Trump and the paris climate change deal

Jump to: Newest in thread

He said he will withdraw from the paris deal, the un chief urges him not to, what is your view of it? Is it down to us humans with climate change or is it the natural cycle? I reckon it is a mix of the both.

A few clues.... Carbon exchange , carbon emission bonds , certificates, Al Gore, eco taxes, mitigation schemes , green energy subsidies , fat "climate change" study grants gravy train ....Let me know if you want more!

OMG! How ignorant or plain stupid are you Tony?

We live on a planet that has 2 main energy sources:

Geothermal, that is energy (heat) generated by the friction of the molten core moving at a different speed to the solid mantel of the planet. And Solar energy, that is heat energy that is captured by our atmosphere from the light hitting the planet.

The temperature variation that can sustain our life is very narrow, at present we are contributing to our planets changing this variation in an upwards direction. Cold, we cane cope with, heat we can not! We are helping to heat our atmosphere! This will eventually kill us if we don't do it some other way first!

At what point are you going to wake up and accept this basic truth Tony?

I think we will look back in twenty years and see last night as a defining moment of idiocy, self-motivated greed and sheer hypocrisy. I have no doubt there will be more episodes like this in intervening years, though.

I think it is fairly clear that much of what the Trumpster is about is motivated by his ego and his need to erase the Obama legacy.

We should not be surprised that he is doing this and because he said he would do it. As with the other hated policy - Obamacare, his predecessor was the architect of the Paris Accord and Trump is determined to dismantle anything to do with him.

Note that he also added that upon withdrawal, he would immediately begin to start negotiating a new climate deal - his legacy!

It will probably make little or no difference. Other than a Trump being able to blow smoke up his own Arse.

Just as individual countries have set their own targets (and as stated above, in many cases, exceeded those targets) states and even cities in USA have set their own targets.

Many are now stating that they will stick to the Paris targets so the Donald's statement will have little or no affect.

Even the mayor of Pittsburgh (Republican through and through...and Trump central as far as electorate are concerned) has called Trump a fool and said they will continue to stick to the targets and beyond.

Actually this is exactly what Boris said when interviewed about it yesterday before the Donalds announcement.

Yes, but Trump said:

"We will see if we can make a deal that's fair. And if we can, that's great. And if we can't, that's fine,"

So clearly he doesn't see it as any priority at all.

Then just look at the quotes of support:

"However, Republican congressional leaders and the US coal industry backed the move, with Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell supporting Mr Trump "for dealing yet another significant blow to the Obama administration's assault on domestic energy production and jobs"."

"Peabody Energy, America's biggest coal mining firm, said the agreement would have badly affected the US economy." -- no shit they'd say that.

Where did it say I'm a denier.....? Please show that. I have a physics degree....I'm very much on the climate change agenda...What I said is that his decision is unlikely to have any change. Individual states and cities have set their own targets....and so far seem to be sticking to them. So USA will continue to meet the Paris terms...on a state by state basis.

Your passion has dulled your reason !

". Cold, we cane cope with, heat we can not!"

Seriously ? Do your homework !

Its actually the opposite !

Man has always progressed when temps went up and regressed when they went down !

That is a fact ! It was warming that permitted mankind to spread to all the continents, when coming out of Africa !

Colder temps traditionally means failing crops , famine ,death !

That is how its always been ! Today dew to transportation infrastructure that has been overcome ....but that a "recent" situation in the history of mankind !

To sum it up , we do better with a little more heat , then with cold , as it easier to sustain most life !

So.... cool it , and think !

At the moment and for the next two years at least we are part of the EU but more to the point, it wasn't an EU letter. It was a letter of concern from some of the signatories of the Paris agreement which May, if she had any backbone, would have put her name to.

The fact that she didn't shows how in thrall to the Americans she'd love us to be and how anti-European she is despite her 'we're leaving the EU not Europe' crap.

Basically, she'd take it in any orifice to satisfy the Donald and, sadly, have us do the same.

Duh!

Just because they happen to be leaders of countries in the EU doesn't mean the letter is coming from the EU.

The point of the matter is that May is Trumps bitch and she expects us all to bend over and take it up the ass from America.

Trump said he stands for "Pittsburgh and not Paris" . The mayor of Pittsburgh then said even they will stick to the Paris agreement. That is why nothing will change. Trump can say what he likes.....but things will continue as before. The whole of the USA is ignoring him. He is irrelevant.

