Even I baulk at some of the headlines but, as you say Pat, they are all accountable in law. So every story has to have a basis in truth. If not they will be in court.
They may give some of the stories a political slant but that is no different from the Guardian or the Mirror.

There will always be a small number of cases where newspapers will lose cases or have been provided with inaccurate information and may not have had time to check their sources thoroughly . These instances are comparatively rare . It they were common the newspaper would go bankrupt. |

even when i gave about a dozen of these you denied they were true, even saying you could not find them online when they are easily accessible using a common search engine..

I am not sure what is defined as a higher number or the ratios on which you base this assumption. The fact remains that the Daily Mail is an award winning newspaper and newsagents would refuse to sell it if the content was as you suggested . I buy it in a variety of different locations and three of the newsagents , two of which I chat to regularly, are what some people may describe as of non UK origin and one is Turkish .
To date none of these newsagents have kicked me out of the shop for attempting to buy what you consider to be a newspaper with an agenda of hate and division. Maybe it is your assessment of it that needs review. If any of the newsagents from which I purchase it stop selling it , I will of course let you know . |

Maybe if you actually read the Daily Mail and knew all of its content you would be in a better position to form an opinion.
You have simply posted a sweeping generalisation of the intellectual content of the readers of two important national newspapers .
It is difficult to see on what basis you make your conclusion or for that matter how it can be justified.
Luckily the Daily Mail has many loyal supporters and it's readers are the type of people with whom I would be more than happy to run the country.
Pat, you are living in some complete alternate universe. Every other front page of the Daily Mail has a headline screaming about immigrants, or 'benefit scroungers', or general racism and hatered.

Blinkered or blind to seeing the hate that the Mail regularly pumps out or of the same mindset .. There will always be a small number of cases where newspapers will lose cases or have been provided with inaccurate information and may not have had time to check their sources thoroughly . These instances are comparatively rare . It they were common the newspaper would go bankrupt.
agree there will always be cases where they get it wrong, as i pointed out to on one of your previous profile before the Mail have a higher than 'normal' number of such cases..
even when i gave about a dozen of these you denied they were true, even saying you could not find them online when they are easily accessible using a common search engine..
The Mail has a higher number because they have an agenda of hate and division but again you wont see that..
I am not sure what is defined as a higher number or the ratios on which you base this assumption. The fact remains that the Daily Mail is an award winning newspaper and newsagents would refuse to sell it if the content was as you suggested . I buy it in a variety of different locations and three of the newsagents , two of which I chat to regularly, are what some people may describe as of non UK origin and one is Turkish .
To date none of these newsagents have kicked me out of the shop for attempting to buy what you consider to be a newspaper with an agenda of hate and division. Maybe it is your assessment of it that needs review. If any of the newsagents from which I purchase it stop selling it , I will of course let you know .

I would have thought that the ethnic origin of the shop keepers selling the newspaper referred to was rather crucial. On the one hand some posters on here appear to be implying that some of the content of the newspaper is unacceptable yet have difficulty accepting that the majority of newsagents selling it are members of ethnic minorities . If the newspaper was as bad as some of the posters on here attempt to portray, the newsagents concerned would simply refuse to sell it .
I cannot remember ever stating that I was good at research . What I have consistently stated is that I always refuse to refer to any links quoted by any poster on here . The logic behind this is twofold .
a. The source of the links may be inaccurate and biased and my preference would be to do my own research .
b. No one could seriously expect this site to be the source of any important information. It will attract a skewed section of the population . As the site is for entertainment only I could never see the point in posting links . For serious research I would be looking elsewhere .
I will accept what you state about the Daily Mail losing a number of court cases as being correct . Instances such as this are inevitable when tackling issues which some sectors of the population would prefer to ignore or push aside . |

I would have thought that the only complaints that mattered would be those that were considered to be valid and where the press council ruled against the newspaper concerned . Anyone can lodge a complaint for any reason and we would need to know the motivation for someone raising a complaint . Maybe someone with a grudge or too much spare time on their hands. |

Well lets look at those figures:
In a report to the commons using PCC figures from 2011 to 2013 The Mail leads in not only number of complaints but also complaints upheld and breaches of the editors code. In fact it was over 250% in both cases to the 2nd place (the sun in both categories).
In fact the Mail had more complaints upheld than Telegraph, Mirror, Times, Guardian, Daily Record, Standard, Independent, Metro, People, Scotsman, Herald and Observer COMBINED and with room to spare.
So on the numbers that you said mattered the Mail is far and away the worst offender. If it wasnt for the Sun it would have a worse track record than every other major and mid level paper combined in the country.
To save you some effort Ive written your reply:
"These numbers completely contradict my position and as such I will ignore them. I will say I will do my own research but wont actually do it and certainly wont post anything. Because in order to do that there would have to be something that disagreed with cold,hard numbers and we all know that wont happen. Instead I will ignore the facts, refuse to accept reality and will instead continue to read the Mail and pretend it is not an innaccurate, discredited source of information because it tells me my backward views are correct and that makes me feel good about myself."

I have just been in the Guardian website . In 2015 IPSO only upheld two complaints against the Daily Mail compared 11 against the Sun , Times and Sunday Times .
In my opinion the very low level of upheld complaints can only prove what an excellent job the Press do and how accurate they are . I prefer to look at people's or organisations positive achievements and avoid criticising them. Interestingly, the Guardian is not regulated by IPSO. |
