Jeremy Corbyn got the same amount of seats as Gordon Brown did at the end of their 13 years of power. It will be a long time before Labour get into power again. I retire at the end of the 2030's so maybe then. Corbyn was Labour's best chance of winning as had not been in government before and not part of the establishment and rebel mp.
As far as a comparison to this election in 2005 Conservative leader Michael Howard acheived just under 200 seats and an increase of over 40 seats after 8 years of a Labour government and Blair lost 100 seats. Blair was weakened politically and resigned two years later.
My point is that whilst Corbyn has won seats and votes in surprising areas he is nowhere near winning power after 7 years in opposition. |