Let me align myself to the other 193 countries who signed this on this issue... and you can align yourself to America and Syria

Jeez what a silly thing to say.....

Some people's blind hatred are clouding every bloody issue!

"It will probably make little or no difference.

Another climate change denier saying everything gonna be alright. Burn baby fucking burn..

Please read what people have posted and not your own agenda/interpretation before you make yourself look stupid. You said it makes no difference which is absurd.Sounds like climate denier bullshit wrapped up in more bullshit. If you think trump wont damage the environment you're not on the same page as me.

Bobba.... can you really not read? I said it will make no difference to the outcome. The individual states and cities are still going to stick to the agreement.

Porkie the fossil fuel industry is rubbing its hands with glee.Next up drilling in the arctic and the national parks will be fracked and the coal industry will be revived.Keep pretending you give a fuck .Tories have no love for the planet.

"I recon he has done what his masters have told him to do so that they can get even richer at the expense of the planet.

Lol.... Bs meter of the charts ....

Paris is BS !

He is doing what he said he would do !

The reality is most of the the countries that signed up will say they comply ... but in practice they wont !

Its another kyoto type con job !

Lots of money to be made by scaring people into paying to "fix" the planet!

Come on Will ! you are the conspiracy specialist ....

Connect the dots !

A few clues.... Carbon exchange , carbon emission bonds , certificates, Al Gore, eco taxes, mitigation schemes , green energy subsidies , fat "climate change" study grants gravy train ....Let me know if you want more!

Reality ? ALL the domsday predictions tipping points, deadlines since the 1970ies have not come to pass !

Wake up suckers !

Actually the problem for you tony is that data is showing that most countries are exceeding their own targets... and if you knew anything about how the deal was structured you would know that it was the country's themselves that set their own initial target... and then it gets looked at every five years

Or are you just a climate change denier?

Or a spammer? ...Or a childish 50+ year old attention seeker who should be ignored for constantly giving a bad reputation to his native Portugal? ...or Perhaps someone benefiting from defending idiotic/retarded positions? If you dont know the answer to a question. The answer is often money. "

"Disappointing to see May declining to sign a joint letter from EU leaders.

Still brown nosing Trump.

Shows how fucked we'll be after Brexit.

In case you hadn't noticed we are leaving the EU, so what is the point in signing an EU letter? We are also in the middle of a general election. Theresa May has more important matters at hand.

You were the one who used EU terminology in your original post which I replied to. If the EU has nothing to do with it then why did you mention the EU in the first place?

Duh!

Just because they happen to be leaders of countries in the EU doesn't mean the letter is coming from the EU.

The point of the matter is that May is Trumps bitch and she expects us all to bend over and take it up the ass from America."

Take it the Duh! applies to yourself there then, still not explained why you used EU terminology in your original post. Get your language right if it had nothing to do with the EU you should have just said Theresa May refused to sign a joint letter from World leaders. Oh and rather than taking it up the ass from America we've been bent over and taking it up the ass from the EU for the last 30 to 40 years with previous chinless wonders leading our country like Major, Blair, Brown and Cameron.

Actually I don't hate trump... but I do feel he is totally in equipped to do the job

And as for Clinton.. you should remember I came out for BernieSanders in the democratic primary

But pleased let's not skew this away from the actual topic at hand....

Trump has made loads of climate change deniers posts in the past... remember him saying climate change was a hoax made up by the Chinese!

Trump appointment at the EPA is a well renowned climate change denier...

If you want to be on the trump side of the argument then I think it's a fair question to ask if you believe in climate change? So.......... do you?

May responses were weak compared to most... I think that is factually fair to make... I think it's should have been a lot stronger in public

I know you tend to be pretty myopic when the letters E and U are used but try and think it through for a change.

Does it really matter if I referred to them as EU leaders or a bunch of Muppets?

The point is May's pathetic response or lack of it.

It's obvious oil coal are making the money now. If Germany and China create renewable energy that pays off. The USA will lose out in so much money. The new energy will equal to power.

Just satisfying his coal friend will kill a nation.

Those who argue against climate change because of the cost of preventing it have no grasp of the technological advances and price drop of renewables.China hasn't just built the largest floating solar power plant on earth for a laugh. They do it because its viable and profitable. The age of oil and coal is over its got to stay in the ground .

