facts, it's fair to say the title of the thread is accurate |

I asked you on what facts you based that assumption on.

All the imams that I know do condemn extremism but that's irrelevant and just another diversion tactic.
In this case it's not just that the BREXITers are not condemning him, they are actually trying to excuse it. It almost like, because he supports BREXIT and she doesn't, BREXITers seem to think that anything he's said or done is OK by them. As I said before, BREXIT is no excuse for racism. BREXITers do their credibility no good at all my not condemning it just because the person being racist is a BREXITer.

As someone (Mark) who voted for Brexit I have to agree that the fellas behaviour and incitement was disgusting - and he got what he deserved. Not sure there is a 'stereotype' Brexiteer in reality, though many left-thinking individuals would insist on pigeonholing us all.
Personally I have no racist, xenophobic tendencies and deplore any who do. That being said it should work both ways as there have been self-confessed individuals to the left as well as the right who have been so for years, but always excuse their behaviour, yet still get voted for by their constituencies time and time again.
For me none of the Brexit issues have truly been a division of haves and have nots, young or old, but over fears of extreme policies on either side of the political divide. Pity we simply don't seem to have decent human beings as politicians in any parties any more, as that for me is where the true problems arise. |

If it helps, I do condemn him and anyone who abuses others. Not just for race or gender or sexuality but for ANY reason. What he did was WRONG, UNNACCEPTABLE and he must be punished. I hope that clears it up.

And finally.... because this is boring. "They" referred to the poster (singular) stating that brexiters are racist. While a broad brush would enable me to cover the surface area of one poster more quickly, it's not a generalisation. |

But, in this case, the guy was overtly and aggressively racist, he was a BREXIT supporter and he's clearly a hateful person. The actual offence was encouraging people to attack her because she was opposed to BREXIT, the aggravating racist element was that she should not oppose real Brits because she was the descendent of immigrants. Those calling him a hateful, racist BREXITer are, in this instance, totally correct. |

No, I dont think I said that if you check.
What I was alluding to was the fact that your card carrying EDL/Britain First members, tattooed knuckle fuckwits, old people who think the country has done downhill since the darkies were allowed in, all voted to leave. So hypothetically if there were 2 million of those dyed in the wool horrible anti-immigration racists voting leave, then those 15 million leavers who actually considered the facts and voted accordingly would not have won the referendum. The 2 million racists won it for you. (I'd say 2 million is a conservative number actually)
I will say that remain voters are less likely to be racist, as they tend to be more outward looking. Whereas leavers tend to be nationalist, and that as never bred tolerance.

He wasn't charged or convicted of attempting to hire a thug to attack anyone. He was convicted of making comments that might encourage someone to attack someone else. Personally I think the sentence is a little light but broadly in line with similar cases. I'm also pretty sure that if he'd been from a sink estate anywhere in England and Wales, for this offence, it would probably not even have got to court but if it had, he probably would have got a similar sentence. |

Really? You think that if someone living in Brookvale or Castlefields or any of the other Runcorn Development Association estates went on one of the largest social media sites in the world and offered £5000 to anyone who deliberately ran a named person over with a vehicle that they would not find themselves standing in Halton Magistrates Court being remanded in custody while awaiting trial in Liverpool/Chester/Knutsford Crown Court on a charges of 'Soliciting to murder' and 'Incitement to commit Grievous bodily Harm'.
I think Cheshire Plod would be out of their nice big police station in Runcorn Shopping City and using a 'persuader to gain entrance' and that whoever made the offer would not see light of day for a few years! |
