DUP Delayed Deal...

North West

So I am sat in a bar and a couple of guys down the bar, I hear a guy ordering in the dulcet tones of what I knew was a Northern Irish accent.

After the usual pleasantries about meeting fellow Brits in another country we started talking about putting the world to rights (like you do).

I asked him about the stalled DUP deal and he assured me the reason it was stalling is because N Ireland is a net recipient of EU funding and for the DUP to support the Tories in enabling Brexit m, they wanted legislation passed to permanently guarantee at least the same % levels of additional funding from Westminster. The stalling seemingly is not necessarily about the money for NI, but how May & Co spin the story because they don't want to admit that many regions of the UK are beneficiaries and the Govt can't give similar pledges for other regions (in particular Scotland).

I took this as just "opinion" until the guy told me his name and I googled it back in my room. I think he could have been telling it the way it is.

It does make sense. NI does depend on that funding and getting it guaranteed would be a major victory for the DUP which should enable Foster enough political capital to get passed the fuel controversey and it would be a major point against a United Ireland unless we match those guarantees.

Smart play by the DUP, political disaster for the Tories if they dont match it for other areas. Are the Scottish Tories going to be happy if they dont get the same deal?

I bet Foster wants the Treasury to pay for her fuck up with cash for ash. Previously they had told her to get on her bike and do one.

Read similar too. Seems they certainly want the farming subsidies met by Westminster amongst other things..

May should run as a minority without them rather than tie that political rock to her back..

Makes no sense when straight away the other devolved administration's will cry foul and also want that..

Expensive business both financial and political ..