Amen to that bobba. Just a shame you couldn't see that I was agreeing with you before.

And it's why the states and cities in the USA...,who actually affect the policies on energy (and not Trump) are going to stick to the Paris treaty ideals (they are actually ahead of the game so far).

I also hope you were not also lumping me in with the tories as your previous comment seemed to do....tho where that came from I haven't a clue.

So the USA is outside the club and North Korea is inside the club

So Let's slate Donald Trump and applaud Kim Jong-Un

No doubt N Korea along with countries like China work tirelessly day and night to keep their countries emissions down to an absolute minimum, in an effort to comply with emmsion regulations and the Paris agreement

Or perhaps it's time to wake up and realise signing the agreement actually means cock all

Just saw it on the news about the terms of the agreement for China and the USA. The Chinese terms say they will reach Peak emissions in 2030 so their emissions can rise for the next 12 years before they are required to drop. The American terms say they must have a 28% reduction in emissions by 2025, so Trump is spot on when he says the deal is unfair to the USA.

Its just an updated version of Kyoto !

If you are poor and not as developed as the mean USA ,you get to continue to pollute!

Brilliant !

So its not about saving the planet is it? . Its a very socialist notion of redistribution !

In this case the "rich" countries get to reduce emissions to compensate for the lesser developed ones , that have to play catch up to reach the same , or closer development !

There are some problems with this environmental "equality" !

1- Its ok to pollute if you are a poor country ! In fact most third word countries have appalling environmental practices !

2- China ! Are you serious ?

Can some of you "climate change" fundamentalists/activists please explain that one to me ?

If China is already suffering from all that lovely smog and wonderful air quality , why does the Paris accord permit China to continue to raise its emissions until 2030 ?

We are talking about the worlds biggest polluter !

But.... The USA that has since 2005 actually been drastically reducing its emissions, which are currently on par or lower then the EU, have to commit to cut further ?

Please people, explain the reasoning behind that ! Is it about PC or the planet ?

Is Chinese or Indian Co2 less serious to the planet then American/Trump Co2 ?

did the news also tell you

2) china's dispensation came about because there are a lot of rural china without electricity...

3) china actually are ahead of their own target and plan to peak by 2022....then start dropping...

4) as was said all along... california's emission targets are actaully way above and beyond the paris agreement....

But.... The USA that has since 2005 actually been drastically reducing its emissions, which are currently on par or lower then the EU, have to commit to cut further ?

Please people, explain the reasoning behind that ! Is it about PC or the planet ?

Is Chinese or Indian Co2 less serious to the planet then American/Trump Co2 ?"

and if you want to bring india into the discussion and use them as an excuse...

india are currently building about a 2 dozen coal fuelled power stations... reason being there are about 300m people living without electricity...

india were due to 103 more...... that has been scrapped because their solar power program has been so successful that it it more cost effect to expand that

so trump can look for excuses all over the shop to suit his narrative....

I know that climate change has always existed. Frankly I don't understand it enough and have not done enough research to have an unbiased honest opinion, so best not to give one. Which is why I usually stay out of this debate

Good answer.Its a simple choice.

Either its real and we spend trillions and we save ourselves from extinction or its fake and we spend trillions and end up with a world run on renewables that we didn't need but are clean.

The treaty is absolute bullshit and he's had the guts to throw it out. What type of agreement simply moves industry from the west where is a binding agreement to the east where there is none, corporatist profiteers, led by the banks.

The whole thing is pseudo science and 98% of scientist buy into it, because they'll lose their funding if they don't, I work in scientific supplies and I tell you now, say the wrong thing you lose your business, fascist state is the correct term.

Good answer. And we should invest in renewables either way. I just think at the moment people are using climate change as a way to make money through carbon offsetting bollocks or through raising taxes

Wtf are you smoking? Move business from west to east? What?

Just because you don't understand the science does not make it pseudo-science.

I'm really interested in this weird big-bad-enviromentalists-are-taking-over-the-world narrative that seems to have come out recently.

I don't know where they are now, or if they are still on display. But in the late 90's there was a display of ice cores from antarctic on show in the Science Museum (London). The exhibit was labelled up and it was pretty clear to see the different annual layers, some of which were darker than others and these were directly associated with know major volcanic events. The startling was the change in the ice colour from pure white to light and then uniform dark grey that started with the industrial revolution. If you do not believe that the activities of man can effect our environment go look at an ice core it will convince you.

