Sorry to point out the obvious but the conservatives got a greater share of the vote than Labour and more seats. Sorry if you don't like the facts.

I'm sure all the Fabbers who have falsely accused Corbyn of being a terrorist sympathiser will now be lining up in here to attack May for putting actual terrorists into the UK government.

Anybody?

Hello? Hello?

Is this thing on?

Oh gosh, what an amazing point. There was I thinking May had been embarrassed and the Tories had hugely underperformed!

But apparently they got more seats so it's fine. I guess there is no such thing as context.

And? Sorry, I've just re-read this thread three times to see what I missed. No-one has disputed that Conservatives got more votes and seats than Labour. Just that they didn't get the majority and having to rely on support from a party that is 'brothers in arms' with terrorist organisations.

No one is saying they didn't but given that some on here were openly talking in figures of a Tory majority in excess of 60 seats and some even saying 100 plus its not really a victorious night when you don't even get to the winning post on your own..

Theresa May saying 'now lets get to work'?

Ffs she has just wasted the last 6 weeks or so of doing the work needed for the start of the negotiations in 10 days time..

For whatever reason and in time the books will be wrote by those privy to the real reason's she did not in any way shape or form need to have an election now..

she had a mandate from both houses to get on with it..

what she has done is to weaken her position and to kick start the opposition..

and she is going to get into bed with some people with some pretty backward views in order to fudge a majority..

there is no way to put a positive spin on what has been for her a disastrous campaign and caused the people with whom she will be negotiating with on behalf of all of us to be wondering what the fuck is going on..

Where we can agree is that the election was a waste of money as it was completely unnecessary!

What you're ignoring is that May called this snap general election for one purpose, to wipe Corbyn & Labour from the political landscape and gain a huge majority in her favour. It fucked up, she fucked up, the Tories LOST their majority and Corbyn gained a load of seats even from Tory strongholds for the last 60 to 100 years.

Its a spectacular fuck up for the Conservatives considering what their objectives were and a mighty victory for Labour considering what was expected to happen to them

By the way, I don't support Labour or Corbyn, I'm normally a Tory voter. Just stating the facts as they are.

Managing to limp into a hung parliament which they have to bolster with creationist terror-sympathising nutbags to get a working majority that John Major would have considered impossibly fragile is something no Westminster politician would consider a victory in their wildest dreams.

You are making the mistake of thinking this result is the end of the process of hell the Tories have screwed themselves into.

No, see he didn't suppprt them. That was just the Tory smear campaign, that despite being debunked many times you still choose to believe. Hence you see why I'm so amused that after them trying their hardest to smear him they then try and form a government with a party backed by a paramilitary group that a few weeks ago executes a guy in a Sainsbury's car park in front of his 3 year old son.

This coalition of chaos is on borrowed time no matter which way you look at it.

The Conservatives will require total allegiance on every vote and a number of Tory's are already on threadbare margins because of certain manifesto promises.

I doubt that they will get much further than the Queens speech if even that far. Particularly if they pledge (as they should) their manifesto promises in the speech.

"Sorry to point out the obvious but the conservatives got a greater share of the vote than Labour and more seats. Sorry if you don't like the facts.

I don't disagree with most of what you say - she should never have called the election BUT there huge leap from there to the views expressed by most labour supporters on here. The fact remains that Labour did not win and the majority did not support their approach

no one on here has said they won..

most on this forum are too wily on both sides to commit such a faux pas which will be thrown back at them every opportunity by others..

Kin ell even old Labour hands would not have forecast this some 6 weeks ago, this is the jockey being 20 lengths ahead in the Grand National and looking back with a cheesy shit eating grin at the other riders, maybe even waving at them..

then stopping to tighten up their saddle, make it more strong and stable for the run in and finding the horse decides to go backwards..

or something..

i am not sure how else this can be looked at as anything other than a monumental and not necessary fuck up, maybe a better analogy though..

