Seems to be a much more low key affair today than usual.

Cars instead of Horse and Carriages and Her Majesty hasn't changed into her robes of state.

I very much disagree and pomp and circumstance is for me a very proud part of being British.. but then I am royalist.

We should have a referendum on it when she dies and let the public decide if they should stay or go.

anyway... its more interesting is what wasn't in the speech..... all of the policies relating to:

grammar schools

fox hunting

social care

donald trumps visit

free school lunches

winter fuel allowance

so basically they ripped up the manifesto

And what's the betting that in 2 year's time the next Queen or Kings speech will reflect that they've ripped up what their brexit position was in the Lancaster house speech..

Isn't the wording at the end along the lines of 'and may place in front of you other matters'... something of a catch all? I know it means that there is less emphasis on them. And from what I read, something called the Salisbury Convention where the Lords won't vote against a 3rd reading of a matter that was in the Queen's speech? If I understand the protocol correctly that means that the Lords could vote against the items above that were not in the speech?

I bet Her Majesty has done more to serve our country this last decade than most will manage in a lifetime. She deserves respect for what she does. And anyone that thinks she does nothing is just deluded.

not many ladies of her age still put in the hours she does. When we had all these awful events recently.. she went despite lots of other things and being a big risk visiting...

I Think she has earnt the right to be respected no matter what you think to having royalty. Easy to see the fine things she has.. but id not swap my life for hers. At least I have freedom.