I like a club where you set your own targets, make a pledge and report back in 12 months time that you are not only on target but have exceeded all expectations!

No room for dishonesty or manipulation of figures there then?

I am going to try one last time to get you to understand the sort of numbers involved in climate change...

It takes about 120 tree growth years to produce 1 barrel of oil (and acre of land with 100 mature [90/100ft high trees] will produce 25 barrels of oil. That's 4 trees growing for 30 years to produce 1 barrel of oil, or 120 tree years per barrel). You follow?

We use nearly 100 MILLION barrels of oil EVERY DAY! That's 12 THOUSAND MILLION years of tree growth every day. That's the amount of heat we pump into the atmosphere every day! And that's the equivalent of burning more trees than there are on the planet each year from burning oil! Then there is the coal, methane gas and wood we burn! The number are staggering, but you just casually dismiss them.

And this is the last time I address any of your posts on this subject.

Was your grandad a window licker?

you have been argueing for trump in this thread... so i think its a fair question to ask...

do you believe in climate change?"

Lets clarify :

Its not clear what you mean when you pose the question that way , in fact you have asked me before , but also didnt specify what you meant

First time you asked if , and I quote,

" are you just a climate change denier?"

Answer... NO !

Now you ask ;

"do you believe in climate change?"

Answer.... yes !

That should be clear enough for you !

But I will add some scientific context to further clarify my answer !

Climate change is normal on hearth ! its part of the planets natural cycles ! Climate is in constant change oscillating through time ! There is no such thing as a stable climate ! IT has , is , and will continue to change !

We are now in an inter glacial period , with the normal warming that is inherent

to that phase ! there have been 5 major glacial periods !

In fact it was the change to warmer climate that made man´s migration out of Africa and to other continents possible !

http://www.sapiens.org/evolution/early-human-migration/

To sum it up !

Climate change is a scientific fact and thus not a "believe" issue !

However... Its not that simple ! Because the expression has been hijacked by a sect, and a host of financial interests not at all scientific in their methods or pursuits, and thus misused and abused!

This is why its important to know what you mean when posing your question !

So care to clarify ?

yes Will the numbers are staggering ! As is everything about our planet ! But there is nothing more staggering then human notion of self importance ... and stupidity !

Staggering ... is the notion that some pseudo science has that they can predict climate , when they cant even predict weather accurately !

So yes it is staggering that some presume to predict all these catastrophes accurately !

Problem is....they have ! since the seventies !

And all those tipping points , sea rise, deaths, extinctions , have not happened !

In fact... some species thought to have been extinct by science have shown up alive and well ! ( remember the Coelacanth)

Deadlines have come and gone and predictions were shown to be wrong

But dont let that verifiable science get in the way of Belief and pseudo or bad science !

Yes.....but there is a massive difference between influencing and being the main driver or cause of it !

That is what distinguishes the real science from political convenience or believe !

And this is the last time I address any of your posts on this subject.

yes Will the numbers are staggering !

But dont let that verifiable science get in the way of Belief and pseudo or bad science !

and any good scientist will tell you never to confuse "weather" with "climate"......

thats not even climate change denial 101....

thats being a climate change denier and not even knowing the subject you profess to know about 101....

"

Wake up Fabio !

You post suggests you are the one confused !

I replied to both your questions, but asked you to clarify what you mean when you refer to climate change !

You have not only not done that , but instead suggest that I confuse climate with weather !!

It seems you cant read , or you don't understand what you read !

Or you "pretend" or play stupid to make me look bad !

Fact is... it seems its you that has no clue of what you are talking about !

So... would you be so kind as to quote me, and point out where I confuse climate and weather ?

Also.... what do you mean when you refer to Climate Change ?

Waiting clarification.....

Well all this carbon dioxide is certainly good for plant life. Co2 is as essential to plants as Oxygen is to humans. Studies have shown that increased concentrations of Co2 boost photosynthesis levels in plant life.

I gave up all that toe for two reasons.