You are obviously reading different threads to me. I hav lost count of the number that are claiming the conservatives lost - don't go saying that is not the same as saying Labour won because it is!

ok..

so you think that Theresa May won?

numerically yes no one doubts that but this was for her about increasing the majority she had..

on the back of a 20 point lead..

with a 'weak' leader of the opposition ripe for the taking to the cleaners..

She has less MPs now than when this started..

she is now on telly saying sorry for the party workers and MP's who have lost their seats in this election..

and that she called it to get a bigger majority..

by any definition of politics she has lost..

She has lost credibility I absolutely agree but winning the election is purely about numbers and they are what they are despite labour supporters being unwilling to accept them."

I'm a labour supporter and most of the other Labour supporters I know are perfectly happy to accept the numbers. We never expected May to screw up and do quite this badly!

He admitted he called them friends in ameeting in parliament in 09, thats a report by that well knowright wing paper the guardian and in a telegraph article in 16 he refused to denounce them, to me that is support

So you didn't actually read the article or what he said then? Or listen to his explanations of the context in which it was said?

How do you feel about May saying "we will continue to work with our friends and allies in the Democratic Unionist party in particular.". Do you see that in the same way? No, of course not. They are different. One was said in the context of bringing together two sides for peace talks in the middle east. The other was a British government propping itself up with a party linked to paramilitary action.

If you connected sinn fein and the DUP it would have some sense, although I dont know if any members of the dup actually were active in "violence" in the same way as those in sinn fein. But to say that hamas and hezbolla are the same as the dup is a new low

Given that they now have no choice but to work with the DUP to have a majority, she's hardly likely to address them as "that backward collection of bigoted fucktards" is she?

Technically Conservatives won and, if you want crumbs of comfort, actually increased their share of the vote to 44%, the largest share of the vote for any party since Mrs. T in 1983.

But the hard, real facts are this:-

The Conservatives have lost seats.

The Conservatives have lost their overall majority.

May has lost most, if not all, of her authority and credibility.

The Conservatives are being forced into an alliance with a party that is so toxic it will probably make the Conservatives look unelectable for a decade.

All of this and there's probably going to have to be another election before Christmas which will weaken the Conservatives even more.

So much for strong and stable government.

From a former Conservative voter.

No, House of Commons rules means she has to call them "The right, honerable collection of bigoted fucktards"

But you illustrate my point well. Whilst in meetings trying to help negotiate peace between two sides, Corbyn was unlikely to call them 'you terrorist cunts' was he?

i don't buy the reason given that we will still be negotiating Brexit in 2019 and maybe further so an election in 2020 is a smoke screen..

more like this could be a complete shambles and we don't want the backlash..

Actually let's point out the obvious. Conservative called an election because the majority they had was hard to pass through their legislations. How easy will it be now?

Labour have a stronger opposition to vote against any issues. Including lib dem, greens and others will be harder.

What if a few Tory mps are sick or away? Do they have the majority for votes?

May dropped 12 seats and Corbyn added 29 (probably 30 once Kensington...bloody Kensington!!! goes red), by any measure it's a Corbs win

Since when is 261 more than 318???"

Since when was 318 a parliamentary majority?

Isn't Britain great at blowing it's feet off. First of all we have a surprise vote to leave the EU which totally catches everyone off guard and destroys any stability we had, Foot no. 1 GONE and then to be totally perverse and contrary half the population gathers together in the party that says let's make a complete fudge of it , We didn't really want to leave you guys and shoot our entire economy in the foot and make it so that when another general election is called in 3 months time the whole business community will be so depressed and fucked up no one will want to buy anything so that even if we could afford to give out a load of sweets to the youngsters there would be nothing left to give them.

Hoo fucking ray for Britain. We've done it again. Just blown our other foot off. Oh well let's go shopping again on our stumps and get ourselves out of trouble with some retail therapy. I'm afraid that just isn't going to work anymore. If I was Theresa May I would call an election now and fuck off into the political wilderness. It's a hopeless task.

Talk about nailing your colours to the wrong mast.