1 it's a waste of time like I said at the beginning and many times since, the evidence is pointing towards the fact we've already crossed the tipping point many many times over, you yourself pointed out the fact that the IPCC by way of evidence already said in 1989 we've got a ten year window or face the prospect of "irreversible change", no evidence has refuted that fact, they are lying to you with stuff like 350.org, its bullshit for the masses who've never read any science, its 410 now and it's only going one way,all the evidence shows this, all the scientists know this, very few of them actually say it or be honest about it, all your pseudo science clap trap and c02 plant bullshit ain't gonna stop the inevitable and alas I learnt a long long time ago,NO amount of evidence would convince you or others like you of it, you will be sat in your armchair still typing bollocks while the earth around you goes completely tits!.

Everything you say is utter rubbish that's been proven rubbish for decades by science.. you don't even believe half of it yourself! Its a game to you and unfortunately you don't even realise your being used by the same system that got us in the mess were in today..but trust me, your in the same life boat as all the rest of us

2 only a true idiot would carry on arguing about something that's a done deal.

My advise to you is... Nah fuck it, carry on, nobody actually cares either way, hell even these lot that grasp it don't really wanna do anything big to stop it, all your bullshit hasn't convinced them to stop flying or buying cheap shit from China, taking holidays in Thailand hasn't suddenly gone off the radar to them, buying clothes and cars and newer carpets than the already new carpets they had but we're the wrong colour!.

Putting tins in a different tub ain't gonna cure this problem because the problem has always been a predicament and predicaments don't have Solutions, the end was always there it's just nigher than it had to be!...

Tony go and look at the models and predictions, and I don't mean some bullshit conspiracy website, go and look at them for yourself!.

Most of them have under predicted the warming, that's? just factual! They didn't predict 1 degree of warming until 2040, they didn't predict the end of summer sea ice till 2050, that's already come in 2016.

That's the great thing about science it doesn't need my belief or your disbelief, you not believing in it hasn't stopped the sea ice disappearing or the vast warming or the glaciers shrinking it alarming rates yes alarming rates hence why they call people who talk about it alarmists because its alarming ...

Now Tony I'm going, I won't be back, I've done my fair share of environmentalism,I have no guilt, no axe to grind,I don't care what anyone does anymore those days have long gone

That is the problem !

Assuming all that was predicted would be bad !

It wasn't ! That is the little that was predicted and actually came to be !

The planet changes and most species adapt to it ....man included ! But man is the first to actually have the ability to use knowledge and technology, to adapt faster or even take advantage of the changes !

And don't use the old "unprecedented" rate of change argument ! Its BS ! Geological records and even ice core samples have proved that radical changes in climate have occurred before with time frames as little as 30 years

And this was before man roamed the earth!

Some of the glaciers and ice sheets people going on about werent even there a 1000 years ago ..or less !

If all this melting had a profound influence as some say the sea level would have risen a lot ! But ... it hasnt !

Adaptation makes a lot more sense and is economically more viable then mitigation !

Trying to change the planets climate makes as much sense as trying to empty the ocean with a bucket ..... yes sure you will have an "impact" ... but how much and at what cost ?

Venus.Our sister planet.Nuff said."

Correct me if I´m wrong : are you comparing planets that are at different distances from the Sun ?

Venus is about 108.200. 000 Km´s from the sun !

Earth is about a 38% further away , at 149,600, 000 Km´s from the sun !

If not ,what do you mean by that ?

"I dont know why you lot are "debating" with someone who believes the jury is still out on if the world is flat or not

Why are you talking about yourself again ? Do you need the attention?

I am surprised that you think the world is flat .... or not !

I remember on another thread someone mention that CLCC stands for Cognitive Lacking Challenged couple ?

Was that because you fell off your flat world and hit your head , or do you have a square mind? "

No Tony, I believe the scientific community has proven beyond doubt the shape of the planet. Can you say the same?

see Tony, you can't even say it, do you have any idea how ridiculous it makes you look when you can't even tell us the shape of the planet that we live on? If you don't know that then why would we believe you can comprehend something more complicated such as climate change!

OK tony, if the shape of the planet is too hard for you to decide, let's try an easier one for you.

Would you agree that science has definitively concluded that humans need oxygen to survive? Yes or no?

Dont know !

I lost count of how may times they asked that question ....or maybe it was laziness... and a simple copy-paste !

But this playing victim assuming that I know which member of the couple is posting , is another level all together !

Guess now I am clairvoyant too.
